Rapper Killer Mike Erupts over Ferguson: ‘Riots Are the Language of the Unheard’

Rapper Killer Mike and his collaborator El-P took a moment before a concert to address the grand jury report that exonerated Officer Darren Wilson of Michael Brown‘s death, which sparked protests and riots nationwide. “You motherfuckers got me today,” Killer Mike declared. “I knew it was coming. I have a 20 year old son, I have a 12 year old son and I’m so afraid for them.”

The two rappers, in St. Louis to promote their new mixtape Run The Jewels, called for racial unity. “We know you don’t value my skin and we know you do value his,” Killer Mike said, alluding to El-P’s race. “But you know what we’re friends and nothing is gonna devalue that.”

“I would like to give all thoughts and prayers to the people who out there peacefully protesting,” he added, then paraphrased Dr. Martin Luther King: “I also give thoughts and prayers for the people who cannot hold their anger in, because riots are only the language of the unheard.”
