Rush Limbaugh Warns Listener To ‘Distrust All The Media’ On ‘Presidential Politics’

audio

Rush Limbaugh warned a listener, Joyce — an ardent Fox News fan– that the mainstream media was essentially a wing of the Democrat (sic) Party and was intentionally going to be biased against the Republicans in the 2012 presidential race. He singled out ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos as being particularly “complicit” in the reelection of President Obama.

“What you need to be is suspicious of virtually everything you hear and read and see in conventional media,” “You’ve got to understand that everything there, I don’t care, Washington Post, New York Times, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, LA Times, it’s all oriented toward two things: advancing the Democrat Party, and whoever runs it, in this case, Barack Obama, and at the same time, defeating, embarrassing and humiliating the Republicans and conservatives. Those are the two things that are the daily objectives of the media in this country.”

“There is no news, Joyce,” Limbaugh quipped. “You don’t turn on the news now to find out what is happening in the world. You turn on the news to find out what Obama is doing and how well he’s doing it, and how much people love Obama, and how he loves the country, and how he’s doing great things for seniors, he’s putting $40 a month in people’s pockets that Republicans want to take out of their pockets. He’s saving people from these Republicans who want to ban birth control pills. He’s saving people from the Republicans who want to ban abortion.”

“You must watch the news and inherently, instinctively distrust all of it, and then later on learn what they did that was accurate and true and what wasn’t. But the best way to get through this is to distrust all of it.”

All media or just Fox News??

  • Anonymous

    yup.

This is exactly what dictators tell their populace. “You can’t trust the world’s media. Only trust us.”

  • Anonymous

For a party that talks an awful lot about “personal responsibility,” it sure does love to make excuses for its failures.  If the party goes down to another huge electoral defeat, don’t blame the sh!tiness of the GOP nominee, blame the libruhl, lamestream, driveby media!

  • Charles Ulysses Feney

“Piles” Limbaugh thinks the media is untrustworthy????
He’s living proof that media standards aren’t a high jump, but a limbo contest!
    He was
    - married four times;
    - Ruined his hearing and lost his teeth by using un-prescribed cracked Oxycontin - Google “opiate hearing loss”;
    - Dodged the draft to Viet Nam because of “extreme anal cysts”;
    - was stopped at customs with a thousand un-prescribed Viagra tablets coming back from a “sex resort” in the Dominican Republic.

Why would anyone listen to such a reprobate, let alone buy tea from him!!

  • Anonymous

Well, since the media is in the business of not calling out the liar Jack Lew from the administration when he claims that 60 votes are needed to pass a budget in the senate, while simultaneously proclaiming how the recent declining unemployment numbers are fantastic while ignoring the fact labor pool is hemorrhaging workers at record levels….

Its definitely prudent to take the media with a huge grain of salt.

Oh yeah, and I havn’t heard much about gas being projected to rise to about $4.50 a gallon this summer either….

  • Anonymous

I can’t believe how paranoid Trump, Limpballs, and the hillbilly princess are these days….Man they don’t even trust Fox news now….I can’t wait to see these people disappear from the scene now that people are seeing how ridiculous they are, and they say things to better their own pockets and lives, not regular working people….The jig is up!!!

  • http://mcstumpy.myopenid.com/ Stumpy McGrumpy

Does his use of the word ‘complicit’ imply that Limbaugh thinks Obama’s reelection is a done deal?

  • Anonymous

Rush calls himself a journalist…… is he apart of the news media too?

  • Anonymous

    Just MSNBC.

  • Anonymous

Man! The dittoheads are beyond stupid listening to this ridiculous crap…lol

No, dictators force organized religions to do things regardless of the religion’s doctrine.

Oh yea…and they also commit their military without the consent of congress.

You should really be against Rick Santorum then…

    Isn’t Rush “media”?

Expose the White House – Media matters – “Mainstream Media” Cabal!

But don’t forget the biggest vote-getter of the year – The Democrats War On Religion!
(Don’t just say Obama, make sure you besmirch the whole Party with their blatant bigotry.)

Nothing motivates voters better than when a political party is attacking their Religion. (heh-heh)

Obama’s pol numbers are going up and it scare’s ‘ol Rush. If the Republican candidates  were kicking ass he would LOVE the media.

