Chris Cuomo Confronts Rep. Steve King For Citing Right-Wing Conspiracy Blog in Diamond and Silk Hearing
Chris Cuomo pressed Rep. Steve King on CNN Friday over his participation in the circus that was Diamond and Silk’s testimony before Congress over alleged Facebook censorship.
Diamond and Silk, real names Lynnette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson, are two pro-Trump vloggers whose claims that Facebook censored them for their conservative views earned them a hearing on Capital Hill on Thursday (though, their claims were debunked last week).
King participated giddily in the hearing, using posts from right-wing conspiracy blog Gateway Pundit to back Diamond and Silk’s claims. To uninitiated, Gateway Pundit is a blog that is getting sued for claiming that the terror attack in Charlottesville was staged.
Cuomo confronted King about this on New Day, grilling the Iowa Republican on why he did not question Diamond and Silk’s false claims that Facebook did not reach out to them to resolve issues they had with their page on the social media platform.
“Chris, I have a completely different view on this, but I will examine your information,” King said. “But I’m also going to ask you to examine mine. The information I introduced into the record yesterday.”
“From the Gateway Pundit?” Cuomo fired back.
“Yes the charts that are there,” King said. “There are charts. It doesn’t matter whose fingerprints are on them, facts are facts.”
“The Gateway Pundit is an arbiter of facts?” an incredulous Cuomo asked. “Come on Steve.”
“Wait a minute, you can’t reject everything he does because you disagree with him on one story,” King protested, referring to Gateway Pundit founder Jim Hoft.
“I don’t take him seriously enough to check it,” Cuomo said. “That’s why I’m concerned that a member of Congress wants to enter in what he’s talking about into the congressional record.”
“This is part of the congressional record, it is official,” King noted, to which Cuomo lamented, “I know, you put it there.”
