Report: Chris Christie ‘Seriously Considering’ 2012 Run

Here we go! Despite repeatedly telling supporters, donors and reporters that he has no desire to run for president of the United States, new reports indicate that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie may be changing his mind. NJ.com is reporting this evening that, “according to a source close to the governor” tonight, Christie is “seriously rethinking his months of denials and may launch a campaign for the White House after all.” And, according to an adviser to the Governor, his wife Mary Pat no longer objects to her husband pursuing a presidential run — following a phone call from none other than former First Lady Barbara Bush.

Christie has raised eyebrows (and hopes) with his recent criticism of Barack Obama‘s administration, even telling those gathered at a campaign rally for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal today that “if you’re looking for leadership in America, you’re not going to find it in the Oval Office.” Then again, he’s also asked “Why the Hell would I leave Jersey?

If he does intend to run, the Governor has a short amount of time to get everything in order: Oct. 31 is the deadline for filing to enter the Florida primary.

I’d like to see him run  (for office, I mean) if only to see how Jon Stewart explains why he mocked network correspondents for saying he might run…after the Gov repeatedly said he wouldn’t.

Hint:  Christie: “By popular demand, I’ve changed my mind”

  • ganymede

This should be interesting. Christie is not a rightwing nut as are most of the current candidates with the exception of Romney and Huntsman. New Jersey is a progressive state where the majority of people live in the real world. They believe in science, respect and equal rights for gays, abortion rights and common sense and Christie espouses most, if not all of these values. He will probably alienate a significant number of fundamentalists and Tea Party types. I know an Assistant US Attorney General who worked under him in Newark when he was the US Attorney General in New Jersey. This person said he was basically an effective but bullying fellow and certainly not a rightwinger, but a liberal Republican. I didn’t think he would throw in his hat, and if he does it might not work out as the Republican leaders think.

  • insideguy

Regardless of what the hell happens this has got to be the strangest primaries in history. Maybe its our hyper active media now a days but holy moly. Watching how this GOP primary race is shaping up its going to be an interesting year lol.

  • insideguy

Oh also I spoke about this the other day. Say Christie gets in as president. Who was the last big world leader that was fat? Only one I could think of was Kohl from germany but I don’t even he had the weight Christie has.

Many might think it would be hard to carry on the responsibilties of being president when it is hard for you to get out of chairs… not so, Franklin Roosevelt also had a hard time getting out of chairs, granted his legs didn’t work but it just goes to show that you that even a president with significant challenges can overcome.

  • Anonymous

I do not trust people that say ,I am not going to ,I might ,I do not think I will , I just might do it anyway , Christie is just like  Palin only in a fat suite instead  of a wetsuit . if your going to bat get up and hit the ball or get out of the way. in this case , Christie go home and eat 5 more pork-chops it is good for your heart.

Not disputing conservatives invented intolerance and their artfulness in being devoid of compassion

Problem is the holier than thou attitude of liberals professing to be the purveyors of tolerance and compassion and lightening-rod quick to point to the other side’s lack of both when they are in no position to think they’re any better

  • Anonymous

He’s brilliant, principled and articulate.. but seriously any verdict on how NJ is doing since he took office compared to past years?

  • Glutton

I can’t sleep.  I’m scared Christie will eat me.  Good thing he can’t fit in my closet or under my bed, but he might crash through the roof.

  • Glutton

Imagine how many “$16 muffins” it would take to satisfy Christie in one meeting.

  • Glutton

Christie’s new policy is that he will have to try all the food before it gets passed by the FDA.

  • Glutton

Jester is mad because we keep coming up with fat jokes and all he could come up with is “drink”.

  • Glutton

I don’t think any buffet could meet the “all you could eat” criteria for Christie. Country will go broke serving Christie all those $16 muffins O’Reilly was talking about.

  • Glutton

  • Glutton

I hope he runs so he loses some weight.

  • Glutton

Why should I sympathize with fat people when there are people in this world that are STARVING to death?

  • Glutton

For some reason, I doubt if Chris Christie does a lot of running.  Most exercise this guy gets is lifting 1/3 pound angus burgers 100 times a day.

  • Glutton

Yes, when Christie isn’t fat anymore.

  • Glutton

Hostess stocks will skyrocket if Christie becomes the president.

