Trump Alters Proposed Muslim Ban: Only Banning Ones ‘Coming from the Terror States’
Donald Trump has once again altered his proposed ban on Muslims by saying now, for the first time, he only wants to keep out Muslims coming from “terror states.”
Based on comments from Trump––still in Scotland at his new gold resort––and a spokesperson of his, a clarification has been tacked onto that ban so that it doesn’t apply to Muslims coming from, say, Scotland:
NEW: Donald Trump does NOT support banning all foreign Muslims . Just Muslims from terror states, his spox Hope Hicks confirms to me

.@SopanDeb asked if Muslim coming from Scotland or Great Britain would be allowed into U.S. under his ban, Trump says "wouldn't bother me."

He then told me 1-on-1 that he would focus on "people coming from the terror states" and said "we are going to be so vigilant" with them /2

After, Mnuchin: "it's abt terrorism¬ about religion. It's abt Muslims from countries that support terrorism." https://t.co/3l8Hw9Ej5S

Hope Hicks then confirmed to me Trump indeed no longer supports his blanket Muslim ban. He only wants to ban Muslims from terror states /4

And before you wonder if this was the plan all along, remember that Trump’s literal announcement last year was that he’s calling for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”
Some pundits had said a regional ban would make more sense than a religious one. It appears Trump has now split the difference.
Also, remember that recently Trump publicly said he’d be willing to “back off” on the ban. Is this what that meant?
