BREAKING: Ricky Gervais Explains The “Missing Hour” At The Golden Globes

British comic Ricky Gervais, whose performance as MC of the Golden Globes Sunday night earned far more attention that the award winners, has just released a statement through his publicist regarding the “missing hour” when Gervais seemed to vanish mid-show, sparking conspiracy theory-making on Twitter: did Ricky just get fired…or worse?

Gervais’ opening monologue may have sent celebs squirming in the hall, but it didn’t get him yanked, even for an hour. Katie Phillips, Gervais’ publicist, has just released a statement, saying the hour was planned in advance, and had more to do with comedy than conspiracy:

From Ricky:
“I did every single introduction I was meant to. There just happened to be a long gap. This is because I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance. I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for. (And who I knew had a good sense of humour)

Everyone took it well and the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great.”

Ahhhhhh, Mediaite, it was just another silly Hollywood awards show; stop making it into television pioneering spectacular. That’s what Gervais was making fun of.

True. There are a gazillion articles on the Golden Globes, and yet the show was predictable and it was basically Hollywood patting itself on the back.

Although, the Social Network and definately Inception deserved to pat themselves on the back. Two of the best films of the year.

Ricky Gervais….Richard Gervasi….Could they be the same person? This might be a better explanation of the missing hour.

Sorry, I spent my money on “The Tourist” and “Sex in the City II.”

It is probably I who should say sorry to you. I feel bad for anyone who had to sit through “Sex and the City 2″.

Seriously, man, what’s with Mediaite’s obsession with a stupid awards show and this guy in particular? Isn’t this like the fifth story this morning about this clown? I gotta admit, I have no idea who he is, but then again Lloyd Bridges will always be Mike Nelson to me.

Oh, heck! I was hoping that what happened during the Golden Globe “missing hour” would become the stuff of urban legend.

Like Roswell, NM and Donald Trump’s hair.

I was just kidding. I hear those two movies are now used by the CIA as part of their interrogation routine.

I don’t know how a producer can read some of the scripts and make this kind of trash, but if you knew the back-story on some movies, you would be truly astonished.

For example, did ya know that the actor first chosen to play Axel Foley in “Beverly Hills Cop” was Sly Stallone?

Also, Gene Hackman was first chosen to play the lead in”The Silence of the Lambs.” Now that would have been interesting.

Way to scoop Piers Morgan, who was hoping to embargo the answer to this question.

Seriously, though, there’s always a gap. NPH disappeared for an hour, too. The host gets a break; it’s a long show.
