Marc Ambinder: Reaction from everyone seems to be: Huh? RT @alansmurray: Can someone explain? I thought award was for accomplishments, not intentions.

Chris Lehmann: Couldn’t the Nobel Committee achieve the same effect by retroactively giving prize to GWB & then revoking it? #Nobelfollow-unfollow

Jonathan Glick: Obama should refuse the Nobel Prize, saying that it is premature. The best of a number of bad response options.

Muck Rack: Now trending on Muck Rack: Nobel Peace Prize http://bit.ly/G96du

Mark Knoller: Pres. Obama got the news of his Nobel Prize in a phone call from press secretary Robt Gibbs at about 6A – an hour after Prize was announced.

The Note (Rick Klein)
: wouldn’t you love to hear Bill Clinton’s reaction – his true reaction – to the Obama Nobel Peace Prize news?

Mark Knoller: Even WH trying to figure out how to spin the awarding of the Prize to Pres. Obama for the promise of his policies rather than achievements.

The Stalwart (Joe Weisenthal)
: I’m totally flabbergasted.

Mark Knoller: Do we now mark Norway as a “blue state” for awarding Nobel Prize to Pres. Obama?

Mark Knoller: The Nobel Committee risks being discredited for a political decision honoring aspirations for peace rather than a concrete accomplishment.

The Note (Rick Klein)
: Nobel Peace prize goes to “the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations ….” shall have done

Mark Knoller: Initial White House reaction to Nobel Prize for Obama. Spokesman Robert Gibbs e-mails one word: “wow.”

Mark Knoller: The Nobel Committee based its decision on Obama speeches and policy statements, rather than any concrete accomplishments.

Mark Knoller: The prize is sure to be seen as a political statement by the Nobel Committee and an implied swipe at the eight years of George W. Bush.

The Note (Rick Klein)
: President Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize – sorry, but did anyone else see this coming? even a hint of a possibility?

Great roundup. I’m quite surprised George had a *best jokes* blog post….

“Glynnis MacNicol: Obama Nobel Prize translation: Congratulations America on not electing another GWB.”

Why didn’t they just give the Peace Prize to the American Voter? Remember when Time named *you* the Person of the Year? Nobel could have done that – for the people who supported Obama – for electing him, which was a sign of peace or something…

But to award this to Obama, having accomplished nothing, is bad for Obama, bad for the Nobel Organization, bad for the past winners, and bad for those who didn’t win this year.

And as you pointed out, Obama is in the middle of his war in Afghanistan – and at this point, he hasn’t even decided what to do about it – send in more troops, or pull out, which could cause a very un-peaceful outcome.

If he succeeds in *world peace* I would be all for him receiving this award, after the fact, but now…just a joke.

Did they ever give the award to Jesus?

It is good to have proof that Norwegians have a sense of humor, but I still think the Miley Cyrus was robber. And if Obama wins the Publishers Clearinghouse Sweepstakles, then we’ll know for sure that something is fishy somewhere.

Since the time between O’s inauguration and the closing of the Nobel nominations was about 2 weeks, it’s obvious that the Nobel committee regards accomplishment and tenure as unimportant. has adopted the ‘all shall have prizes’ regardlessstance, which would suggest that O be named MVP of both the National and American Leagues for throwing out the first pitch at the all-star game in July..

The Seven Best (Or, Somewhat Memorable) Moments Of The Jay Leno Show

    video

After 95 episodes, the epic failure known as The Jay Leno Show airs its final episode tonight. Of course, Leno himself will be back after the Olympics, comfortably at 11:35pm all over again. Which was pretty much the problem to begin with - the 10pm offering started as a similar product to the Tonight Show, and only became more like the old format as time went on.
