Random House Unveils Huge Roll-Out for Ailes Book
On Monday morning, Random House unveiled its huge roll-out effort for Gabriel Sherman‘s forthcoming book about Roger Ailes and the Fox News empire.
The book, titled The Loudest Voice in the Room is scheduled for a Jan. 21 release, but on Monday, the publisher revealed an interactive website that, according to Capital NY, “will be a source for pushback against misinformation throughout the book’s release.”
Sherman is a contributing editor at New York magazine and his public relationship with Fox since the book was announced has been tumultuous at best. The author was not given any access to Ailes, but the publisher claims he based his writing on “hundreds of interviews with Fox News insiders past and present.” Intrigue around the book led some to believe that former Fox PR exec Brian Lewis was fired for his role as a source, but those rumors have gone largely unconfirmed.
Either way, Random House expects some pushback from the network and its various allies, as The Loudest Voice is expected to take a more starkly “anti-Ailes” tone than Zev Chafets‘ 2012 positive portrait Roger Ailes: Off Camera.
The website, TheLoudestVoiceintheRoom.com, includes vintage photographs of the Fox mastermind as well as videos showcasing his “unrivaled programming talents.” The footage therein ranges from Ailes’ time at variety show Shindig! to The Michael Douglas Show to G.H.W. Bush campaign ads to Fox’s aggressive reporting on issues like Benghazi and green energy.
Another section of the site, entitled “Ailes’ World,” features a “cast of characters” displayed in Wall Street Journal-esque drawings. Among the crowd are Ailes’ wife, his 1970s girlfriend, key Fox execs, as well as his guard dog Champ.
