FishbowlDC gossip and media reporter Betsy Rothstein is, to put it mildly, a polarizing figure in Washington, DC. Despised by some for her role in Dave Weigel‘s Journolist-fueled career reorganization, dismissed by others as a petty gossip, she also enjoys a stealth legion of admirers who appreciate her hard work and Keyser Soze-like omnipresence. When word spread of my interview with Rothstein, “Team Betsy” emerged from the woodwork to weigh in, and the common theme was quickly evident: Betsy Rothstein is fearless.

The Daily Caller has emerged as a bona fide member of the internet right, in part by drawing refreshing distinction from a crowded landscape through its willingness to critique those whose ideas its right of center writers may share. The latest damning exposé revealing a member of Palin’s staff attacking fellow conservatives is merely one example that has sparked infighting among conservative bloggers, fueling a surprising zeal to slam its publisher, Tucker Carlson.

America awoke this morning to a new civil war– no, not in Libya (that one’s old by now) or Syria or Yemen, but on the internet, where Sarah Palin used her regular column on Facebook.com to trash conservative site The Daily Caller. How did the site that took down Ezra Klein’s Journolist become public enemy #1 for Lady Columbia herself? Simple: they deigned to publish a quote of hers in the second page of an article, where no one with Palin’s attention span would ever read it.

Seeking to make hay out of Willow Palin‘s Facebook misadventure, among other things, Bonnie Goldstein, Editor of Politics Daily’s “Woman Up” blog, writes that the Palin teens “lack supervision,” and that “Sarah Palin may want to budget a companionable nanny for the older children.”

While we predicted that some would level this attack, it seems counterintuitive that a blog devoted to women’s issues would not only see the Palin kids as fair game, but would then perpetuate the sexist notion that parenting is the sole purview of the mother. Todd Palin’s name never comes up.

First it was the Washington Post‘s Slate’s Dave Weigel, whose private emails got him temporarily fired and rehired by the same parent company (and a news network). Then it was Wired‘s Spencer Ackerman‘s “plate glass window” quote that became a DC meme. Now, Think Progress‘s Matt Yglesias tells Daily Caller reporter Jonathan Strong where he can go after inquiring about his tweets. Strong seems to want to make his name getting under the skin of Young Washington.

Defying the advice that it’s better to look for a job while employed, David Weigel is adding Slate to his growing list of jobs after resigning from the Washington Post at the beginning of the Journolist scandal.

In addition to his already announced work for MSNBC, Weigel is now under a one-year contact with WaPo’s corporate sibling Slate to be a political reporter and start a new politics blog, The Upshot’s Michael Calderone is reporting and Weigel confirmed in a tweet.

Most of the time it’s hard to muster sympathy for Sarah Palin when it comes to her treatment at the hands of the press; this is a woman who could teach an advanced course in media relations. In fact every day I wonder if she’s doing just that with her Facebook notes. However, when it comes to the ongoing, and inappropriate speculation about her youngest son Trig, I think she has a point.

Earlier this year, a juror in a high-profile case came forward with a shocking allegation: after reaching a verdict, her peers conspired to cover up her dissent and to develop an untrue representation of how their decisions were reached. As evidence, she presented a number of emails between the jurors. The New York Times carried the story that Monday on its front page, below the fold; CNN hosted the emails on its site.

The Daily Caller has published the latest of its Daily Journolist Leaks, and this time, the supposed liberal cabal is eating one of their own. Countdown host Keith Olbermann is the subject of this installment, in which the J-listers trash him as “sexist” and “misogynist,” mainly over his treatment of Carrie Prejean and Hillary Clinton. While I disagree with the Daily Caller’s publication of the emails, and their petulant handling thereof, this round also illustrates what pisses me off about Journolist and Olbermann.

After a storm of criticism against his site for its continued coverage of the now-defunct Journolist list-serve, Tucker Carlson has come out to defend his website, personally guaranteeing the necessary context is given, but won’t publish the complete archives because they are “banal” and contain a “high concentration of bitchiness.” Journolist owner Ezra Klein has responded by publishing some emails of his own.

The Journolist email roll-out continues at The Daily Caller, with supposed proof of an immediate push for a plan of attack after Sarah Palin was announced as Sen. John McCain‘s VP nominee.

Yesterday focused on attacks on Fox News – and one from a journalist who currently sits on the board at the White House Correspondents’ Association who could help decide whether FNC gets Helen Thomas‘ seat.

The liberal listserv in the news last month whose leaks forced a resignation from The Washington Post‘s Dave Weigel is back today.

Journolist emails about Rev. Jeremiah Wright from during the 2008 presidential election have been published by The Daily Caller. But do they reveal anything?

On today’s America Live, Megyn Kelly interviewed a real-life victim of MSNBC contributor Dave Weigel‘s furious private emails, radio host Hugh Hewitt. Hewitt, who Weigel called “buffoonish” in one of the emails leaked last week, fielded questions on Weigel, media bias, and the personal insults towards him, but while Kelly was consistently incensed at Weigel throughout the interview, Hewitt’s response was, at best, tepid.

Andrew Breitbart is going on another spending spree. Pockets heavy with the $100,000 no one collected in exchange for footage that Tea Party protesters shouted racial epithets at black Congressmen, he is now offering the same amount– as well as complete identity protection– to anyone that can find him the complete archives of the now-defunct JournoList, because “Why should Dave Weigel be the only person exposed and humiliated?”

And the Journolist story has come full circle.

Breaking his silence on the leaks and eventual resignation of his colleague Dave Weigel, Ezra Klein announced the end of Journolist – even though no one on it “did anything wrong.”

Under fire for leaked emails from Journolist critical of conservative publications and activists, The Washington Post‘s Dave Weigel has resigned as a blogger. The paper confirmed to Mediaite that he offered his resignation this morning and they accepted.

I wrote a piece of commentary about Joe Klein’s flame war with Glenn Greenwald yesterday in which I conceded Klein’s point about Greenwald’s publication of off-the-record emails. I also pointed out that Klein’s understanding of email confidentiality is shakier than a detoxing jackhammer operator. Rather than expressing appreciation for this turn of the tables, Greenwald had some reservations about the piece.

An online feud is heating up between Time’s Joe Klein and Salon’s Glenn Greenwald. Although the bad blood reaches back a stretch, at issue now is Greenwald’s publication of Klein’s off-the-record emails to the “Journolist.” Klein slammed Greenwald on Time’s Swampland blog: (h/t HuffPo)
