Rep. Pat Kennedy Slams Media For Covering Eric Massa Over Afghan War

During a debate over the Afghan War in the U.S. House of Representatives, Pat Kennedy (D – R.I.) pilloried the national press corps for wasting time with stories of little consequence. Kennedy screamed, “There’s one, two press people in this gallery…we’re talking about Eric Massa 24/7 on the TV. We’re talking about war and peace. $3 billion; one thousand lives and no press! No press!” Rarely does one see such passion on the House floor, and now you can via the magic of Internet video!

Why does he expect? Massa is titillating. Why would cable “news” ever cover real “news” when salacious stories gather so much more interest and change America?

Thank god this stupid, bloviating drunk isn’t running again. Pat Kennedy: “a boy who owes everything to a name.”

I do love seeing Libs going apoplectic. This was supposed to be their ‘raining candy’ period, and it’s gone totally haywire on them. The angrier and more unhinged Libs get (politicians or media hacks) the more I like it. Proof that nothing is going their way. And isn’t it curious how Lib politicians seen so hell-bent on the ‘perfectness’ of their hair: This clown, Kerry, Clinton, Edwards (et al).

Hey TRRK, Don’t single out just cable news, Your beloved NBC has been all abuzz with the “snorkeler” too. He (patches) is talking about the “media” not just one channel you happen to dislike.

Hey TRRK, would this be an opportune time to bring up Patches ambien/booze fueled late night driving skills while going to a vote in congress at 3:00 a.m.?? Since you feel it necessary to bring up oxycontin every time the name “Rush Limbaugh” is mentioned, I figured this would be fair as well. I’ll leave his lecherous, murdering, lying bastard of a father out of it (oops, just like you I guess I slipped it in) ….

    sorry…

Wow, that was pretty harsh criticism of the press. I, however, can’t deny that the press fails to do an adequate job in the coverage of our men and women in harms way. They all too often only cover the politics of the war instead of bringing attention to our soldiers who are sent overseas. The press also fails to do independent journalism outside of being embedded with the troops. I am aware that there are some very great journalists in field over there, but its rare that we actually ever see field reports on the tv. What is more likely to happen is the journalist will come back and write a book detailing their experiences, which is a shame.

    Pat,

The real reason the press isn’t covering the war to your satisfaction is that the Democrats are in power. It’s now President Obama’s war(s). Unfortunately, that means no more negative stories about quagmires, western crusades, or American imperialism.

    Miss Bush yet?

What an embarrassment. MSNBC and the Daily Kos take great pains to say that any disagreement with Obama has racial overtones, then they disagree with him about sending in more troops. Oops.

  • MichelleF

Azarkhan, your analysis is spot on. The media’s motto is protect Obama at all costs. Or as Chris Matthews said, “it’s my job to make sure obama succeeds”.

Hey Pat, just to let you in on a detail with the media — they do not have to actually be in the chambers to see and report on the activities therein. C-SPAN sound at all familiar? Those fancy inter-tubes the kids are talking about are also helpful in that regard.
Of course who can blame the media for not showing up — they have gotten used to you guys conducting most of your business behind closed doors.
