Rachel Maddow: I’m A Lesbian Vampire, And Other Internet “Facts”

video

Rachel Maddow heard the same rumors about the cost of President Barack Obama’s upcoming trip to India everyone else did. Unlike Glenn Beck, who decided to focus (mostly) on other aspects of the trip on his program, Maddow focused on the oft-cited “$200 million per day” cost estimate…and why it shouldn’t be so oft-cited at all. Oh, and lesbian vampires factored into the equation, too.

She noted Rep. Michele Bachmann citing the “$200 million per day” figure to Anderson Cooper, and that she said the number was “coming out in the press” – the press reporting on the figure, Maddow quickly noted, included Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and even, on his radio show, Glenn Beck.

But Maddow was especially amused by Fox Business’ Eric Bolling backing up the “$200 million/day” claim by citing “the internet.” Other real things available on the internet, Maddow noted, include unicorn meat, that Muslims are exempt from health care reform, and, best of all, the revelation that Maddow herself is actually a lesbian vampire (really!).

She summed up her overall point by saying that “there is no debunking process anymore”…oh, and included remarks from Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell, who said that rumors such as that the country is deploying 10 percent of the Navy with Obama to India are “absurd” and “comical.” Video of the segment below (“lesbian vampire” portion, which comes either via a troll/comic or absolutely insane person, at 2:18).

I don’t care which channel you prefer. Rachel Maddow’s segment here is spot on. Unless you truly look for the facts then there is no truth.

I’m not a huge fan of Rachel, but I agree – this $200 million quote is really getting out of hand

And in case anyone needed any reaffirmation that Fox Business is a joke, check out this Eric Bolling moron in her clip.

Rachel tore it up. I didn’t like her silly delivery but her facts were devastating against the right-wing smear machine,

Nothing like a lecture on getting the facts right from someone who recently claimed that a Republican member of Congress had “prior notice” of the Oklahoma City bombing.

Yeah, Rachel, you guys at MSNBC never lie, right?

Rachel Maddow, on air in her Meet the Press debut, when Armey denounced protests against President Obama and compared it to MoveOn.org running an ad comparing President Bush to Hitler, Maddow said that never happened. She said MoveOn never ran such an ad. It did, the ad is still on YouTube — LIE

Rachel Maddow said that Fox News and a conservative website (Breitbart) uncovered what they said was an admitted racist (Shirley Sherrod) in the Obama administration and she was forced to resign immediately. In reality, the whole Sherrod incident took place and she resigned from the administration before Fox covered it AT ALL — LIE

Rachel Maddow said on air that “extremist” GOP congressman Steve Stockman (elected in the 1994 “Gingrich revolution) received advance notice of the Oklahoma City bombing and did nothing about it, to try to portray current GOP candidates as extremists. In reality, his office received a fax about the bombing 1 hour AFTER it took place — LIE

Ed Schultz said on air that his 10-2 rally drew about 250,000 people, while Glenn Beck’s 8-28 rally drew 80,000 people — LIE

Ed Schultz on air defended NPR for firing Juan Williams. Schultz called him a “problem employee” which led to the firing. NPR itself said that Williams was a good employee. — LIE

Chris Matthews said on air that the only reason Hillary Clinton was elected to the Senate in New York is that she is Bill Clinton’s wife — LIE

Dylan Ratigan on air has claimed that people show up to the Tea Party rallies yelling about killing black people — LIE

Chris Matthews on air, when discussing the Chilean mine disaster, said that the message coming out of the Tea Party people is every man for himself. Everybody just get out there, make your buck, save it, and screw the government. If they were down in that mine they would have been killing each other after about two days — not a lie, just HORSESHIT

Chris Matthews on air has said of the Tea Party Movement “they’re all white. All of them, every single one of them is white” — LIE

Keith Olbermann on air said that “teabagger” Kenneth Gladney was not attacked outside of the Russ Carnahan town hall meeting in August 2009, when in fact an SEIU member was arrested for assault. And, Gladney was not a “teabagger”, he was a vendor at the event — LIE

Keith Olbermann on air called Michelle Malkin a mashed up bag of meat with lipstick — not a lie, just sexist HORSESHIT

Keith Olbermann on air said that, to get Hillary Clinton to drop out of the race in 2008, someone from the DNC should take her into a room and come out by himself — more sexist HORSESHIT

Keith Olbermann on air took a quote from New Yorker Magazine where it was said that “Alaska is sometimes described as America’s socialist state, because of its collective ownership of resources” and ascribed the quote to Sarah Palin. Palin didn’t say it, the writer of the article about Palin did — LIE

There are plenty more. It’s no wonder no one watches the constant shit that spews from MSNBC. It reached endgame on Tuesday with that nonsensical election coverage that even many liberals derided.

