Rick Perry’s Wife: My Husband Is ‘Being Brutalized’ By Opponents ‘Because Of His Faith’

video

Rick Perry‘s wife Anita Perry addressed supporters at North Greenville University yesterday and slammed the treatment of her husband by the press and the GOP. “We are being brutalized by our opponents in our own party,” Perry lamented. “So much of that is, I think they look at him because of his faith.”

“After Rick had won being elected for the governorship for the third time in Texas, there was a nagging, a pulling at my heart for him to run for president,” Perry said. “You know what we have no leadership in Washington. We have nobody to guide our country. (…) God was already speaking to me, but he didn’t want to hear it… He felt like he needed to see the burning bush. I said, ‘Look, let me tell you something. You may not see that burning bush but there are people who see that burning bush for you.”

“So he truly felt like he was called to do this,” Perry explained. “We still feel called to do this. We are being brutalized by our opponents in our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him because of his faith.”

Perry addressed his wife’s comments this morning on Good Morning America in an interview with George Stephanonopoulos. “I’ll tell you for sure that family members generally take these campaigns harder than anyone else, but I’ll stand by my wife. I think she’s right on both cases.”

Bill O’Reilly agreed with Perry’s wife last night and said anyone of faith would be “raked over the coals” by the “secular press.”

Lol!! Perry is getting brutalized by his opponents because of his ignorance!!

  • Anonymous

The political atmosphere seems to be coming as a big surprise to her and I’m not sure why.

Maybe the surprise has come from the unexpected attacks inside his own party.

She’s been the wife of a Governor for his three terms, but running for the President of the United States means more scrutiny and its only really just started.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WH3ZLMM7CUKUHUIMK4TKXW6SQE John

    She is right.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WH3ZLMM7CUKUHUIMK4TKXW6SQE John

I will also say it is a combination of his faith AND party.  You don’t see people asking Barack Obama “why he doesn’t believe in science” because he is a Christian who believes in God.  The press attacks Perry and projects the crazy religous narrative on to him because that is what the stereotype liberals like to perpetuate onto conservatives.

  • Anonymous

Anita Perry possesses some outstanding attributes.

  • lawl

that’s weird. i didnt know the other 17 candidates were atheists.

  • lawl

pssshhh. why would anyone think that believing in a giant invisible magic man in the sky who talks to you is crazy. man, liberals these days.

  • Anonymous

No you big haired dumb Texas honkytonk  queen….it’s because the Lord hates him so much he set fires to Texas after the “Pray for Rain” Rally.

Besides, Cain and Bachmann are the ones REALLY called by God to be president!

  • Anonymous

Did Rick-the-Haysoos say he saw his wife’s bush burn?  Man, that’s harsh.  Serves the moronic Christers right, though.

  • Me

Anybody who thinks “God” is speaking them should be made fun of and criticized.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WH3ZLMM7CUKUHUIMK4TKXW6SQE John

So when President Obama is closing his eyes in silent prayer to a giant invisible magic man in the sky he is just a normal sane human being?  You see the utter hypocrisy?

  • Anonymous

Jon Huntman believes in God and says perry is anti science

  • Anonymous

It looks like Perry is going into Palin’s handbag and pulling out the victim card.

  • jim

I thought republicans were the party of “personal responsibility.” She sure sounds like a victim to me. Oh, that’s right…personal responsibility and “pick youself up”is meant for other folks. Victimization is for republicans.

  • Bob

BTW, when did Perry marry Anita Bryant? I missed that one.

  • Bob

Perry’s favorite pastors believe in “Japanese sun goddesses” and think the Statue of Liberty is “a demonic idol.”
He’s either a nut – or shamelessly pandering to nuts.

  • Bob

today’s rightwingers are the biggest bunch of crybabies I’ve ever seen.
Perry’s lunatic pastors havn’t received anywhere near the scrutiny that Obama got for Rev. Wright, and they’ve said things far more insane.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WH3ZLMM7CUKUHUIMK4TKXW6SQE John

They have got nothing on Obama’s favorite pastors.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FSPIVAFYI672OH5NOKVRTEZA4U MadCharles

And she expected what from the msm ?

  • Anonymous

At least Palin did the cryin herself

You mean like Parrys pastor saying Mormon is a cult?

  • Anonymous

Now Parrys pastor is the MSM?

  • Exgoper

Obama — unlike Perry — hasn’t questioned science publicly, so why would it even be raised as an issue?

  • Exgoper

Did he really call the Statue of Liberty a demonic idol?

I hadn’t read that, but certainly I’ve always suspected it!

  • Exgoper

Frankly, I think — and hope — that he’s really an agnostic and just does it because he knows the country isn’t ready to accept someone who thinks more than he prays.

And even if he does believe this nonsense, I at least give him credit for not shoving it down our throats.

Nothing can save Perry now as he has been exposed as a know-nothing clown, a male version of Sarah Palin.

  • Anonymous

    Interesting!

