More Archival Video! Watch Mitt Romney Proclaim In 2002 ‘My Views Are Progressive’

Newly unearthed video shows Mitt Romney being interviewed by local TV reporters during his 2002 gubernatorial campaign, with the future Massachusetts governor saying “I think people recognize that I am not a partisan Republican. That I’m someone who is moderate, and that my views are progressive.”

The video was dug up by 22-year-old Andrew Kaczynski, a history major at St. John’s University whose hobby is delving through “old political videos, the most memorable of which he uploads to his YouTube channel.” Sometimes he gets lucky. This time, Kaczynski appears to have struck gold.

Watch Romney describe himself as a moderate with “progressive views” below via Andrew Kaczynski:

I’m waiting for that Psycho (Beck) to now confess that the only reason he is choosing Mitt over Obama is because they share the same Church.

Regardless of whether he wins or not, some crude variation of his name will be in their mouths for at least another half-decade.  This despite the fact that private sector job growth has been steadily on the rise (http://www.cps-news.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/bush-vs-obama-jobs-stimulus.jpg), steps are being taken to address the deficits (probably the one of the only areas where bi-partisanship support is achievable), troops are returning to their families, and America is gaining its footing again as the world’s number one superpower (Europe certainly isn’t, and China’s fate is tied to ours because their strength is tied to our consumption.)  Public sector jobs are still down, but that was thanks to an extremely dedicated effort on Republicans’ part to slash jobs in nearly every public sector department, particularly on the state level [see Wisconsin, Ohio and Joe Walsh screaming a local constituent that he didn't care a lick about public sector jobs.]

The extremely raucous neocon fringe (i.e. the Miserable 10%) will continue parroting their AM radio overlords and pushing their candidates over the Conserva-cliff, making them unelectable (think stoneparkIV).  Early in his presidency, Obama gave this wingnut contingent too much respect because they were the most vocal.  He eventually realized that these people were not governing in good faith and would never compromise with him, (think Mitch McConnell saying that his number one goal wasn’t to work for the American people, which is, you know, what we elect our public servants to do, but rather to make sure that Obama was a one-term president.)  By ignoring the miserable 10% and their selective definitions of “Real Americans”, he can focus on the other 90% who aren’t nearly as hostile.

Don’t worry Mitt all these Republicans saying mean things about you, will fall in line when you get the nomination. Republicans are like lemmings, they will follow each other off a cliff because hate-radio and Fox News told them to.

That’s fine as long as you acknowledge catfishjugglling.

One thing that I like about him is that he IS a moderate.  Leftists will not like anyone with an R next to their name so their opinion doesn’t really matter.  They will vote for Obama no matter what.

    They caucused already?

Clearly EDUCATION needs to be a main priority in Iowa. LOL

The only two people he’s choosing over Obama right now are Bachmann and Santorum. He said he could vote for Romney if he had a gun to his head.

I don’t know if you are very young and are new to the nomination process but this is exactally what happens during the process with the party that does not have the sitting president.  Remember our current secretary of state when she was a candidate talking about Obama and the 3:00am phone call?   So if you are young you should educate yourself.  And if you are not young I assume that you are just talking shit.

Progressive: favoring or advocating progress,  change, improvement, or reform…

Last I checked that’s why liberals and conservatives enter politics in the first place.

Considering that this was video was taped in 2002 I think it is safe to assume he wasn’t necessarily talking ideology as a whole proclaiming himself A Progressive. He clearly does favor social changes as his healthcare reforms proved.

It wasn’t until 2007 that liberals decided their label was in need of another re-branding, to reflect a less negative reaction that after 50+ years they revived “Progressive” as a political moniker, distancing themselves from “liberal”.

Speaking as a Democrat I can only say John we hope your prognostication comes true. Rick would truly be the dream candidate we have all been hoping for. http://news.yahoo.com/obama-headed-landslide-094500953.html

Obama is going to win  I agree. But after he is gone he will be looked on as a moderate liberal by the conservative hacks in the future. How is that possible you ask? The same way they now talk of Clinton as a pretty moderate guy. But at the time he was the devil incarnate for them. Any democrat who is currently the president is the worst president ever in their eyes. So the next democrat president whoever or whenever they may be will be their new boggeyman.