Dear Ms. Madcow……..I do not think you are a lezzy vampire……probably just a little frustrated with the direction of America now…….Do not worry….the Commies still like you….

  • ganymede

Thank you Rachel Maddow. What’s amazing is the inference that the whole Teapublican facade is built on lies. Obama’s a Muslim; Death Panels are real; lowering taxes for the super rich will be good for the economy; corporations should be treated as people and allowed to give unrestricted political contributions; the Iragi war was absolutely necessary; they’re coming to take away your guns; sensible healthcare for all is a bad thing; Obama is a Socialist/Communist/Fascist; Islam is an evil religion; worker’s unions are useless; George Bush’s presidency wasn’t all that bad. It goes on and on and on. Looking back at the rise of fascism in Germany in the 1930′s, what stands out is the power of the Big Lie, as invented by the great evil propagandist, Joseph Goebbels. What’s clear is that the rightwing has sold its soul in order to gain power. The difference between now and Nazi Germany is that it’s not going to work unless the reactionary forces engineer a coup. In a year or two we’re all going to say what a waste that battle was, as we finally get up and start rebuilding our country.

Maddow needs to cover up her Adam’s apple. Rachel dear, just because you are a lesbian, doesn’t mean you have to look like a man especially if you are on TV. Please take note of Ellen and Portia. Beautiful gay women. You, sir are an abomination. And your on air antics with the smirks and funny voices are not cute. They are pretty scary and may turn some lesbians back to men. Do us all a favor and stop with the homophobic stereotype that all lesbians must look like men.

Another one just came to mind, earlier this year Maddow blasted Republicans as hypocritical obstructionists for complaining about wanting tort reform in the health care reform bill when, in her words, tort reform was “already in the bill.” In reality, there was a provision in the health care bill that calls upon individual states to look at new ways to deal with malpractice lawsuits. Loosely worded fluff. That in no way, shape, or form represents tort reform. Except in Rachel’s world. — LIE

So, does anybody out there know how much it cost to have the aircraft to fly everybody over there, the hotel rent, meals, 34 war ships (redeployed to protect the POTUS during time of war), sun screen and beach balls for the kids? $200,000,000.00 per day could be accurate.

Tort reform is a phony non issue. Look up what a “motion for summary judgment” is and then you will understand that you have been had. Phony lawsuits never get to trial. Rachel Maddow made an interesting point about how certain right-wingers say that if they read it , it must be true.
When I first read that Laura Bush was actually Loren, the transvestite partner of George Bush, I thought it was crazy, but I did read it, and gave it some thought. By “Laura’s” appearance, it really is credible. I also noticed that “she” seemed to be kept in the background pretty much. Well, who knows? I’m just saying, I read it, so where was the outrage of any righteous Republicans over this? It looks to me like they went to some lengths to try to cover it up, in fact. You think? I must stress that I read it, and if you read this post, you will see it in print, too, so it must be true.

If a jury gives an excessive award the judge can reduce it or it will be reduced on appeal. You have to be smart enough to get past the lobbying propaganda of the insurance industry. Another example of the dumbing down of America,

In a study published in 2005 in the Journal of the American Medical Association, 93% of physicians surveyed reported practicing defensive medicine, or “altering clinical behavior because of the threat of malpractice liability.” Of physicians surveyed, 43% reported using digital imaging technology in clinically unnecessary circumstances, which includes costly MRIs and CAT scans, as protection against litigation. Forty-two percent of respondents reported that they had taken steps to restrict their practice in the previous 3 years, including eliminating procedures prone to complications, such as trauma surgery, and avoiding patients who had complex medical problems or were perceived as litigious. This practice restriction hits rural areas especially hard, as small towns find themselves without practitioners in high-risk areas such as obstetrics and emergency medicine, or practices without competition as physicians consolidate into single practices to distribute the high costs of malpractice insurance premiums.

According to a 2004 study of medical malpractice costs, “program administration—defense and underwriting costs—accounts for approximately 60 percent of total malpractice costs, and only 50 percent of total malpractice costs are returned to patients. These costs are high even when compared with other tort-based systems, such as automobile litigation or airplane crashes, that determine fault and compensate victims. Moreover, most patients that receive negligent care never receive any compensation. The Harvard Medical Practice Study found that states capping payouts and restricting non-economic damages saw an average decrease of 17.1% in malpractice insurance premiums. Similarly, Klick/Stratman (2005) found that capping economic damages saw a substantial increase in doctors per capita.

