NBC Scraps Bill Cosby’s New Sitcom

NBC, the network that was home to The Cosby Show for eight seasons, has decided not to move forward with a new sitcom from Bill Cosby following mounting rape allegations against the comedian. Multiple sources are reporting the decision following a similar move by Netflix, which had planned to premiere Cosby’s latest stand-up special later this month.
The new sitcom, announced early this year, was slated to possibly debut during the fall of 2015. NBC tapped Mike Sikowitz (Rules of Engagement) and Mike O’Malley (Shameless) to co-write the series, which would once again star Cosby as the patriarch of a large family
Asked about the new project in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, one of Cosby’s most vocal accusers, Barbara Bowman said, “I think it’s irresponsible to put him back in a position of a patriarchal father, in an authoritative and trusted position. I’m very disappointed that he would be endorsed in that [type of role] again.”