Who needs to build a wall?  Just put Chris Christie at the border.

  • Texan

    Glackin, that’s just weak.

It is much more expensive to eat healthy and maintain an ideal weight than to eat unhealthy and mount pounds. Trust me I know whereof I speak, & have the spending bills of both lifestyles to prove it

& those who can afford a healthy diet and lifestyle but aren’t are psychologically worthy of your sympathy, if you’re inclined to dispense any. That & not to mention those who physiologically just cannot lose weight

But want to continue to crack fat jokes, it’s a free country just don’t be bitching about the other side’s so called lack of compassion

  • Texan

    I hear he’s a good shot. ;)

  • Anonymous

Christie is nothing until he is officially in the race and the whole country gets a look at him…that was NOT about his physical appearance…I am talking about his political stances and what he has done in NJ so far…everyone loves everyone until they get in the race…we’ll see

  • Anonymous

Gotta’ love Star Wars references…thanks…you made me smile..

  • Anonymous

He is fully entitled to change his mind; however, he will have to explain his most recent comments about him not feeling he is ready or that he doesn’t feel he is called…he can’t just say how bad this present president is…that is NOT a good enough reason for him to run

  • Anonymous

I am fairly agnostic about whether Christie runs…BUT, if ever there was a time when the VP candidate would be an important factor, it would be if Christie runs…we have ALL seen what being president does to someone…the years add decades to someone…he may not make it through his term…please don’t think I am being snarky or mean…I am stating the obvious and we, the people need to seriously consider that fact…

  • Anonymous

Those things take time and, just like this country banked on a very green Senator with NO executive experience, we really don’t know yet how NJ will do under his policies

  • Texan

    Obama’s jobs bill can’t get through Democrat-controlled senate…

I live in NJ and am a Tea Partyer, and I think Christie is great. All of the Tea Party people I know  (and many conservatives in general) couldn’t care less about social / wedge issues right now.

  • Anonymous

I understand your frustration….BUT, really…he is only human and it would be pretty hard for anyone getting all the attention and urgings that he is getting to ignore…just sayin’

  • Anonymous

Oh, sorry, but that was a good one!

  • Anonymous

We, liberals have very little choice but to be intolerant when the righties keep wanting to cut Medicare and Medicaid, yet we see a political figure who is obviously morbidly obese and making the rest of us pay for his health issues due to his weight…doesn’t matter whether he has private insurance…the NJ taxpayers are paying for it and the rest of those on his plan are also paying for it…just sayin’…but, I kinda hope he runs too…I have a feeling, he will be seen around the country the same way some others are seen…too whatever for them to vote for

  • Anonymous

True, but he didn’t have to traverse the length and breadth of the US…takes it out of ‘ya

  • Anonymous

The one thing that NEVER changes with Democrats is that they NEVER fall in line to get things done…it’s the good and bad about them…they are a big tent group, but that means that there are a million different opinions…frustrating, but then, look at the fractured Republicans…Tea Party vs Regular Republicans

Subject: [mediaite] Re: Report: Chris Christie ‘Seriously Considering’ 2012 Run

I don’t think it’s too late for him to run. In fact, the argument can be made that Perry got in too soon. If he had waited, then his initial surge might have lasted into the the first primarys and carried on from there. Right now it appears as if he has already peaked and is loosing ground to Romney and Cain. Personally, I’m glad to see this.

  • Texan

    The DNC’s GOP dream ticket … CHRISTIE-LIMBAUGH

Yes, there would be fat jokes from some of the people that oppose them politically. The jokes would come primarily from the “left”, but not exclusively. It’s the same principle that applies to “fat jokes” about Michael Moore and Michelle Obama (who is not actually obese, IMHO). The fat jokes about Moore and the First Lady come primarily from the “right”, but not exclusively.

Here’s an interesting dilemma for Christie’s running for POTUS, and for choosing Limbaugh as his running mate. First, Limbaugh’s 2009 “It’s not a ruse!” diet ruse, would get vetted by the media. Second, Limbaugh is on record, in 2007, saying, and this was by inference, that Chris Chistie was too “Big” to be elected President.