  • bhodie

Looks like Anita Perry is another Todd Palin….These 4 need to go off together and tell each other stories about God calling them to save our nation…OMG, do we really need more spouses making statements…I’ll bet Ann Romney loved this…Does anyone even know what Herman Cains wife looks like…This should be a bunch of laughs…

  • Lizton

It appears Perry had the same ‘reading’ list as Palin. LOL

  • Tex45

Rick Perry is the epitome of the empty suit candidate and dumber than a fence post to boot.

  • Tim Tebow

Is it his faith or his brain that is holding him back?

Or maybe his faith is cutting off the blood flow to his brain?

  • CTognotti

I’d disagree that Jeremiah Wright’s rhetoric is crazier than believing the emperor of Japan knocked boots with a sun goddess that sunk their economy. More politically offensive, sure (though I bet the Japanese might feel otherwise), but crazier? I dunno.

  • CTognotti

I agree, there’s a distinction in commitment between how Obama expresses his faith and how Perry does. Obama, for example, never orchestrated and hosted a stadium event advocating prayer as a benefit to fixing the American economy. It’s plain for anybody to see that that Perry’s a bit more hardcore about this stuff. Which, frankly, makes me wonder why he’d be willing to scapegoat his belief in God as what’s holding him back, instead of being one of the worst national debate presences I’ve ever seen as a politically-minded citizen.

Anyways, if Obama indeed believes he’s communicating with a divine authority, I would consider him equivalently mistaken as everybody else who believes that. I won’t dodge that. You’d grant me, though, that he isn’t exactly chomping at the bit to legislate his faith.

  • Exgoper

Precisely. There’s a very clear separation between Obama’s private beliefs and his approach to public policy, which is as it ought to be. And as it is in most western democracies. The conservatives in Britain, for instance, would never dream of wearing their religion on their sleeves. Only in crazy theocracies in the middle east is there an effort to fuse church and state. And in the modern GOP.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jtmehran Joanne Mehran

    Grow up and quit whining!

  • caconservative

No, Miss Perry, it’s because he openly told American citizens that illegal alien parasites could take seats from legal American students and then gave us some completely bogus argument not having a heart!

  • Pious Jeffy

“After Rick had won being elected for the governorship for the third
time in Texas, there was a nagging, a pulling at my heart for him to run
for president,” Perry said. “You know what we have no leadership in
Washington. We have nobody to guide our country. (…) God was already
speaking to me, but he didn’t want to hear it… He felt like he needed to
    see the burning bush
. I said, ‘Look, let me tell you something. You may
not see that burning bush but there are people who see that burning
    bush for you.”

    Oh, GREAT!

So, the moron Parry cow is saying dog could NOT talk to hubby directly?

THAT is the height of the stupidity of the buyble thumpers.

  • Anonymous

Obama fakes that sh*t just like the rest of us do. When I hold my head down in prayer, for example, I’m actually counting the dots on my dress cause I know the resulting number will reveal the meaning of life before your jolly Santa Claus does!

  • http://gregingleright.weebly.com/ Greg

While not one to take text as literal truth I understand the draw of older faiths. Their origin clouded by time well enough to seem possibly true. Mormonism strikes me as the close kin of Scientology… Uniquely American, easily debunked and oddly composed… I can’t help but doubt the intellectual rigor of those who willingly participate in the faith.

  • mosesdinoark

Arent people who hear voices usually called crazy?  How come if they claim its Jezus its ok?  This broad is grade:A wacko!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WH3ZLMM7CUKUHUIMK4TKXW6SQE John

I like how you and the press rationalize and excuse Obama and Democrats as being the “good” kind of religious.  You project this intelligent reasonableness on Democrats that you would never excuse in a religous Republican candidate.

    Obama really doesn’t like war….

Obama really doesn’t like Guantanomo Bay….

Obama really doesn’t like the Patriot Act…..

Obama really doesn’t believe in God…..

    More of the Christian-victimhood complex.

In a country where 76% of the population is Christian, somehow they manage to behave as though they are an oppressed minority.

  • CTognotti

I don’t view him as the “good” kind of religious person, I view him as better than most. And interestingly enough, the religious people I rate as “better than most” are usually the ones who make the least effort to hang their unprovable doctrines around the necks of reasonable, secular citizens. While Obama certainly may believe in something that is at base level just as fantastical as Perry does, the way that shapes their governance isn’t equivalent.

  • CTognotti

I often do wonder just what percentage of America’s dominant Christian majority don’t really believe it in their hearts. Lying, or self-delusion, is an oft-occurring human activity (and not one I’m immune to), so I suspect the number would be intriguing.

  • NeverWrong

Mrs. Perry, give it a rest. Rick has not been brutalized by anyone other than himself with all his gaffs. He is not ready to be running for President. He does not do any homework ahead of the debates. He has lost the confidence of virtually everyone and should drop out now before it really gets embarrassing. He is just not Prime Time Ready! But, nobody is picking on him or bullying him.

  • Anonymous

    Not really.

Yes, he’s definitely getting attacked–mostly by his own party.  But it really has nothing to do with his faith.  More to do with the N#$#erhead thing and his pastor’s comments about Mormonism.  She’s just trying to play the Jesus card in order to make her husband into a victim.