  • Anonymous

Rush is absolutely GD right. The LSM is corrupt.

  • Anonymous

Is it healthy to distrust the media? It sure is. Everybody should harbor a natural distrust because there is a lot of smoke and mirrors going on. Rush is certainly correct on that. But is it a bad thing that some media outlets tend to promote Obama, and some do the opposite? Fox News, the leading cable news outlet, which leans decidedly to the right, and is mostly antagonistic to the President, is the great equalizer that Rush, and the others ignore. Sure, some news stations lean left, but so what. Let those who like that watch, and those that do not, not watch.

Rush is belly aching because his side will be nominating a candidate who wants to ban abortion in this country, and limit the availability of birth control, and it galls him that the left wing media would call them out for it. Rush calls that bias.

  • Hout Bosques

    Yup.

Is that what the dictators in North Korea and Iran says? Because Im pretty sure the media in those countries are very similar to ours right now…. They praise their leader! they attack anyone who questions their leader!  they hide stories that dont make their leader look good!

Except for FOX News… who does question authority and who are the watchdog to the people. Fox News is  hated by the left wing because they dont say “they have tingles going up there legs”.

Right, Fox is our protector… Fox, the one news agency that derides the “mainstream media” while simultaneously bragging that they are the number one news outlet. You’re aware, right, that Roger Ailes first launched a “Fair & Balanced” channel after telling Nixon that he thought the GOP needed its own station for propaganda? Even Nixon was apparently turned off by the idea, but then Ailes succeeded the second time around with Fox.

If you honestly think that the dozens of large newspapers in this country are under Obama’s command, and only Fox tells us the truth, you believe in a fantasy. There are more factual errors on Fox in one day than most newspapers have in a year.

  • http://www.proactivepolitics.blogspot.com/ Norbit Peters

I wouldn’t call the revelation of critical facts and perspectives, that are decidedly absent from mainstream media reports, “antagonistic”.

Consider the blatant and politically-motivated misrepresentation of the mainstream media in reporting accounts, images and narratives of Tea Party events (which they didn’t support), and compare that to their coverage of OWS protests (which they did support).

Now we know how the mainstreams were so well coordinated  – because they all take their marching orders from the White House-Media Matters propaganda machine!

Rush has alienated a lot of listeners with his support for Santorum; including me.  I listened to him for years but became tired of his “talent on loan from God” shtick.  He panders to the far right to sell advertising and tea, but I don’t see him as being terribly knowledgeable about business, economics, or anything else of significance.  I can do a better job researching candidate records…for example, his Guy Santorum sponsored or cosponsored 51 bills to increase spending AND failed to sponsor or co-sponsor even one spending cut proposal.  Rush is supporting a RINO social conservative.  What irony.

Obama himself said that he should not be reelected if he can’t fix things in 3 years.  I guess you know better than him.  Again, a liberal who will not place any blame at all on Obama.  He had both the House and Senate to help him, also.  He is a total failure.

  • Anonymous

“You do know that once oil is in high demand the price goes up right….. the economy is picking up… this is a good thing.”

Really?  Let me guess, you were born sometime in the 1980s?

Here’s a clue:  During the malaise of the Carter years, oil wasn’t only expensive, it was in short supply.  We had an incredibly anemic economy then, but we also had skyrocketing energy pricces. However, during the boom that was the late 1990s, oil was a 1/3rd of where it is today.

Why is energy rising now?  In the four years since Obama became president, new oil leases haven’t been issued.  Sure, domestic capacity has expanded, but it has only expanded because of leases that were signed during Bush’s tenure.  It takes that long for production to start once the leases are signed.

The real damage that Obama has caused won’t be felt completely for another 3-5 years.  Then, God help us.

  • Anonymous

ah no, he is the WH

What would these libs be saying if CBS gave Karl Rove a job to do the same exact thing?  Their heads would explode, but someone conservatives are just being big babies when they complain about Stephanopoulos.  The hypocrisy is stunning.

Rush “let’s keep this a White Man’s World the way God intended” Limbaugh needs to do a better job of regulating the flow into and out of his “pie hole”.  Whenever he opens his mouth, either mass quantities of apple pie are crammed in, or mass quantities of cow pie spew out.

