Michael Cohen Rips Trump Border Policy in Letter Quitting RNC Post: Kids Aren’t ‘Bargaining Chips’

Michael Cohen has resigned from his position on the Republican National Committee’s Finance Committee amid his ongoing legal troubles and investigations into his business affairs.

ABC News has received a copy of the email that the RNC’s now-former deputy finance chair and former personal attorney to Donald Trump sent to RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

“This important role requires the full time attention and dedication of each member. Given the ongoing Mueller and SDNY investigations, that simply is impossible for me to do.”

Recent indications suggest that Cohen is thinking about cooperating with the federal agents conducting a criminal investigation into his alleged bank fraud and dubious business dealings. These charges stem from his hush money payments to Stormy Daniels, as well as his lobbying work where he appeared to sell access to the president.

Despite the controversy that swirled around Cohen for the last few months, multiple RNC figures previously brushed off the concerns about keeping him in his position. McDaniel defended Cohen in recent months when he was connected to Elliot Broidy‘s sex scandal (which caused the latter’s resignation), and RNC spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany offered a similar defense as well.

And if you were wondering if Cohen had any comment about the big news of the day, then you’re in luck. The attorney also apparently used part of his resignation letter to slam Trump over his border policy

“As the son of a Polish holocaust survivor, the images and sounds of this family separation policy is heart wrenching. While I strongly support measures that will secure our porous borders, children should never be used as bargaining chips.”

Trump says he’s going to sign an executive decree allowing migrant children to stay with their parents.
