Mediaite’s Top Thanksgiving Movie Moments

What's not to love about Thanksgiving? For one day in the middle of the week (a fact which used to fascinate and confuse me as a child growing up in Canada) an entire country of 300,000 million people stops everything they are doing to sit down, stuff themselves with food and drink, and watch football (I'm told...about the football party anyway). So yes, that part's great. The part about being crammed into a house with various your family members may or may not be great depending, but that's where the tryptophan and liquor come in! Also, our Thanksgiving day marathon of top movie and TV Thanksgiving moments, which you can alternately choose to watch whilst stuck in a plane, train, or automobile or, when you need a break from being asked to explain to family members what exactly it is you write about on the Internet all day long. Fortunately! Some of these movies are available in their entirety on YouTube...meaning someone had their family Thanksgiving cap on. The title sort of says it all, no? Especially today. Good luck! Also, the best thing about this movie, beyond the genius of John Candy, is that it only gets better each time you watch it. And while I haven't actually watched it in years, I remember it sort of perfectly depicting the combination of painful, uncomfortable, and wonderful that is holiday time with family. Actually, the entire episode is posted thanks to the genius of Hulu. More than half my office has not heard of WKRP In Cincinnati, which I think is a shame. But I'm pretty sure you don't have to know the show to enjoy this epic episode or Les Nessman. NEXT>>> Miracle On 34th St. Miracle On 34th St. Technically yes, this is a Christmas holiday movie. But it opens with the Macy's Day parade and a Thanksgiving dinner of sorts, so I decided it qualified. Also, in trying to dig up a proper clip (to no avail) I discovered that there was a second Miracle on 34th St. made in 1955. Who knew? That one did not star Maureen O'Sullivan or Natalie Wood, however, so you'll have to make due with the trailer. I think perhaps I was too blinded by envy over the Upper West Side apartment depicted in the final scene (where, I now realized, everyone is eating Thanksgiving supper) to notice much of anything else. Horrormeister Eli Roth's fake trailer for Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse has become a recent holiday classic (or alt-classic), spoofing on the holiday in ways that you cannot un-see (CHEERLEADERS, BEWARE!). Actually, everyone beware: You're all gonna die, and it's gonna be messy. Pass the cranberry sauce. p.s. I actually stopped watching halfway through because I felt sick. I did love the Rocky Horror-inspired lettering, though.