A phony non issue? Hardly. And, it was only brought up to point out yet another of hypocritical Rachel’s lies, saying it was in the bill when it wasn’t. I really have no interest in getting into a debate about the health care bill. There is no defense for it. 2700 pages (c’mon, even you cannot come up with a reason that the bill needed to be 2700 pages long), bribes and payoffs within the Dem party to even push it along, then rammed through at the last hour when Scott Brown got elected. A bill the majority of Americans, understandably, oppose.

I’ll give you one thing, it was a bipartisan bill…..there was bipartisan OPPOSITION, as both Dems and Repubs opposed the health care bill.

  • BarneyFranken

Hey Rachel..! YOU ARE A FUCKING LIAR.

I can prove it. Listen closely, because you might learn a thing or two about actual facts and how to find them.

“The Internet” was not the source of the $200 million dollar a day so-called rumor. Nor is it the right wing “mediaverse” whatever the fuck that is. (And didn’t you make fun of Palin for making up the word ‘refutiate’? So you’re a dumb bitch now too then right? Just saying…)

The true source of the so-called rumor was the Indian media, which I suppose in a round about way is also online. But it doesn’t mean its an online source like the “lesbian vampire” guy is a source. Only the most hackneyed of ‘journalists’ would dare make such a false equivalence- but someone who shrieks ‘OMG!!’ over and over to start her segment can’t be expected to be held to an actual journalistic standard right?

In this roughly 10 minute segment she could have taken the time to attribute the true source of the reports. Yet she missed it! I guess she was too busy googling “Rachel Maddow Lesbian” to find what took me like 5 minutes to find.

So without further ado, here is the proof that Rachel Maddow is a LIAR:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1325990/Obamas-200m-day-India-visit-picked-US-taxpayers.html

from a british newspaper, (not an online source, nor part of a vast right wing conspiracy Ms. Maddow) for which they clearly attribute to an Indian MP. So if its from an Indian source, it wasn’t ‘created’ by the right wing media.

How about that original Indian source though? Great! Dated OCT 29th:

    http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report_us-to-spend-200-million-a-day-on-obama-s-mumbai-visit_1461370

Sorry Rachel, but either you suck as a journalist or you are just a bullshit artist. Which is it?

Now how about that warship rumor:

    http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/34-warships-sent-from-us-for-obama-visit-64459

Yup, Indian TV channel is the source.

Just for shits and giggles, how about a creditable link to refute her claim as the source?

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/nov/04/barack-obama-india-visit-cost-claim

From the guardian, a UK newspaper.

“White House officials have dismissed a claim made by an Indian news outlet that Barack Obama’s trip to India will cost $200m a day.”

You’ll notice its not saying dismissed a claim by the “right wing blogs”…

GAME. SET. MATCH. You owe your sheep-like followers an apology Maddow, because you really insult their intelligence when you spoon feed this crap to them. If I were a liberal I’d be pretty pissed at you right now…

While I’ll agree that was pretty stupid, I’m so sick of people putting labels of people so they can get a sympathetic nod. I’m a white barely employed man and when someone insults the working class white dude, I can’t stand up for myself because I’m not a minority or gay and if I do I’m some kind of ‘-ist’. People need to stop using labels as a crutch to throw back in someone’s face.

Oh, dear Lord. I know what a motion for summary judgment is. I’ve written, argued, and/or defended against well more than 1,000 of them in my life. This comment shows a profound ignorance, dangerously profound.

A motion for summary judgement almost always comes at the end of discovery, after the exchange of documents, the taking of numerous depositions, and the exchange of expert reports. Even if you win summary judgment, you will have spent an incredible amount of money on the litigation. And it’s relatively easy to defeat a summary judgment issue. You need only prove a disputed issue of material fact. In other words, you can have an extremely week case, and still win a summary judgment motion. Finally, some courts are extremely hostile to summary judgment motions. In you’re in federal court, they take summary judgment motions seriously and you have a fair shot of wining on the merits. If you’re in state court in West Virginia, you might as well save the paper and start prepping for trial.

Then how much does it cost to send a 34 ship naval armada, scores of planes, 3,000 people (inc. 800 hacks) housed in first-class hotels, dozens of limos, and 500 US security personnel half way around the world and back?

Guess what, doctors should practice defensive medicine. Who benefits patients. There are fewer mistakes. Bad and unjustified lawsuits are thrown out of court my “motions for summary judgment”. The real problems for doctors is the insurance companies which charge them exorbitant rates for medical malpractice insurance. The insurance industry is the problem throughout American healthcare.

