JET BLUE

As if the current Republican presidential field wasn’t big enough, former New York Governor George Pataki is considering a campaign of his own, according to anonymous sources close to the former governor. But how well would he fare as a candidate? Pataki has been touted as a potential candidate for the past few months, but [...]

NYT Forced To Respond To Gov. Paterson ‘Bombshell’ Rumors

gal_frontpage_02_10_2010 Meta

Wow. Well welcome to the new, new journalism where even the New York Times editorial board is forced to go meta. Seriously meta. Apparently, the rumors about a Paterson, fueled in equal parts by the blogosphere and the venerable New York City tabloids, got so out of hand the Times felt they had to push back in a editorial blog post. They went straight to the source.

On Friday gossip was flying around New York media (and one imagines political) circles that the New York Times was working on some sort of bombshell story that was going to be so shocking that Paterson would be forced to resign! Apparently nothing that shocking exists.

n_patterson_speaks_080318.300w

Apparently the New York Times is working on some big shocking story about Gov. David Paterson‘s sex life. All things considered, namely what we already know about Paterson, the low expectations even the most starry-eyed among us must at this point have for anything having to do with Albany, and the general state of the personal lives of our politcos at the moment, one shudders at the thought of what currently qualifies as shocking.

Inside The White House Press Corps: NY Daily News‘ Ken Bazinet

The subject of today’s Inside the White House Press Corps is the New York Daily News’ Ken Bazinet, proprietor of the Mouth of the Potomac blog. He’s the guy in the briefing room who best fits the image of a hard-boiled reporter that we’ve all seen on TV. Here, he offers us his insights on covering the White House, and how Robert Gibbs is growing into the role of Press Secretary.

Someone Believes In Print; Daily News Spends $150 Mil. On Printing Plant

It’s difficult to follow print journalism these days without feeling bashed over the head by the irony of the term. Most of the big stories are either about closures or firings, and what positive news there is tends to be about innovative moves online.

But according to the New York Times, one man is doubling down on print: Daily News publisher Mort Zuckerman.

Slate Spoils Daily News’ Rapper-cum-Doctor Story; Bursts Blogosphere Bubble

Slate’s Ben Sheffner read the “feel good story of the summer” in the New York Daily Newsthe tale of how ’90s rapper Roxanne Shanté got the slippery suits at Warner Music to pay for her $200,000 Ph.D. education — but he couldn’t just be happy about it. Instead, he had to pretend to be a journalist (he writes for a website!) and check out the facts, thereby disproving the entire article in the process.

Is That a Halo? Rolling Stone‘s Somber Obama Cover

It may come as little surprise that the most recent Rolling Stone’s cover is getting more attention than the article itself. Illustrated by noted street-artist, cum graphic designer Shephard Fairey, the cover image features a much more serious image of the president than his iconic “Hope” campaign posters. But is he deifying the president by using imagery that evokes a halo? Some say yes. You can almost hear the talking points being crafted this very second…
