Time Labels Ft. Hood Shooter ‘Terrorist?’

T112309It looks like yesterday’s Glenn Beck show, during which Beck forcefully labeled Nadil Hasan a “Muslim, extremist, terrorist. End of story” may just have been an early sign of what’s to come. This week’s Time takes a similar, if not quite as strident tone, managing to slip a question mark in at end of the ‘terrorist’ label. As everyone in the blogosphere knows too well, shocking headlines and images sell. That said, at this point, all signs do appear to be pointing towards the conclusion that this was some sort of terrorist act. From the cover story:

What a surprise it must have been when Major Nidal Malik Hasan woke up from his coma to find himself not in paradise but in Brooke Army Medical Center, deep in the heart of Texas, under security so tight that there were armed guards patrolling both the intensive-care unit and checkpoints at the nearest freeway off-ramp. This was not the finalé he had scripted when he gave away all his earthly goods — his desk lamp and air mattress, his frozen broccoli and spinach, his copies of the Koran. He had told his imam he was planning to visit his parents before deploying to Afghanistan. He did not mention that his parents had been dead for nearly 10 years.

It is also looking very much like the aftermath of Fort Hood may see the end of political correctness, at least in regards to how it’s applied in the army (and possibly the media world).

But others are convinced that his religion protected him from stronger action by the Army. “He’d have to murder the general’s wife and daughter on the parade ground at high noon in order to get a serious reprimand,” says Ralph Peters, an outspoken retired Army lieutenant colonel who now writes military books and a newspaper column. While stressing “there shouldn’t be witch hunts” against Muslims in uniform, Peters insists that “this guy got a pass because he was a Muslim, despite the Army’s claim that everybody’s green and we’re all the same.” A top Pentagon official admits there may be some truth to the charge. “We’re wondering why some of these strange encounters didn’t trigger something more formal,” he says. “I think people were overly sensitive about Muslims in the military, and that led to a reluctance to say, ‘This guy is nuts.’ The Army is going to have to review their procedures to make sure someone can raise issues like this.”

    “TERRORIST?”

    What’s with the question mark?

Of course he was a terrorist. The silly hypothesis that his carefully-planned murderous rampage was a cry for help only leads me to the advice Mr. Hasan should have taken: “Physician, shoot thyself.”

Time needs a question mark? Regardless of religion, anyone that walks into a crowded room and starts shooting randomly is by definition a terrorist. And the fact that he is apparently a follower of radical Islam confirms that.

This is where the media trips over itself time and time again (pun very intended.)

This guy is a terrorist. Period. The Army let him slide on years of obvious activities because they were afraid of making Moslems angry. And the media has pushed that belief endlessly. On a global scale, Moslems get a break from the media and governments when they burn buildings and launch violent protests over some perceived insult. This is not a new thing. This has existed for decades.

Shame on Time for having zero courage and zero honesty. Their now motto should be, “Time Magazine – Afraid of the truth and willing to lie about it.”

  • Keeva Keeva says:

Oh, by the way, Glynnis, the media created the political correctness as regards violent Moslems when you gave them a pass for rioting over political cartoons, and when you ignored their lovely practice of “honor killings,” or when you lambasted the Department of Homeland Security for trying to keep an eye on our actual enemy.

So your paragraph about the end of political correctness is incorrect. The media created this. Now, if you are an honest person, you will acknowledge that. Sadly, I do not expect an outbreak of honesty from today’s media.

As an aside, I want to make it totally clear that not all Moslems are terrorists or even radical. Most – as in 99 percent – are good folks that just want to live their lives and raise a family. Same as every other group. However, that 1 percent of Moslems wants all Americans dead. And that is the problem with the media’s backflips to excuse violence by these people.

Note that within hours of the shootings, MSNBC had a flow of psychologists offering theories as to how this was not really Hasan’s fault. Most of the media followed suit. Making excuses for the radical Moslem that killed 12 and wounded 31.

Every definition of terrorism seems to agree that it is the unauthorized use of violence to achieve “political aims.”

There is no doubt Hasan’s actions were unauthorized and violent and his declaration of “Allah Akbah” just before the Fort Hood shootings makes his “political aim” quite clear. This phrase has been used in connection to numerous terrorist attacks in the past and found in notes connected with the 9/11 hijackers. In particular Mohammed Atta who wrote, “Shout, ‘Allahu Akbar,’ because this strikes fear in the hearts of the non-believers.”

    Ditto. Well said.

Which is why if this guy had been a Christian, he’d been a terrorist too. Just like the murderer of Dr Tiller, or the other Church-shooter who read Glenn Beck and wanted to kill everyone in Bernie Goldberg’s book.

It’s amazing to me that after all we’ve found out about this Muslim scumbag some people just can’t bring themselves to call him a terrorist. The liberal media will be politically correct to the end — even if it kills us all. It’s laughable what pussies we have in the media. Nobody wants to offend. Nobody wants to create a “backlash.” It’s time for a backlash against the people who worry about backlashes. I frankly don’t give damn if Muslims or anyone else is offended by calling Islamic terrorism by its name. I’m offended that millions of people around the world think it’s okay to murder people they disagree with in the name of Allah. I’m offended that millions of Muslims think it’s okay to commit cold-blooded murder over some cartoons in the newspaper. I’m offended that Muslim men think it’s okay to treat women like pieces of property they can kick around anytime they feel like it. I’m very offended that 3,000 of my countrymen were slaughtered on 9/11 by radical Muslims. I’m offended that Muslim “Americans” are not marching in the street condemning the Fort Hood massacre and every other atrocity that Muslims commit around the world almost daily. I’m offended that millions of Muslims hate Jews, Gays, and Infidels. I’m offended when American appeasers tell me not to offend people who have no right to be offended — I find it offensive.

    Agreed.

who read Glenn Beck and wanted to kill everyone in Bernie Goldberg’s book.

I hear he also ate at McDonalds once… DARN THEM and their terrorism inspiring Big Macs!

You were doing so well, M… and then the crazy snuck back in. Funny how you’re willing to ascribe certain things to certain people (blame Beck or a Republican/Conservative before all the facts are really known), but you want to “take it slow” in other situations (when political correctness might be to blame, or the person is in a “protected Liberal class”). Hypocrisy at it’s most obvious.

Glynnis, I count three different posts on this site calling Nidal Hasan “Nadil Hasan.” All written by you! Way to go Senior Editor!

  • TfT TfT says:

Yes he is a terrorist; as more and more information is released maybe even the liberal media will admit it. But then they will have to report that this is the first terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11 and they don’t want to go there, at least until they can figure out how to blame it on Bush/Cheney.

  • libra blue libra blue says:

@TfT, You won’t believe it, but tonight Anderson led off with a report that political correctness may have contributed to this massacre. I almost fell out of my chair! The 360 blog has blocked every one of my comments suggesting that very thing since Friday!

Wow, Did Glenn Beck Just Fail U.S History 101? (Video)

    your moment of glenn

In the course of explaining why the health care bill is not okay, and moreover goes against everything the Founders had in mind, Beck appears to mess up what most would consider basic junior high American history. I actually had to listen a couple of times to make sure I had heard right. Video and explanation after the jump.

Michael Moore Hates Obama’s Health Reform Bill

    video

Just because George W. Bush is no longer in the White House doesn't mean documentary filmmaker and activist Michael Moore is gushing over our current administration. In fact, the director of 2007's Sicko - about America's whacked-out health care - is vocally against President Barack Obama's proposed reform bill. So much so that if he were Dennis Kucinich, he'd only vote for the bill if Obama went on TV and told the country all the things the bill won't reform.