Since you admittedly know nothing on the subject, perhaps you shouldn’t post as if you’re an authority. As Finch explained, a summary judgment generally comes into play only after the defendant has been forced to expend large sums of money. If the dispute is covered by insurance (as is the case in medical malpractice claims), the insurance company is the one footing the legal bill. In other words, insurance companies are forced to spend large sums before the court will throw the case out. If they are fortunate enough to be in a jurisdiction where the court is not afraid to grant summary judgment. If not, they have to pay the costs of a full trial. And perhaps appeals after that. It ain’t cheap, and the insurance companies naturally pass these costs along to the consumers in the form of higher premiums.

“Unlike Glenn Beck, who decided to focus (mostly) on other aspects of the trip on his program, ….”

On his radio program and his website, he hammered away at the cost. Then, apparently, someone pointed out to him that the number was bogus, because the website got updated to indicate that it may not be accurate.

This was a great monologue by Maddow. She nailed the false, right wing echo machine that literally creates an alternative world view that is quite disconnected with the real world, the one based upon provable facts.

This is what the struggle for the truth is about, and it is not the last time these false narratives that are bounced around on right wing blogs, websites, talk radio and FoxPAC will be discussed and exposed for what they are: utter bullcrap.

Mr. Beck is a genius at making these false narratives, some that he initiates himself, sound believable.

When I refer to Sarainlalaland, that lalaland is the false, alternative world view that she buys into. Of course, she is not alone. The crazy ideas expressed in comments usually come from this bogus, alternative world view that is bounced around the right wing echo chamber.

Big_F-ing_Deal, they are not “batshit crazy,” that have been convincingly misinformed by liars and/or deluded members of that alternative world view. They only seem “batshit craxy” when viewed from the real world. What sad and dangerous is that those of us operating in the real world of facts seem to be from their perspect also “batshit crazy.” That’s how convinced Beck’s sheeple are of his false narratives.

I know plenty about motions for summary judgement. I have read Finch. I was both won most I have filed. I can only remember losing one or two over a period of sixteen years. Usually a motion for summary judgment is filed early on in the suit, after preliminary discovery has been done and before depositions. The sums of money are not that great at that time.

Tort reform is about limiting the amounts of recovery of injured plaintiff’s. It would not limit the process unless you are proposing some sort of binding arbitration system and I have heard no one propose that. Is that what you want? A system where injured plaintiff’s cannot sue for malpractice in court before a jury of their peers? Or di you just want to limit the awards for malpractice to $250,000 as was one of the tort liability proposals a few years ago. I am really curious about what you think. I would be willing to support some sort of tort reform if we moved to a single payer system. I think the tradeoff their, depending on the details, might be worth it.

In reality, the whole Sherrod incident took place and she resigned from the administration before Fox covered it AT ALL ”

It was on FoxNews.com before she was fired.

As to which side lies more, one can make that determination very easily by examining the organizations that focus on the media, the media watchdogs. The conservative MRC reports bias every day and RARELY find something false being reported by MSM. On the other hand, the liberal Media Matters for America do not hardly mention the BIAS of the right-wing media; it’s a given. They report on the false claims that Maddow elaborated upon in this monologue.

    http://www.sharethisurlaboutglennbeck.com/2010/09/bias-vs-truthiness-analyzing-media.html

Does Maddow get this wrong? Yes, and she’ll correct it when it’s brought to her attn. Does Beck get things wrong? All the time, and he rarely makes corrections. I noticed that his website had a correction yesterday, and that was a rare update on misinformation. Of course, that was after he misinformed his radio audience.

If you want to engage in a well informed and intelligent argument, try posting well informed and intelligent comments rather than calling people “intellectually challenged.” There are about three of you liberals on this board who cannot be debated. You post opinions, your opinions are countered with factual data, and the data is dismissed as conservative hogwash. You’re right and everyone else is wrong, or “dumbed down.” I had a good back and forth with another liberal on health care a few weeks ago. I accurately pointed out that the current plan that was forced through was not the plan that was first on the table, complete with public option. I also pointed out that, pre-2007, Obama said numerous times that single payer health care is his eventual goal, but that it has to be implemented in steps. The “bill” that passed is not his endgame, it is only the beginning. The liberal countered by telling me that Obama’s plan was no different than the plan for universal healthcare that Richard Nixon proposed in 1974, and that Nixon’s plan included a public option. He apparently based this on garbage he read in the New York Times from David “I used to be a conservative, now I’m just bitter” Frum. Well, it was a lie. Nixon’s plan never mentioned single payer and never included a public option. I even included a link to the text of Nixon’s plan, which targeted improving existing systems and focused on private insurance, not the government. The comeback I got was that “the public option wasn’t in his final plan, but it was at the beginning.” More BS, but dammit he was going to be right no matter what. There are a few on this site that will at least concede a point here and there. And then, there are those who concede nothing. Engaging in debate is as pointless as shouting across the ocean, or watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

