Santorum Clarifies: ‘Clearly’ Charleston Shooting Was Racially Motivated
Rick Santorum clarified today that he “clearly” knows the Charleston shooting was racially motivated, following remarks he made yesterday about a potential link to religion under assault.
Yesterday morning, when very few details were publicly known, Santorum talked about the hate crime aspect but also said, “You know, you talk about the importance of prayer in this time and we’re now seeing assaults on our religious liberty we’ve never seen before.”
But at the Faith & Freedom conference today, Santorum clarified to The Huffington Post that “it was clearly racially motivated.”
So why, then, did he suggest it’s an assault on religious liberty? “At the time I didn’t know it was racially motivated,” Santorum said, “nobody did.”
