Twitter Doesn’t Like Indiana’s ‘Religious Freedom’ Law: ‘Bad for Business’
In recent days, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) and the GOP-controlled Indiana legislature have come under fire from high-profile celebrities and politicians, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Miley Cyrus, Ashton Kutcher, Charles Barkley, the NCAA, mayors of Seattle and San Francisco, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and many others for the state’s new Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
According to the critics, the law opens the door to anti-LGBT discrimination. But supporters say it protects the religious freedom of the state’s business owners. Indiana lawmakers said on Monday they are working to “clarify” and “fix” the law to make sure that is not the intent of the law.
On Monday afternoon, Twitter’s global public policy team (@policy) added to the dissent with the following message:
We’re disappointed to see state bills that enshrine discrimination. These bills are unjust and bad for business. We support #EqualityForAll.