From the Rush Limbaugh Show, December 19, 2007, in a transcript segment titled “The Era of Big Presidents is Over”MediaMatters is searching for this audio, as you read this…

Look, this is my point. Appearance in the visual arts — and politics is a visual art because it’s on television — matters. It just does. Now, it’s a little less important the smaller the election. In a state election, it’s not that big a deal. In a local election, it’s even less big a deal. Nationally, though? This kind of stuff, when you’re talking about presidents, it matters. I can’t remember the names off the top of my head, but if you go back prior to the advent of television, we had some tubs as president. We had some huge guys, fat guys, Chester Alan Arthur. (interruption) Warren Harding. They were pigs by today’s standards. But back then, it was a sign of success. Overweight men, titans, it was a sign of prominence, a sign of power, a sign of great wealth and success. Today, it doesn’t say that at all as an image. It says something else: no discipline, doesn’t care, slob, all these things.

No matter how well dressed you are; no matter how neatly coiffed you are, if you’re fat, you’re still a pig –

    - Rush Limbaugh

Can you imagine the DNC campaign ads, that will be forthcoming if Christie runs, that use that audio clip, from the Rush Limbaugh Show, combined with footage of Chris Christie greeting President Obama at the Newark Liberty International Airport in Newark, N.J. …

You mean compassion is a selective feeling.. like a switch that you turn on and off? Sounds like the selective-racism the left practices, they’re bigots and intolerant on demand. The left is just as an odd bunch as the right.

By the way, I’d take Christie even if he has health issues (which you mistakenly assumed) but works hard even if he does not skip a meal over Obama who is mentally and principally bankrupt.. and does not skip a vacation, though he seems in perfect health

I think I just wrote a campaign ad for Christie right there.. “I don’t skip a meal but work and aim for results, Obama skips results but works and aims for vacations”

  • Anonymous

I say “skips results” based on his countless “present” votes in the senate

First of all, DUH…of course the left is as odd as the right…however, as far as the health issue is concerned, I am not assuming, he does have asthma and has had problems because of it…NOW, as far as vacations are concerned, sorry, but I can NOT agree with you…Bush took more, but I don’t care…we, in the US SHOULD take more time off…we need time off to recharge..I have NO problem with anyone who takes some down time…….time will tell about the future

The guy is pro-choice, pro-global warming, pro-gun control, and thinks those promoting the Sharia law nonsense are “crazies.”  In what way could he possibly qualify as a “true conservative” in today’s GOP?

  • Anonymous

    I love it.

So how long do we give conservatives to figure out that their latest savior is pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-global warming, and thinks that those promoting the Sharia law hysteria are “crazies”?!

  • Anonymous

To be entirely fair, this is something that he exercises some degree of control over.  I understand that living a healthy lifestyle can be expensive (it can also be inexpensive, depending on how you go about it), but the man certainly has the resources to do so.

That being said, his weight doesn’t really bother me in the slightest, and I don’t find it to be any of my business.

  • Anonymous

I think that the “conservatives” know it, but that they also think 1) that they can get him to change his position on those issues, and 2) that they can talk him into going on the Rush Limbaugh “It’s not a ruse!” crash diet.

Love your name and avatar, by the way. A big fan of the Father of the Amercan Revolution, I take it?

I was thinking that you were probably a fan of Thomas Paine’s The Age of Reason. If you haven’t read it, you should. It’s a work that I’ve seen many Pastafarians, like yourself, cite as a reference.

  • Anonymous

I did not know this – I will definitely check it out.

I am a huge fan of history, but for whatever reason, my interests tend to lean toward antiquity and the Reformation.  Obviously, however, I should broaden my horizons!

  • Bob Uda

Being sucked in by all of that adulation and deciding to run now would be Christie’s biggest mistake in his political career.  If he jumps into the race be prepared for him being slaughtered should he jump to the top of the heap.  The guy is about as prepared as Obama was when he won the nomination.  Huge mistake.

  • Djbynum02

He’s too fat to be President. The Republicans would have to extend the debt limit for upgrading the WhiteHouse. Sturdier floors, bigger showers and toilets, more taxpayer money for food.

  • http://twitter.com/Darr247 Darr Darr

Me too… I’d like to see him run 100 yards without having a heart attack.

In fact, so would NJ’s senior Senator (Lautenberg?), whom Christie called “old” the other day… at age 87, he said he would gladly ignore being called old if the Governor would accept his challenge to a foot race.