I agree with you. I want a single payer system. I want a system like the rest of the developed world has. It is a better, more efficient system. I lived under such a system for 2 and 1/2 years. I became very ill while working overseas. I collapsed in a subway station and had to be rushed to a hospital where I experienced a battery of tests including blood work, electrocardiogram, X Rays etc. The cost for the whole treatment, including the ambulance was the equivalent of $64.00. I was paying $60.00 a month as a insurance premium into the nationally run health care system. I had weekly doctors visits for the next 3 months. They cost me five dollars per visits. My medications, 6, costs around $28.00 per month. I paid less for Lipitor their than I do here in America. The medical records there were all computerized. My two doctors input everything directly into their computer as I sat talking with them. I had my doctors cell phone numbers and email mail addresses. I was told I could call them at anytime if necessary. We usually stayed in touch as needed by text message and/or email though we did have a couple of phone calls. These were the two best doctors i have ever had.

Read what MRC looks at. It’s not about false claims, they have their panties in a bunch over bias (4 out of 7 toward MSNBC which is admittedly biased!):

    1. 40 Years of Dem Dominance? George Stephanopoulos Fails to Quiz Carville on his Poor Prediction
James Carville on Thursday appeared on Good Morning America to discuss Tuesday’s Republican landslide, but faced no questions about his erroneous prediction that Democrats would enjoy 40 years of dominance. On May 4, 2009, Carville asserted 40 More Years, his book on the subject. An ABC Graphic hyped, “Democrats 1932-1968, Republicans 1968-2008, Democrats 2008-2048?”

    2. Matthews Accuses Another Republican of Being Under ‘Hypnosis’
Chris Matthews must be really pleased with himself, after accusing Rep. Michele Bachmann of being under hypnosis, in his now famous election night skirmish with the Minnesota Congresswoman, as he attached that description to yet another Republican on Thursday night’s Hardball. After noting that Ben Quayle won his congressional race, Matthews went on to play a clip of one of his ads, after which he blurted: “God. Is he under hypnosis?”

    3. Cantor’s Promise to Hold Oversight Hearings Prompts CBS to Regurgitate Impeachment and Cite ‘Witch-Hunt’ Fears
Contrasting a “contrite” President Obama with a “less conciliatory” Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell, CBS reporter Nancy Cordes on Thursday night conveyed Democratic concern about likely House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s pledge to hold oversight hearings as she recalled “a barrage of damaging probes, one of which ended in impeachment hearings.” Cantor, Cordes asserted, has called “for more investigations into the administration, with quote ‘one major oversight hearing each week.’ That worries Democrats, who remember what happened the last time Republicans controlled the House during a Democratic presidency.” She then challenged Darrell Issa, now the ranking minority member on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform: “Democrats have said that you’re going to start a witch-hunt against the President if Republicans take control.”

    4. CBS’s Smith: How Can Government ‘Unleash the Economy And Not Spend Any Money’?
On Thursday’s CBS Early Show, co-host Harry Smith saw Republican goals to limit government spending as antithetical to improving the economy: “How do you unleash the economy and not spend any money, oh, by the way, because that’s the other mandate, is don’t increase the deficit and don’t – don’t – ‘I don’t want one more cent of tax on me.’” Smith put the question to Time magazine Washington deputy bureau chief Michael Crowley, who was equally skeptical: “I think it may be impossible, frankly. What Democrats would like to do is they would say you actually have to spend more money, have the government put money into the economy to get it moving again.”

    5. MSNBC’s Cenk Uygur Claims George W. Bush Confessed to ‘War Crimes’ in New Memoir
In an attempt to re-litigate the past, MSNBC contributor Cenk Uygur indicted former President George W. Bush for war crimes. Bellowing today from his regular perch on late afternon Dylan Ratigan Show, Uygur mischaracterized the 43rd President’s position on the waterboarding of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed as “go ahead and torture him basically” before demanding that Bush be prosecuted for allegedly violating Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions. “Now it seems to me we have a confession here of a war crime and a clear violation of international and United States law,” proclaimed Uygur. “President George W. Bush should go to jail for at least 10 years.”

