Last night, apparently jonesing for America’s approval real bad, Regis Philbin ventured back in front of the cameras in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. While there, he discussed his plans for his next project and even showed a clip which was…well, I don’t want to spoil all the fun so lets just say he did some work with the only two guys out there that people are more surprised to learn are still on the air.

Regis Philbin left his morning show after 28 years on Friday, and Saturday Night Live got busy replacing him the following night. Nasim Pedrad, playing Kelly Ripa, auditioned a slew of possible co-hosts, who ranged from Denzel Washington to Ashton Kutcher to Rosie O’Donnell.

Regis Philbin signed off after 28 1/2 years on television Friday morning, and right off the bat, things looked promising: a camera followed his “final walk” in black-and-white as some whimsical, sad piano music played as his soundtrack. He looked out the windows overlooking Manhattan on the fifth floor’s elevator lobby and gave a sad wave and a, “Goodbye, New York,” before heading downstairs to get Kelly Ripa in her dressing room. They held hands, headed to the studio floor, and Regis seemed to be getting a little choked up before they emerged to a standing ovation from a celebrity-packed audience.

Last January, Regis Philbin announced that he would be stepping down as host of Live, the venerable morning show he’s been hosting since 1985. His final date wasn’t ever set and original plans for it to be sometime this summer were delayed. However, today during the first episode of the show’s fall season, Philbin made things official; his last day as host will be Friday, November 18th.

A recent study in Korea has been released that claims to find a correlation between the length of the index finger on a man’s right hand and the length of his penis. If the index finger is shorter than the man’s ring finger, there’s a good chance his penis may be longer. I know what you just did. Yes, you the reader. If you are a man, upon reading the previous two sentences, you quickly looked at your own hand to see how you measure up.

Betty White, increasingly the favorite TV personality of ironic hipsters the world over, sat in for Kelly Ripa on Regis and Kelly.

Regis Philbin is old. Super old. Like, “Jesus Christ was my camp counselor” old. So it’s no surprise that when Jersey Shore stars Jenni “JWoww” Farley and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi
showed up on Live with Regis & Kelly this morning, Reeg didn’t quite know what to make of them.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper thinks Democrats should look out for surprise Delaware GOP candidate Christine O’Donnell. “The night it happened a lot of Democrats were saying, ‘Oh this is great for the Democratic party,’ but you look at the polls, and I don’t think anyone should count her out,” he said.

We talked to Cooper today at the Intrepid in New York City for a Guinness World Record breaking event that will air tomorrow when he co-hosts Live with Regis and Kelly.

Piers Morgan filled in for Regis Philbin today on Live With Regis And Kelly, and it didn’t take long for Kelly Ripa to bring up the CNN situation.

“Speaking of people replacing people,” began Ripa, urging Morgan to “tell us now, give us the scoop, oh friend of mine.” He didn’t – but that didn’t stop Ripa from reading between the lines.

Remember how the storyline when Conan O’Brien hosted the Tonight Show was that he could win in the younger demographics but would lose in total viewers?

Well, after a first week back of big ratings and victories over CBS, Jay Leno and the new old Tonight Show lost to David Letterman in the demos Monday night.

Since Conan O’Brien left as host of The Tonight Show, former sidekick Andy Richter has been laying pretty low. Well good news Team Conan! The affable television start reappeared on our television sets this morning, fitting in quite wonderfully alongside Kelly Ripa as guest host in place of Regis Philbin. Of course, the topic of the late night debacle came up and, shockingly, Richter did not demur. In fact, he sort of gave a remarkably frank, candid and pointed take on the whole mess, and still came out looking good. Video after the jump.

Vanity Fair has released its 2009 Best-Dressed List. Does anybody care? It wasn’t that long ago that these sorts of lists, from publications like Vanity Fair, were powerful measures of a star’s clout, or their clout-to-be as the case may have been. Not so much anymore. We’re so saturated by Hollywood images these days it’s a bit like reading last year’s magazine.

There are just some things you don’t ask a lady — like, say, asking “Bachelorette” Jillian Harris how many of the guys on the show she slept with. But that’s’ just what Anderson Cooper did while filling in on Regis & Kelly earlier this week. But should Cooper — who famously refuses to answer questions about his personal life — have the right to ask?
