Fox News Executive VP: U.S. Olympic Committee Would Like Team Motto to Be ‘Darker, Gayer, Different’ [UPDATE]

John Moody, Executive Editor and Executive VP of Fox News, penned an explosive opinion piece on Wednesday in which he seems to suggest that the US Winter Olympics team has made themselves “darker, gayer” at the expense of racking up medals.

“Unless it’s changed overnight, the motto of the Olympics, since 1894, has been ‘Faster, Higher, Stronger.’ It appears the U.S. Olympic Committee would like to change that to ‘Darker, Gayer, Different.’ If your goal is to win medals, that won’t work,” he wrote.

“No sport that we are aware of awards points – or medals – for skin color or sexual orientation.”

Moody went on to write this:

“So, while uncomfortable, the question probably needs to be asked: were our Olympians selected because they’re the best at what they do, or because they’re the best publicity for our current obsession with having one each from Column A, B and C?”

Next, he took on the “rainbow of political correctness” that he believes worked behind the shadows to gain unqualified athletes a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.

“Complaining that every team isn’t a rainbow of political correctness defeats the purpose of sports, which is competition,” he wrote. “At the Olympic level, not everyone is a winner. Not everyone gets a little plastic trophy to take home.”

UPDATE 1:40 p.m. ET — Fox News has removed Moody’s post. According to a statement given to The Hollywood Reporter, a Fox News spokesperson said, “John Moody’s column does not reflect the views or values of FOX News and has been removed.”