    6. Olbermann Frets Obama Will Cave to McConnell ‘Instead of Kicking Him in the Ass’
On Thursday’s Countdown show on MSNBC, as he plugged a segment on Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s appeal to President Obama to cooperate with the GOP, host Keith Olbermann suggested that Obama should “kick” the “ass” of McConnell rather than surrender to the Republican Senator’s demands. Referring to McConnell during a plug, Olbermann complained: “Once again, he honestly explains what compromise means: agreeing with him. And instead of kicking him in the ass, the President agrees to sit down and chat.”

    7. Lawrence O’Donnell Absurdly Claims GOP Failure To Raise Debt Ceiling Would Crash the Country, Possible Worldwide Depression
Lawrence “Crazy Larry” O’Donnell was back to his former self during MSNBC’s Election Night coverage Tuesday. During the 9 p.m. EDT hour the MSNBC anchor claimed that if Rand Paul holds to his “principles” and filibusters an attempt to raise the debt ceiling, it would destroy the United States’ credit rating and possibly spark a worldwide depression. O’Donnell also pressed House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) on the matter.

Regarding # 7. Let’s hope to hell that O’Donnell’s claim is not tested. Defaulting on our credit would not help the world economy or the United States.

You have no concerns over the aforementioned issues? I sure do.

As I said if you has read what I said you would see that I support tort reforms in the context of a single payer health care system, like the Veteran Administration runs, and like every other advanced country has. I did not live in work in Canada as you incorrectly guessed. I worked in the Republic of Korea. I have a son who is a practicing surgeon. We have discussed this issue for years. The problems with American health care are structural. The insurance companies are the ones who drive up the costs, not the innocent victims of malpractice. We need to gradually phase out the middlemen insurance companies by instituting a single payer system. America is way behing the curve on this one. Canada is not the only model out there. Look to Asia, not Canada or Europe. That is where our economic competitors are.

More to the point, MRC rarely finds deceit in the MSM whereas Fox, and especially Beck, has false claims very often. That is the point of Maddow’s monologue: the right wing mediasphere creates its own reality and no one can question it or debunk it.

Once their brains have been programmed to believe the nonsense that comes from FoxPAC, they’re “lost.” Try to explain to a supporter of Beck that he’s a pathological liar, and they think that you’re lying or crazy. I’m not questioning that you paid $64, my question is that you believe that’s what it cost. What are the real costs? The ambulance, office visits, x-ray, MRI, labs(if done). That might have been your cost but not what the actual cost is. So where does the rest of the money come from? You said you paid $60 into a national insurance program, seems quite cheap. If you look at real costs, it just doesn’t add up, somebody is footing the bill. Whether it’s the government, which means you, or the individual, the costs are still there. An MRI still costs $1000 no matter who pays for it. Now if you want the government to tell Doctors/Hospitals/drug companies what they can make, that’s a different arguement. And trust me hospitals are there to make money, I wouldn’t put them in charge. What does a Doctor make in Korea?

Ah, I understand. what your point is. I agree the actual value of the services had to be higher. Everyone in the country is required to be part of the healthcare program so the costs are spread among nearly 50 million people. This allows the government to keep the costs so low. This is common all over Asia. I know for a fact that Malaysia and Thailand have similar systems though I would not compare the quality of Malaysia’s system with Korea or even the United States. I do not know what they earn. As I said I am sure it is less than here.

Any responsible Elected official or pundit would make some effort at confirming before they start repeating it as if it’s true. That’s the glaring point here that you seem willing to ignore in your desire to paint Rachel as a liar rather criticize the assholes that repeated this junk. That’s the larger point of her segment. The complete disregard of the truth in far to many cases.

Secondly, This is MEDIAITE. This is a clip of Rachel Maddow going out of her way to say conservatives made up this story. I proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that this story didnt originate “on the internet” or in conservative circles. Therefore she knowingly misled you. You know…LIED.

I watched the clip again, and although she doesn’t say exactly where it started, she very clearly says that it came from the internet because that’s what the Fox personality says. She also plays the clip of him saying “we didn’t make this up. It’s on the internet” So I think your point is false. If there’s a spot where she specifically said the right wing media made it up you’ll have to be specific because I didn’t hear it. I think you’re mistaken.
If I read an article on the internet , it doesn’t matter if it’s on the NYT or some other paper’s web site. That’s still the internet. It doesn’t make her a liar just because she didn’t phrase it exactly the way you think she should have. Bachman especially, and the others have a responsibility to make some effort to verify before they repeat outlandish claims as if they are true. The point is, they don’t fucking care if it’s true or not as long as it serves their agenda. It wasn’t an honest mistake. It was a repeat of an accepted practice that should be rejected.

