One Year Later: Sarah Palin And Slaughtered Turkeys

palin_turkeyLook how far Sarah Palin‘s come. It was only one year ago that the former Vice Presidential candidate — and then Alaskan Governor — was giving her first post-election interview. Afterwards, nobody was talking about the refreshingly frank and candid commentary. Instead the focus was the images of turkeys getting slaughtered just a few feet away from where Palin was speaking. Cut to one year later, Sarah Palin is a best-selling author, potential 2012 presidential candidate and on top of her media game.

Remember, the accepted media narrative at that time was that Palin didn’t possess the intellectual heft to be a serious candidate for high office. Not surprisingly, the left had a field day with this, perhaps best evidenced by the way it was reported by David Edwards and Stephen C. Webster at Raw Story at the time:

Now Alaska Governor and failed Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has mimed presidential tradition, but her effort at winged mercy was ‘cut’ short. As she staged an impromptu press conference after pardoning one lucky bird, a worker at the Triple D Farm and Hatchery in Wasilla sliced a turkey’s neck, bled it out and twisted its head off behind the governor, directly in the camera’s line of fire.

A reporter asked Palin if she was okay with the backdrop. The Alaskan Governor answered, “no worries.” As the bird’s head was removed, the man looked over his shoulder at the governor and reporters and flashed a toothy grin.

“I was happy to be invited to participate in, in this, and, uh, and, you know, for one, you need a little bit of levity in this job, especially with a, uh, so much that has gone on in the last couple of months that has been so, um, political, ah, obviously, that it’s nice to get out and, and do something to promote a local business and, and to uh, just participate in something that isn’t so, um, heavy-handed politics that, uh, invites criticism,” said the governor in what appeared to be a single sentence.

After this video went viral, Countdown host Keith Olbermann chose a unique method to report the story. Here he is, watching it live for the first time, so his viewers could track his reaction in real time:

And the point of this story is? I am not a fan of Palin’s by any measure, but this story is just ludicrous and an obvious attempt to somehow insult her.

People really need to come to grips with reality. Like the lady or not, she is very popular right now and has a best selling book. All of these seemingly “innocent” reports are just more trashing from the one side in an attempt to minimize.

Both sides do this endlessly, but this rehash of an old story is just dumb. Seriously, Colby – nothing better to do today?

I happen to appreciate this story .Sarah Palin tried to act like a hawk with this background .Tries to be tough. I think she needs help and after this tour maybe she can work on that.

How about something a little more current, like the “greatest scandal in modern science” or “congress will call for hearings” or something a little more current regarding the fraud that is global warming? Why is the media spiking this story. How about a nice story about how FNC is covering it; even CBS has not at least mentioned it. Come on mediaite — you can do it, can’t you???

This story is nonsense and the sign of a lazy “journalist.” Perhaps we can forget all current events and just start revisiting every inconsequential non-policy gaffe every politician ever made.

As I type this, Fox Business is scrutinizing the guest list for a State Dinner hoping for a gotcha, MSNBC is banging the racism drum, FNC is screaming socialism and so on. Not one of them caught any real news today. Not one.

And Mediaite is consumed with this garbage. For shame.

    My oh my.
The fraud that is global warming.
Anyone who doesn’t believe in or understand climate change, must be like the proverbial ostrich with their head in the sand.
I guess that’s slightly better than being one of these ill-fated turkeys.

“This video made me go veggie.”

This comment made me eat a bacon cheeseburger.

It is really amazing that there are so many people trying to denigrate Sarah Palin because she represents Mainstream America. I’m sure she eats Turkey at Thanksgiving, doesn’t drive a Hybrid Auto and wow, she has firearms at her home for protection and sport hunting. I’ll bet she even celebrates that Christian Holiday Christmas (the birth of Christ). She loves and takes care of her special needs child. She really is far out. At least that is what the radical liberal media would have you believe.

  • Nachi

And a wonderful, God-fearing, patriotic Murcuhn. She represents a gathering place for “mainstream” hicks, white-trash, woodchucks, ridge-runners and other assorted super-Christie zealots. Is that so wronnnng??
She forms a regulat Klavern where ere she travels. Ummm.

I guess tomorrow we can talk about climategate. Despite the US mainstream media NOT really covering it, the European, Canadian, and small town newspapers have it covered. It can’t be ignored much longer.

But for today, happy Thanksgiving to Sarah Palin and her family after a very successful book launch.