Limbaugh is as significant as a rusty hinge on a frequently-used door.  He makes a lot of noise and occasionally inhibits positive progress, but he is generally just regarded as little more than an inconvenient annoyance.

Prove what? The stuff about Ailes? There are plenty of stories on it and you can find them yourself by Googling “Ailes Nixon”. The information comes from Nixon White House records published on Gawker.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/richard-nixon-and-roger-ailes-1970s-plan-to-put-the-gop-on-tv/2011/07/01/AG1W7XtH_blog.html

    http://gawker.com/5814150/roger-ailes-secret-nixon+era-blueprint-for-fox-news

    From the story:

“A Plan for Putting the GOP on TV News” (read it here) is an unsigned, undated memo calling for a partisan, pro-GOP news operation to be potentially paid for and run out of the White House. Aimed at sidelining the “censorship” of the liberal mainstream media and delivering prepackaged pro-Nixon news to local television stations, it reads today like a detailed precis for a Fox News prototype. From context provided by other memos, it’s apparent that the plan was hatched during the summer of 1970. And though it’s not clear who wrote it, the copy provided by the Nixon Library literally has Ailes’ handwriting all over it—it appears he was routed the memo by Haldeman and wrote back his enthusiastic endorsement, refinements, and a request to run the project in the margins. ” It reads: “Today television news is watched more often than people read newspapers, than people listen to the radio, than people read or gather any other form of communication. The reason: People are lazy. With television you just sit—watch—listen. The thinking is done for you.”

Occupiers Prepare to Check ALEC Off the Left’s Shopping List

The not-so-spontaneous Occupiers are planning a new action for February 29th — “Shut Down the Corporations.” As is usually the case, this appears on the surface to be another David and Goliath battle between the little people and the big, bad, evil capitalists. However, looking behind the curtain, it is more like Occupy acting as a private army for all the same progressive players. This is not an attack on corporate America. This is an attack on selected conservative corporations only.

…..Van Jones’ Color of Change organization has an anti-ALEC campaign going as well, against the “racist” Voter ID legislation that would actually require identification to vote.

The problem is the public. They can no longer look objectively at politics and politicians. If your favorite politician is caught cheating on his wife, the outlets reporting that FACT are obviously biased and hate America. If some report or poll reflects well on your favorite politician, the outlets reporting that FACT are obviously wonderful and truthful and all-American.

So everybody is on-guard, ready to judge every network, show, anchor and story and call them the enemy the moment they report something that doesn’t jibe with their political views.

Basically, people are idiots who see what they want to see. They hold their beliefs so firmly that contrary facts are not only meaningless, but must be the work of the enemy. The networks, obviously Fox but also MSNBC take advantage of this sheep mentality.

Now please tell me I hate America and want terrorists to win.

Yeah, the White House colluding with the MSM.

You must have been absolutely outraged when the last Republican administration let a ringer (aka ‘Jeff Gannon’ in case you’ve forgotten) into the White House press room, where he was called on by the President a number of times, so that he (Jeff) could lob softball questions (prefaced by obsequious compliments) to the President.

I’ll bet you wanted to put a bullet in your TV when you discovered that had happened.

He is definitely brilliant in that respect. Just like Mr. Beck. You have to give them credit where credit is due. They both know their audience so very well, and can work them up to a fever pitched froth at the drop of any right wing, fearful, hateful issue du jour.

What a coincidence! I have to laugh at all the conservatives who hate Stewart, Colbert and Maher.

I imagine Rush’s head would explode if he ever had any sort of regular counter balance on his show.

The Right Wing will have to preemtively attack the Obama Admin through Right Wing media since their candidates have no substance.  The rhetoric will be racheted up to full tilt.

  • http://www.proactivepolitics.blogspot.com/ Norbit Peters

Just as with the mainstream media, are these orchestrated OWS riots likewise fomented and planned directly from the White House?

Does everyone remember how the President berated and “scolded” Tea Party protestors, yet he continues to remain defiantly silent when it comes to his “class-warfare” OWS supporters?
Does the man have any honesty or integrity at all?