    BarneyFranken said:
That was the point of my comment. Rachel Maddow knowingly LIED to make her political point.

Now I’ll be happy to have the debate as to whether we should look at the source of this story as creditable or not, but Rachel lied, there is no other way around it…well hold on, I take that back. She either lied or is terrible at what she does. But as a Rhodes scholar shes too smart to be that stupid. So shes a LIAR.

So is that clear enough for you? What part of what I’m saying are you incapabale of understanding?

Oh I understood it. My point is you’re wrong. They said they got it off the internet and her point was that is very obviously not a valid reason for accepting an outrageous claim as the truth. The fact that it’s a repeated pattern indicates, it doesn’t matter if it’s fair or true, as long as it’s provides the negative spin they want.
I don’t believe Rachel ever specifically claimed they made it up. Does that make you mistaken, or a liar?

Review what happened Tuesday night. The vote was as much about rejecting socialism as anything else. When Obama said we need to spread the wealth, he sealed the Demosocialist fate.

Huh! Socialism is Marxism. You are totally wrong. You really need to learn a little about political theories and forms of government. Marxist’s theory of history and socialism was one among many forms of socialism. You think you can lecture be about bettering myself or about this country. I’m sorry I’m such a dofus. Which flavor do you prefer and why? Market, economic, democratic, ethnocentric, religious, nazism or one of the scores of others. I actually have an education, although it’s from ancient times. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps, welfare, the new health care bill and untold numbers of entitlements individually don’t make us socialist, but when combined it’s a frightening leap in that direction. I have no problem with helping others in need. I do it on a regular basis. We need food stamps and welfare for people who have fallen on hard times but we need to get people off the programs as soon as possible. Don’t tell me those programs aren’t abused. I’ve been paying into SS, Medicare and Medicaid for a lifetime. No ones giving me anything I haven’t paid for. The problem is that it doesn’t pull people up from the bottom, it pulls the top down to the bottom. When Obama got his health care bill passed against the wishes of the majority and declared we need to spread the wealth, he lost support except for the staunchest liberals. Maybe in 50 years when all the baby boomers are gone you can turn this place into something else. For now, we want it back the way it was and that’s what happened Tuesday night. If you don’t think Obama wants to take us to some form of socialism, you haven’t been paying attention.

This is going to be too easy. and I quote Rachel Maddow: Begin 02:07

MADDOW: Go to the Internet. I‘m not making this up. This stuff is on the Internets. It‘s true on the Internet.

You want to know what else is true on the Internet? Canned Unicorn meat, with sparkles.

You want to know what else is true on the Internet?

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Zoom in a little bit closer. What does that look like to you? Those are the bite of a vampire. Rachel Maddow is a vampire. We are letting a lesbian vampire comment on America.

    (END VIDEO CLIP)

    MADDOW: I love that guy.”

UMM. Yeah. Pretty clear there. Shes making the equivalent between the Indian media report and the vampire guy. Why? Because they are both online, therefore lacking any creditability. But the story didn’t originate from an online source, so she giving what’s called a FALSE EQUIVALENCY.

But you don’t seem to agree. Answer me this: what would you call what she’s doing then?

And if shes not comparing the two, then how is the vampire guy relevant to this story otherwise?

DAMN you’re stuck aren’t you? LOVE it.

So you just either don’t want to see the reality of what she’s doing, or don’t have the ability to see it. Either way it doesn’t reflect well on you. Moving on….

This is fun. So you didn’t hear it? OK Let me turn up your hearing aid for you. And I quote:

MADDOW: In the alternate self-contained right wing media universe, this whole “we‘re spending $200 million a day to send Barack Obama to India” thing is true because they‘ve confirmed it for each other. They looked it up on the Internet and it‘s totally there. Their friend said it, right along side the unicorn meat.

But the debunking process is gone now. No non-right wing information is allowed to be used to debunk right wing information. So, if conservatives self-confirm something as fact in their close circuit media world, it‘s fact to them. We should have known we had lost the capacity to debunk when this happened.”

So how did you miss that? Are you really trying to tell us you don’t have the ability to understand what shes is saying here? You couldn’t possibly be that dumb could you? Not possible- no one is that stupid.

Here’s a question for you: So do you think Ms. Maddow knows the true source of the story, yes or no?

Another question: If she does know the true source, then why did she omit this fact from her story?

Her omitting the true source and her subsequent claim that this story is a right wing fabrication is important since the premise of her whole segment is that the right wing media makes things up all the time. Here is the list of what she proceeds to bring up in this very segment:

death panels, free muslim health care, internment camps, sharia law in the us, mexican drug gangs breaching the US border, Eric Holder being anti-gun, and of course, birthers.

