Chelsea Handler Mocks Time‘s Person Of The Year: ‘There’s An Issue You Can Skip’

During a rundown of the latest news on Wednesday night’s Chelsea Lately, host Chelsea Handler went over Time‘s naming of The Protester as its “Person of the Year.” She did not seem impressed.

“So, there’s an issue you can skip,” she said, before pausing and adding, “I am happy, at least it’s not a Kardashian.”

Comedian Ben Gleib, one of her guests on the panel, countered Handler’s position, saying that The Protester was “a great choice” for the honor because, due to his involvement with the Occupy protests, “I am Person of the Year.”

Handler uttered, “Oh God, here we go again,” when Gleib mentioned his involvement with the Occupy movement, then made a case for Herman Cain as Person of the Year. “I wanted him back,” she said. “I miss him.”

Gleib still persisted on the Occupy movement deserving part of the honor, telling Handler that he thinks it’s going to grow into next year. “Well it’s December, so probably… Nostradamus, thank you,” she replied.

Saying that the Occupy movement has a lot of great goals and causes, Gleib then added that the protests, “have amazing weed.” Actress Natasha Leggero, also on the panel, scolded him to not say that. “It doesn’t need more bad press.”

“I’m not going to deny it,” Gleib responded. “I’m reporting the truth!”

Handler then moved on to Donald Trump’s nixed debate:

“It’s like having a really lame Christmas party and the two biggest losers RSVP yes, and then you have to cancel the party.”

“At least it’s not a Kardashian”  Funny!  Here is the real TIME Person of the Year, who also happens to be TIME Mother of the Year (she’s an OWSer)

Chelsea Handler is the least talented member of cast.  She does’nt give much of an interview,  less so if you happen to be male.  In fact, she’ll probably chew you out.  It may be schtickl but, all her black male guests seem to get a pass, as long as they tolerate her cringeworthy flirting. One of the more talented cast members,(and the shows top writer) Guy Branum, was fired after taking issue with Ms Chandler’s dating the rapper 50 cent.  Cent has been known to utter some homophobic lyrics and Branum happens to be gay.

I just glanced over her concert dates and the comments of several who have seen her perform live.  Her reviews were less than enthusiastic ranging from”horribly unfunny” to “she was so drunk or high that she was’nt funny and very slurred”.  I think most of the other talent on her show is quite good.  It’s too bad you have to tolerate the over rated Handler to see them.

•Time magazine’s “person of the year” has been an absolute joke most years, and generally just reinforces their collective political alignment as a publication…

mediaite’s definitely covered this shitty show before, except before i think it was called redeye.

In what perverse universe is lunatic-left Time magazine relevant for anything ?

  • Anonymous

That is Chelsea’s schtick. You don’t go to Handler’s show expecting intellectual debate.

Also, if you have a problem with 50, then I hope you’re attacking the whole rap culture that constantly uses the N-word and denigrates women, among other things in their lyrics.

I actually like Chelsea more for her stance on the Time piece. Now I care .0000001% about what she has to say.

Who’s Chelsea Handler  is she married to someone interesting?

I agree with you about Handler. I find her totally annoying and I will never watch her show. Whenever she’s a guest on the Tonight Show I fast forward my DVR recording to skip her segment.

she used to date Ted Harbert, who now is chair of NBC.  He used to head up E!’s programming which I am am sure was a complete coincidence to Handler getting a show there.

Keep in mind, these are the same people that made the murderer Arafat person of the year. So much for any validity by Time.

She’s mostly, repulsive, on every level.

I think she’s doing that ugly little midget. No…not whoopie!

TIME is providing some much needed acknowledgement to the
importance of protest.  The Occupy and
Arab Spring Movements are NECESSARY for our citizens to expose the corruption
which Big Business has infected our Government with.  Every single person occupying the streets and
protesting Corporations is a hero and a patriot.  I was compelled to lend a hand and create
some new posters for the movement which you can download for free on my
    artist’s blog at

Really?Really? The Whole “rap culture” “denigrates Women”

I take it you never heard of:

    Talib Kweli’s “For Women”
    Paris “Assata Song”
    Tupac “Keep your head Up”
    Ludacris “Runaway”
    Jean Grae “My Story”
    Illogic “First Trimester”
    MURS “The break-up”

I could go on but that should be sufficient enough

At least they’re not brain dead. Your post highlights that tragedy if a very compelling fashion.

  • Anonymous

Then why do you care? Why did you come here to read this story?

  • Anonymous

WC, I can only disappove of music that I’ve actually heard.  I would have real misgivings about attacking (or censoring) the whole rap culture.  If rap artists wish to use certain words, they have that right. Sadly, I often see it used to simply be provocative or outrageous.  I don’t care for denigrating or objectifying women (or anyone) in a way that demeans, controls, or dominates them.  Certainly, it’s being done, but not by everyone.

Some see eroticism as denigrating.  I don’t necessarily see it that way. It depends on how it’s presented.

I’m 50 years old, rap culture is not my most familiar territory.  I have seen examples of rap music where violence is decried and it can be used, quite rightly, as social criticism.  In fairness, I can only judge them as I hear them.

    I remember when TIME honored the Tea Party… oh… wait… never mind…

    Yes. His mother/aunt and father/uncle.

All you saying that she slept her way to the top are lacking a lot of common sense. She was on tv on another show before even starting to date Ted. On top of that, even IF she got the show due to who she was dating, that doesn’t account for her having the highest ratings on E! . And NBC came to her wanting to do the new show, not the other way around.

In regards to the people who don’t find her funny: As Jenny McCarthy said once, either you are on her wavelength or not. If you’re not, you don’t get the appeal AT ALL. But, if you are lucky enough to be on her same wavelength you feel like you are watching your best friend. So to those of you who get it, consider yourselves lucky and to those of you who don’t, in the words of Chelsea, SUCK IT!