And remembr how the Media Matters-controlled mainstream news outlets reported peaceful Tea Party events, as dangerous and racist; yet continue to downplay and cover-up OWS carnage?

Well now we have documented evidence as to why!

This is not a President, he’s a Junta Leader.

OMG! Apparently Rush is right (in more ways than one).

Is Fox News shifting to the center, relatively speaking? Politico
thinks so, tracing it back to a “course correction” ordered by Roger
Ailes last fall. He wanted Fox to move away from Tea Party
“cheerleading” and to tone down the far-right rhetoric, writes
    Politico’s Keach Hagey.

“A casual Fox viewer might barely notice the changes since the network remains critical of the Obama administration and reliably conservative opinion voices, like (Sean) Hannity and Bill O’Reilly, still anchor key spots in the Fox firmament. But the changes are there.”

The channel is pushing its straight-news hosts, getting tougher on
Republican candidates, and even hiring contributors like Sally Kohn, a
gay liberal commentator. For many conservatives, though, Fox has gone too far.

“I’ve gone from all Fox to no Fox,” says radio host John
Fredericks. “I feel they’ve lost that independent conservative mantra.”
If Fox is seeking a wider audience, it’s doing the right thing, says a
media professor. “It’s a smart move to get slightly less conservative
and draw in some people in the middle and slightly to the left.”

Look at Obama’s governance, such as it is; what he’s done and does, not gives speeches and misrepresents.
Everything he does is MORE GOVERNMENT – MORE CONTROL!

    He’s not only a Marxist, he’s a TEXTBOOK Marxist!

It’s just now waiting to see how the inevitable conflict between freedom and Marxism will unfold.

In the end freedom will win because it enables evolution…that’s why Marxism’s never lasted long in the past, but democracies have.

You miss the point completely; Rush’s show IS counterbalance.

George Will is hardly a strong conservative; yes he is a bit RINOy.

But notice that your examples are fairly limited. I bet you can only name two or three conservatives that are non-FOX. So that’s 2-3 squishy conservatives against probably 30-40 network hosts and anchors that are either hard left or mostly left.

You really just proved his point. The Left is afraid of counterbalance. I don’t hear anyone on the Right trying to shut you guys up – they want the debate. But you on the Left, not so much.

There’s plenty of conservatives and right leaning folks that are on places other than Fox; Ari Fleischer, David Frum, Erick Erickson, Matthew Dowd and Dana Loesch to name just a few.

I’m not able to “reply” to one of your previous comments, so I’ll reply here.  Regarding your question  about why I’m always defending Bush —please point out ONE time where I’ve defended Bush.  Also, regarding your comments on Obama’s job creation, Osama Bin Laden, etc….  you might want to include in your “job creation” numbers that he has a net loss in that arena, AND he does not include all those folks who have given up on looking for a job.  You can find that ino in Obama’s own Congressional Budget Office numbers.  That number of people is now at record levels.  They say that the actual employment rate is around 10%.  Regarding OBL, Obama did not kill him, the Navy seals did that.  Obama had the very difficult job of saying “yes” when they asked if they could kill the most hated enemy in US history.  You ask what I want ot blame Obama for:  how about spending several trillion dollars in 3 years, that my children will still be paying for years from now; how about a credit downgrade under his watch, how about not allowing the government to use the word “terrorist” anymore–does that sound like someone who is serious about defeating our enemies that want to kill us?  There’s plenty more.  Obama himself said that he should be a one-term president if he cant fix the problems in his first term, and that’s a fact.

Leedog, in response to your comment about the “milk” being spilled under republican leadership, did you know that Bush was the one who started the auto bailout that you referenced in your post about Obama’s kudos?  That is common knowledge.  Now back to the “milk”–after the disaster of Jimmy Carter’s presidency, Ronald Reagan came in and cleaned up his mess.  So, it can be done.  Again, you have yet to assign any blame at all on Obama.  You know, the humongous stimulous payouts were not so successful.  There are reports of several companies that he gave money to going bankrupt.  So what did we get for his spending $8 trillion dollars?  The other day, Obama was quoting the Bible and Jesus and saying that Jesus would do what he is doing.  Well, I wonder what Jesus would do about Obama’s views on abortion…  If it suits him at the time, he will say whatever he has to say to get his way.

