Mayor Bloomberg Insists Marathon Will Go On, Despite Objections

According to an Associated Press report, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has insisted that his city’s famous marathon will go on as scheduled. This announcement comes in spite of vocal objections from some who say that the city should cancel the event and shift resources away from the race and to communities ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.

Bloomberg said that his city is one “where we have to go on” when he stood behind his decision to go forward with the New York City Marathon.

Among the regions hardest hit by this week’s storm is the New York City borough of Staten Island where Congressman and local resident Michael Grimm (R-NY) has been critical of the city’s decision to divert resources like mobile generators from his constituents to the marathon.
