The Rollout of the New Las Vegas NHL Team Was, Fittingly, A Trainwreck

screen-shot-2016-11-23-at-11-20-10-am-2The new Las Vegas NHL expansion franchise finally has a name. Henceforth, the team shall be known as the Vegas Golden Knights.

On Tuesday night, a rollout ceremony was held outside the T-Mobile Arena. Perhaps appropriately given its home city, it was a mess.

First, there was the intro video, which was set up by owner Bill Foley. What played, instead, was a placeholder graphic.

The graphic was on the screen for about 45 seconds. The restless crowd eventually began jeering.

So that went well.

There was also the small matter of the team’s website going live before the ceremony. Pete Blackburn of Fox Sports was among those who made the discovery.

The name was supposed to big secret. But the cat was let out of the bag well before the bug reveal.

“We’re gonna do better than that in the rink, I’ll tell you that,” Foley said to the crowd after the video malfunction.

Golden Knights fans can only hope.