Just because you say I’ve made your point doesn’t make it so.

Blame Bush first – and only then go ahead and blame Obama.

Or do you give Bush a pass even though he never acknowledged any mistakes? But castigate Obama for doing exactly the same thing?

(Though maybe you should give Obama another 4 years or so to see if he admits to any mistakes – we’re still waiting to hear Bush’s mea culpa.)

Because if that’s what you’re doing, you’re obviously only motivated by partisanship. “My guy is good and your guy is BAD!”

You will never be convinced otherwise because you will always twist and spin the facts.

Just Google Limbaugh and lies… or untruths… or incendiary remarks. You get the picture. I’m sure there’s plenty out there (that you will undoubtedly deny or dispute).

If you only see him through rose-colored glasses, nothing I, or anyone else, will ever change your mind or alter your opinion. Not one little bit.

But I’ll ask you just one question? If Mr. L is such an upstanding member of the community, why was he not allowed to become a part owner of a football franchise?

I believe that was because he was accused of racist remarks. Now of course, if you agree with him on that front, then you would, and will continue, to see nothing wrong with him and anything he says.

I don’t know why, but many of your posts do not have the  ‘reply’ function. Sorry I’ve had to post it here.

“Typical liberal thinking you know better than anyone else.”

    “What facts
have I twisted? You claim that I “always twist and spin the facts…”
I’d really like to know–specifically–what you think I’ve twisted.
I’d be very interested to know.”

Actually, I wasn’t speaking about you specifically. What I’m saying is that no matter who it is and whatever side you’re on, it’s more than likely that listener/viewer will defend the person (in this instance, Mr. L) to the hilt. Which leads me to -

“By the way, I don’t agree with
    everything he says.”

Thank you (truly).  Not everybody does that. But while you may agree with everything he says, I don’t doubt there are plenty of people who do. Plus, agreeing with his philosophy or opinion is different from disputing facts (but that’s a whole other topic).

“Did you notice how I talked about going to the
source that he provided to see it for myself?  That’s called checking
    things out for myself.”

Like I said, kudos. (I’m not being sarcastic here.)

“Also, I never claimed to say that he was an

My point was that he has some baggage that could legitimately call into question some of his other pronouncements. That’s all.

“Also, I don’t believe that you have

the Rams.  We only know what we’ve heard on the “news.”"

I think that’s a cop out. In this day and age, the “news” – if it was something different than what was alleged of Rush – would have surely leaked out by now.

    “There are
several things he does that I don’t care for, so, once again, your
    argument is shot.”

I really don’t see how my argument is shot. I’m sure some of the things he says are true and/or make sense. You and I probably just have different percentages of what we think is true versus not true.

“Now again, please tell me what facts I have
twisted.  Please tell me one fact that I’ve twisted.”

    Asked and answered, I hope.

    “Bet you can’t, you
    arrogant fool. Typical liberal.”

I always laugh when I read typical this or typical that. I guess I just don’t think that way. Even when I read something from the right that I disagree with, I never think to myself, “Ah, typical conservative.” But hey, that’s just me.

I always laugh when I read “typical” this or “typical” that. I guess I just don’t think that way. Even when I read something from the right that I disagree with, I never think to myself, “Ah, typical conservative.” But, hey, that’s just me.

Sorry, I missed your post on the abolishment of capital punishment and the recall and disbanding of our military, since both of those entities result in the murder of fellow human beings.  Or is that just another example hypocritical conservatives espousing their support for religious beliefs while practising the exact opposite in their sanctimonious lives

  • Anonymous

Again, I wasn’t able to post at the appropriate spot, so I’m doing it here.

“Again, Biffff, you are making arrogant, baseless claims about me that
you can’t possibly know.  What have I said tonight that makes you think
“my party” as you put it, is “pure.”"

Again, I was not referring to you specifically. I’m referring to the party that has ‘purity’ tests to determine whether they’re conservative enough or risk being labelled a RINO. (FYI, it was during the forum to determine the next Michael Steele.) The Republican party seems to be a very splintered organization.

    “I’ve provided facts, while you’re
provided nothing but your opinion.  Could it be that you have no facts
to offer in support of your comments?”

