Janice Min Tapped to Transform The Hollywood Reporter

» comments

In an effort to give the publication a makeover, Richard Beckman, the owner of The Hollywood Reporter, has tapped Janice Min to become the magazine’s new editorial director.

The move is the first step toward shifting the trade publication into a “slick weekly” aimed at more high-end readers. Previously, Min was editor-in-chief of Us Weekly from 2003 to 2009, during which the magazine’s circulation more than doubled.

Min told the Los Angeles Times she was not looking to transform the Reporter into a publication like Us Weekly. Rather, she aims to expand its audience and reach.

The Hollywood Reporter is never going to tell you about Paris Hilton making a left turn on La Cienega [Boulevard],” she told the LA Times. “It will cater to the influencers of Los Angeles and the small consumer group that has a fascination with how the sausage is made in Hollywood. The opportunity is to put all of that in a larger context and elevate the discussion of the entertainment industry.”

Beckman said the coming months will entail a reinvention for the publication and an expansion of its staff. The changes are intended to make the Reporter “the most influential vehicle” covering the entertainment industry.
