Trump Says He’s Tapping Ben Carson to Help Trump Select Running Mate
Trump supporter and former GOP candidate Dr. Ben Carson has been tapped to assist with the effort to select a running mate for the presumptive nominee.
According to a report in the New York Times, Trump announced Wednesday that he would be assembling a committee to help choose a VP candidate in advance of the RNC in July. Carson, he said, would be on that committee.
“I think on the committee I’ll have Dr. Ben Carson and some other folks,” Trump said. Of his timetable, the Times reports that Trump said he would be announcing the committee members “soon.”
Carson has been a surrogate for the Trump campaign (and a dubiously reliable one, at times), and when asked why he had thrown in with his former rival Trump, the retired neurosurgeon raised many eyebrows when he suggested that he would be working in Trump’s administration “in an advisory capacity.”