Although, Perry is the one who sells his own religion like it’s a used car in order to score votes, so he shouldn’t be surprised if people focus on his faith when he’s the one who is drawing their attention to it at every turn.  Maybe if he’d quit pimping Jesus out at every turn people would start to respect his faith a bit more.  As it is, he’s really nothing more than a Pharisee–and I say that as a Christian.  A real Christian would not have to advertise his faith constantly, or hold political prayer meetings, or proclaim to the world that Jesus asked him personally to run for president, instead a real Christian would just live their faith humbly.

youre just as stupid as the parrys….best thing for you to do is hide your ignorance by learning to STFU…allowing in state tuition does not get you a seat anywhere…you should know this…you qualify for in state tuition but were never allowed to attend a college because of the rule that says you need to graduate high school first…if youre gonna be a hate monger, get ya shit together….maybe its affirmative action in college addmitance you wanna complain about….if you need help go ask your uncle clarence thomas about that….hes your affirmative action college grad and supreme court justice….HOBBIT

  • S R Karenova

So Rick Perry is phucking up because of his Christianity according to his wife? She’s making lame excuses talking out her assss. Rick Perry has proven himself to be another incoherent, inarticulate moron in the GOP ala Sarah Palin. That’s why his campaign has visited the meat grinder over the last month. His dramatic fall has nothing to do with ponzi scheme social security, immigration or his faith. It has everything to do with talking like a third grader bumbling over simple English when you’re not giving a prepared speech. Republicans want to win badly against Obama. Perry is a loser.

  • S R Karenova

I just saw where he referred to the Revolutionary War in the 16th century. That just feeds the narrative already set in of being a bumbling idiot.

This woman is a true dummy! Rick Perry is and has been the most incompetent Texas Governor in all history, and she is a close second! Perry has tripped up himself repeatedly and now he sends out his wife to speak when she has no desire or speaking ability? Give me a break! On the national scene, Perry has stepped into it at every turn and continues to show his incompetence and lack of preparation for this campaign! Perry is truly in this for himself as he traipses around the country billing the people of Texas for his excesses! Perry courted the Evangelicals, the Toxic Egotistical Activist(TEA) party while lambasting the president on de-regulation of the private sector! Perry called this scrutiny onto himself when he entered into the race!

  • Carisa

Anita: it’s called REALITY. If you are not strong enough to deal with people outside of your christian comfort bubble / echo chamber, then maybe you were mistaken when you heard god ’telling you’ your hubby should run for president. Perhaps…it was YOUR OWN voice wanting husband to be president so you can fulfill your delusional fantasy to be first lady princess? 1000 times more likely.

p.s. Santa Claus – you’re safe to believe in him – he’s not in the bible.  See I made your day.  Now go do your early Christmas shopping.  Bah bye

  • Bob Uda

Perry’s poll has tanked because of the following:

    1.  His association with Rev. Jeffress
    2.  His refusal to build the border fence
    3.  His support of Texas paying the tuition of illegal aliens
    4.  His support of illegal aliens
    5.  His very poor showing as a debater.  He cannot think fast enough on his feet.
    6.  His “playing the religious card” too much
    7.  His denigrating the voters who are against his funding the tuition of illegal aliens

These deficiencies show that he is not yet ready for prime time.  Obama would make minced meat out of him in the presidential debates.  Perry will not win the majority of the Independent and moderate votes.  He definitely would not get even a small percentage of the black vote.  Herman Cain would do a better job at winning the evangelical votes.  Perry’s piecemeal jobs and economics plan is not attractive as Cain’s 9-9-9 plan.  A Romney-Cain or Cain-Romney ticket will be a winner.

  • Joan Kelly

    radsenior,

I truly think Rick Perry is in this solely for the money.  I do believe the Koch Brothers are paying him largely to carry their agenda of kill the little guy to the White House.  If the bucks are big enough, he’ll be their guy.  After all, shouldn’t this be a great thing for  poor boy from Texas?

Ego, Baby.  It’s all about ego.  Anita gets off on being  a good Christian wife.  Deliver me, please.

  • Joan Kelly

Being “ready for prime time” is in NO way criteria for holding the office of President of the United States of America!

Giving people benefits, if not actual money, determines one’s unfitness to hold the office.  Being a so called “Christian” doesn’t NOT mean one is fit to hold the office.  This is not a Christian country!

right – cause raw story wrote it! lol

    like this one from “rawstory”

video has surfaced of NYPD police arresting Occupy Wall Street protesters for allegedly removing their money out of a Citibank branch. In addition, an arrest of a non-protester is shown in the video yelling, “What are you doing, what are you doing” as police took her into custody

Yes, these people would have been arrested for “removing their money out of a Citibank branch”.
    lol

You really must become just a wee bit more selective – not much, just a wee bit.

I see.  Criticizing Romney for being a Mormon is fine and dandy but criticizing Perry for being a fundamentalist evangelical Christian is persecution.  I wonder if Mrs. Perry is equally upset at evangelical Christians who attack Obama for being a so-called Muslim, who attack Muslims for being Muslims, who attack atheists for not believing in God, and who attack pagans as devil-worshippers.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1225321535 Marijon Benedict

Aren’t the attacks from his own party based mostly on his supposed softness on the illegal immigration issue?
