SC Woman Voted For Alvin Greene Because He Had “The Most Famous Name”

video

There has been a good deal of speculation around how an unknown, supposedly self-financed man like Alvin Greene could have won South Carolina’s Democratic primary. The media has even speculated that alphabetical order may have worked in his favor. But could his name’s resemblance to famous singer Al Green have significantly contributed to that 59 percent?

This goes beyond just being a theory. A video shows a South Carolina voter saying she “went with the person who had the most famous name.” The woman even admits the method is “so bad” and laughs–but that is, indeed, how she cast her vote.

Frustrations over an ignorant electorate have been voiced for years, but leave it to South Carolina to set a new precedent.

I’m so tired of being alone

  • The_Reasonable_Lib

Can we please begin to focus on his issues, now that the man has the nomination?

  • me1ranger

HaHaHa..I rest my case. There should be a test to earn the right to vote.

  • me1ranger

Some said they just liked the color, others wanted to go ‘Greene’ to fight global warming, or because watermellon rinds are ‘Greene’. But the number one reason why SC voters voted for Al…Cuz ‘Greene’ is the color of money..yo!

    Hey, Lib?
Thanks for reminding of this great song!

“Frustrations over an ignorant electorate have been voiced for years, but leave it to South Carolina to set a new precedent.”

Shouldn’t that read “South Carolina DEMOCRATS?

  • paulmdoro

This reminds me of some single-issue voters I know. They literally do not care at all about the candidate’s stance on any other issue, they don’t care if the candidate has an actual history of producing the desired result on said issue, and they do not try and learn anything about the opponent. One issue, pull lever.

  • Sunnyr

And they actually let these people vote???? Pathetic!

Issue, hell, there are many one party voters.

In South Carolina, this appears to be truly bi-partisan, with Governor Happy “Cry Me a River” Pants, Jim Demented and Nikki “My Darn Skirt Keeps Coming Up” Haley.

True, but I’ve always thought it was strange to vote based on only a single issue, and not care about someone’s stance on anything else.

    All politics is local.

It’s often a tactical mistake as well. The abortion issue has haunted the Republicans for years, and the Democrats had to learn to keep quiet about guns.

    @me1ranger
You know if there was a test for people to vote, there would be no president Obama or any liberal ever to hold office again.
The voting pool for liberal ideas are the same ones who voted for Alvin Greene and there is alot of these people in this country.

  • paulmdoro

I know as many conservatives who’d fail a voting test as liberals.

  • Moderate

We had Cynthia McKinney in Congress, why not Al Greene? The people made their choice and deserve the politicians they elect.

Really? We had a R pres the last 8 years and majorities in Congress in the 90′s.

  • MichelleF

ps King, a majority of the country is pro-life. Not by much, but still a majority.

Translation: I knew the other guy was white; and I figured “Alvin Greene” was a brotha.

  • ex political-media hack

again…clinton was right about SC primary voting paterns in 2008…

and clyburn is showing himself to be the uber hack that ive known him to be since 2007-2008 with his outrageous charges of fixed voting machines, stolen votes and republican plants – seems there is no evidence of any of these things – but clyburn – who showed during the 2008 campaign that he lies with the worst of them – just keeps going on tv making these charges.

whats his point – is he trying to make the people of SC hate and mistrust their own government? is this responsible behavior for the whip of the us congress? will he even be called on this?

  • ex political-media hack

“Nikki “My Darn Skirt Keeps Coming Up” Haley”

boy – i really cant stand that fake progressive – but very real misogynist royal king. what a ass. (and WHAT is with that name?)

  • ladyruth54

and multiply that stupid voter many times and you will see how Obama got elected.

That’s the imperfection of democracy. People vote for their own interest, some vote themselves Govt. checks (welfare or contracts). Surely there’s a better way to govern.

    @RRK

“It’s often a tactical mistake as well. The abortion issue has haunted the Republicans for years, and the Democrats had to learn to keep quiet about guns.”

I like to think of them as divisive devices. These aren’t issues that will be solved in our lifetimes. But the politicians who, probably, for the most part, don’t care one way or the other will always use them to split us up.

Some of the best arguments against abortion, I’ve heard from the left. These aren’t religious people. Just common sense people that appreciate the irony of traditional liberalism and its stance on killing an unborn kid. Likewise, tell any (likely Democratic-voting) South Central Los Angelino that you want to take his best means of protection out of his house and he’ll look at you like you’re crazy. People know better. But the politicians don’t care. The only reason they claim to not need weapons is that the ten Secret Service members around them are all armed! I’d probably say the same thing:)

A great spin on the right would be to use abortion as a reason for global government. Despite all the new world order, big brother fears, you know they’d think about it.

Odd that this woman voted for Al Green because he had the most famous name, most voters simply do not think about for whom they cast their ballot; they just pick up a copy of the ballot that was handed out at their church and use it for a guide.