I propose to you that since the story didn’t originate from the right wing, that would undermine the rest of her premise. Therefore, she omitted it on purpose. In other words mislead…whats another word for mislead? Oh yeah, LIE.

You don’t agree that she lied though, so what else could you possibly think is the reason for her glaring omission?

You must think she’s stupid and/or bad at her job then? That’s quite an interesting take you have, but I think I’ll stick with her just being a LIAR. For now.

    You’ve been schooled. Class dismissed.

LOL- you know you are right when someone busts out the definition of a lie as having to be intentional in order to defend someone.

Unfortunately, an omission of fact is also a LIE when its critical to the narrative you are trying to tell.

She omitted the origin of the story, then stated in no uncertain terms that it was a right wing fabrication. Read my above post for the transcript.

If you don’t think she intentionally set out to mislead (AKA LIED) with her story then she’s just a truly horrific journalist. Which is it?

Armwood is a lawyer; that’s what they do. I had a law student question whether Beck intended to lie during his 8-28 speech on the Wash mall. I would argue that the intention was there, but the anonymous law prick kept trying to cast doubts (as if Beck were normally honest).

Maddow is pointing to how lies begin and get amplified on the right. We do know where the fake story began, some Indian site. What you’re arguing is that the source may not have been on the right. You don’t know why that Indian “news” site got it wrong, but it’s moot: the right picked this lie up and ran with it. Beck was still claiming “up to $2 billion” on his show Thursday.

I understand what a false equivalency is but it appears you may not because that isn’t one. She’s clearly and correctly demonstrating that citing the internet as if that alone makes the source credible is pretty foolish. That’s what the Fox rep said in the clip immediately preceding your quote. I didn’t hear any of the Fox personalities mention a specific source because they didn’t care if it was credible or not. While you’re calling Rachel a liar, which you have failed by the way, you’re ignoring the larger point. Although triggered by this bit of foolishness and dishonesty from them her story is actually about the pattern of this type of behavior.

    BarneyFranken said:

She’s correctly pointing out that simply saying “we didn’t make this up it’s on the internet” is a long long way from being credible and responsible on a” fair and balanced” news channel. Those are their words not hers.
I’d agree that some sources on the internet are more credible than others but they are the ones that decided not to exercise any type of integrity and make an effort to validate the facts. That’s a responsibility they often ignore when the goal is to just spread a negative.
Rachel isn’t claiming some guy on youtube is the equivalent of anything or that The New York Times is the same as the World Weekly News. She’s pointing out that it’s a journalistic responsibility to make some effort to verify sources before repeating anything you read off the internet. One which they often ignore

She said the story originated and was made up by conservatives…..

You’ve completely failed to prove that’s true, in fact you’ve shown that’s not what she said. She’s saying, and demonstrates ,that their goal is to create an impression of truth about something simply by repeating it over and over. So I ask again, are you mistaken, or a liar?
What we seem to have lost sight of in the age of opinion news over factual news is that even pundits like Beck Hannity, ODonnell or Maddow, should have some responsibility to report and offer opinions based on fact rather than rumors and hearsay. Fox regularly ignores that. That goes beyond just being partisan in looking at the facts. It’s being purposely dishonest in manipulating and misrepresenting the facts. That’s something the

Another question: If she does know the true source, then why did she omit this fact from her story?

Maybe the far more relevant question should be why didn’t the people reporting this as fact cite their source and make any effort to verify, That’s their responsibility isn’t it. We don’t see the whole clips so maybe someone did but we see Bachman saying media and the Fox business guy saying “the internet” I repeat, it’s their responsibility to make some attempt to verify something they read on the internet. An Indian or UK media source doesn’t make it automatically credible, especially when the bullshit they were repeating was so far fetched and beyond the realm of believability.
If they omitted the source and paid no attention to whether the details were credible or not before they began repeating them, why would you expect or demand that Rachel do it? Moreover, her larger story and point was not about this one instance but about a repeating pattern of dishonesty.

    BarneyFranken said:

Once again you repeat what is obviously false. She never claimed it was a right wing fabrication in it’s entirety. She’s claiming that they read it on the internet {the very words they used on air} and concluding correctly that they never bothered to verify any facts regardless of how outrageous they were. She relates their repeating of unverified facts to their habit of doing so and provides several examples. Now, since your reason for calling her a liar, which is the basis for your argument has be clearly shown to be false it would be decent of you to simply admit it. I don’t expect that to happen, but I do trust people with basic reading comprehension and reasoning skills to see you’re wrong.
