Scaramucci Battles Tapper Over Russia: Trump’s Still Not Sold That Russia Hacked the Election

Two days after he was announced as the White House’s new communication director, Anthony Scaramucci appeared on CNN’s State of the Union to discuss joining the Trump administration. His appointment led to the resignation of White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

After a couple of minutes of friendly banter, which included Scaramucci claiming President Trump won’t change due to this age, things got a bit tense between host Jake Tapper and Scaramucci when the CNN anchor brought up recent news that Congress was going to put a bill on the president’s desk to impose harsher sanctions on Russia. Tapper wanted to know if Trump was going to veto the bill and this turned into a heated exchange over whether or not Russia was even responsible for interfering in the election.

The comms director and Wall Street financier responded by stating that the story has changed regarding the number of intelligence agencies who concluded Russia was responsible for interference before saying “someone” told him that if the Russians actually did it, no one would have actually seen it or known.

After Tapper pressed him on his anonymous source, Scaramucci admitted he was actually talking about Trump himself. This led to the two men battling over the issue of Russian hacking with the CNN host pressing Scaramucci on his siding against the FBI, CIA and other intelligence agencies.

“I didn’t say I was siding with President Trump,” Scaramucci said. “He hasn’t made the decision yet to sign that bill one way or the other. And so when he makes that decision, I will 100% side with him.”