I’m sure my facts could do battle with your facts (BTW, what facts have you actually stated?), but I’m not really that invested in this particular argument. (I’m sorry if you think that’s a cop out, but I already spend too much time on the internet and/or at the computer.)

But I will ask you this:

I’ve always wondered why George W. Bush needed to describe himself as a “compassionate conservative”? In hindsight, he seemed to be saying (clarifying) that in general, conservatives aren’t/weren’t usually very compassionate. Or is there another way to explain that declaration?

If Obama were a Marxist, he would have undoubtedly taken the economic collapse as an excuse to at least try to nationalize the banks and the auto industry. He just seems to leave is honest evaluations off the table when talking about bone headed decisions of the conservatives. If you can even call them that any more.

Conservatives and liberals both succeed and providing a healthier diet of revenues to the state at the expense of the people.

Liberals bleed their heart for the welfare programs. Conservatives (better defined as statists) want to bang on the drums of war and covet the funding for such a military intervention.

All of which is destructive to our sovereignty. All of which is clearly unConstitutional. And only half of which Rush is really willing to engage in honest discourse.

So yes, people are tuning you out too Rush. That coming from a 15 year listener.

It never ceases to amaze me how much the Obama worshiping liberals can lie to themselves and say that all is well with what he is doing.  Obama has spent more money in 3 years than Bush did in 8 years, and he is trying to add more.  Who in their right mind would think that this is not a problem?  Oh yeah–you would.  Partner, I hate to busrt your bubble, but you guys seem to forget that Obama himself said that he should not be re-elected if he couldn’t fix the mess in his first term.  Gas prices are going through the roof again, andand Obama’s own Congressional Budget Office  says that his “8.3%” unemployement number doesn’t take into account all the record number of people who have quit looking for a job.  If you’ll care to take a look it up on Google, you’ll find that over 50 leading economic agencies are saying that Obama’s new budget is too optimistic, and that things are worse than he thinks.  Just tow days ago, a hand written letter by Obama was reported on, and he, himself, said the recovery is still a couple years away.

But, you’re right–anyone with a brain wouldn’t buy that he’s done any harm.  Oh, I almost forgot.  The architect of Obamacare, Jonathan Gruber, has now backtracked and says that insurance will actually INCREASE under this fiasco.  He had originally said they would decrease–of course, he said that after getting awarded a no-bid contract by Obama.  Hmmm…things sure getting rosey!  At least in your world.

What proof do you have to say that the “community reinvestment act” didn’t do any harm?

    “AMERICA
    THE BEAUTIFUL”

    America
the Beautiful and Land of the Free! Indeed! America must be considered as the
ultimate bastion of democracy in the world! Why? The deal is, if it were in
some Latin American countries or even in other European nations, Rush Limbaugh
would not have a platform not alone an audience to spit his sulfuric demagogy
and charlatanism on the airwave. The unpolished , boorish Republicans or call
them modern Republicans, if you want, prompted by Rush are out of touch! They
are living in an utopian world whereof they wish that the black slaves could
still be vassals of the white masters, the wives can still be the domestics or
the properties of their husbands. It is astounding to conceptualize that there
is still yet a group of people who are drown under the weight of abysmal ,
unfathomable ignorance when the world is changing with the speed of the light ;whether
it is in technology, ethnicity, demography or sociology: The grandson of a
slave is married to the daughter of a wealthy white maverick or host a Grammy
award in Hollywood, immigrants now serve in Congress or Senate ; people are
watching TV via their mobile phone, cars are talking to us and leading us
throughout the highways! This is mesmerizing what’s is going on our globe. This
is not the era where the Roman Papal oligarchy steadfastly implied that the
earth is flat and those who attempted to prove them wrong ( During the
Scientific Revolution era-14th Century) by scientific method were castigated
,tortured or choked in silence,( i.e, Copernicus, Galileo.) Hence, amid this
technological revolution, social and class emancipation, Republicans still call
themselves Conservatives or for better  or worst Retrograders! If Rush Limbaugh can
still occupy the airwave with this kind of hideous, aberrant discourse, America
must be proud itself to be called a blind-folded tolerant country!
