There’s A Whole Lot Of Funny (And Famous People) In John Hodgman’s New Book Trailer
One of the strangest phenomenons of recent years has been the advent of book trailers. Without the advantage that, say, movies have (like actual visual elements that can be edited together), even books with famous authors frequently end up with trailers that just look like some intern wandered around with a Flip Camera for an hour. That’s why it’s heartening to see the brand new genre produce a work that seems like it took a little more thought than choosing a font size.
A new trailer advertising John Hodgman’s new book, That Is All, is that work.
Yes, the trailer does fall into that other trap of the book trailer; Getting famous friends of the author to just kind of pop up. However, it does it in the funniest way possible. And it implies that, after all those PC vs. Mac commercials were filmed, Justin Long was just left in a white void somewhere, hoodie and all.
Now, that’s how you advertise a book.
Watch the trailer below and check out the ridiculous credits for this thing on Funny or Die. If you don’t, you’ll never be able to figure out which dashingly handsome AMC star is voicing Hodgman’s phone for no reason (hint: it’s not one of Walking Dead‘s zombies):
