Dana Perino: ‘Occupy Wall Street’ Should Love Our Country’s Economic System Or Leave It!

On Wednesday’s edition of The Five, panelist Dana Perino spoke out against the Occupy Wall Street movement, questioning what they really wanted and telling them if they didn’t like America’s economic system they could leave. “I don’t understand, what do they want? They want a different system? There are places in the world with different systems and they are welcome to immigrate to those if they want.”

Seething with contempt, The Five‘s conservative hosts went on a full-fledged assault against the Occupy Wall Street protestors. Greg Gutfeld called the media coverage “nauseating.”

“If you read the AP article of the event, they actually compared it to the Vietnam protest, the ’60s, the sexual revolution. They never said anything as complimentary about the tea party,” Gutfeld fussed. “I want to be clear about the Wall Street protest. These people are in favor of the Administration. They are not giving it to the man. They are the man. That’s the joke. They’re saying this is organic — this is manufactured!”

“They’re blocking traffic!” panelist Eric Bolling piled on. “People are trying to go to work. People have families and kids. They have to go to work and earn a living and put kids in school.”

Not to be outdone by the others’ anti-Occupy Wall Street disses, Andrea Tantaros dropped a Solyndra (!) reference into the mix. “I saw a woman holding a sign that said, ‘Honk if you have student loans!’” Tantaros exclaimed. “Did anyone tell protesters unlike Solyndra they have to pay back their student loan?”

Sounding like a conservative caricature on South Park, usual voice of reason Dana Perino topped them all by telling demonstrators they could go to another country if they didn’t like America’s economic system.

This utter trashing of Occupy Wall Street by Fox News commentators is hilarious if you remember how they promoted-nay-trumpeted the tea party protests. It’s fascinating how the media narrative at Fox has evolved from the protestors being harmless, smelly hippies to traffic-blocking, agitator shills for Obama that should leave the country if they don’t like Wall Street.

Seriously!!!? How do you know what we want? Why don’t you try listening? Things are much much
more complex than that! Have you ever tried to solve a Financial
Derivative? Did you forget about our government’s shortcomings when
addressing the debt ceiling? And, the corresponding deficiencies our
Legislative and Executive branch have personified? Not to mention, the
most recent unemployment figures? And the most sustained protest
movement since the 1980s concerning the Tar Sands Pipeline and
environmental debate associated with that? The people there don’t have
one single demand because there is not one single problem to address.
Ask anyone around there what is wrong with this country and they’ll give
you a different answer. Perspective and level of understanding is funny
like that. Therein lies the point! How do you
summarize the problems associated with this country into one line? You
can’t! However, despite the complex variety of grievances there is at
least one thread that ties it all together. And that is: The broken
infrastructure our country is displaying! Corporations and the
Government alike have proven its’ inability to address the will of the
people time and time again! At least there are people exercising their
constitutional right for once! Can’t you even give them that much
credit? The whole point is to actively address the issues facing this
country and initiate a SERIOUS discussion for once that is not tossed
under a rug due in large part by biased mass-media representatives like
    yourself. This is absolutely absurd!

So… let’s see. If it’s a bunch of under-educated older folks who can’t spell, haven’t read a single book on history not written by Glenn Beck, learned everything they know from talk radio and constantly whine using vague platitudes like “freedom” and “my country,” then it’s okay if they say that Wall Street and congress is corrupt.

But if a group of mostly young protesters say basically the same thing about Wall Street and congress, only they’re not clearly affiliated with the extreme right wing of Republican Party, then they must be astro-turfed commie Muslim coward iPad-loving hoodlums.

    Pure cognitive dissonance.

THIS IS WHAT A MOB LOOKS LIKE

I am not the first to note the vast differences between the Wall Street
protesters and the tea partiers. To name three: The tea partiers have
    jobs, showers and a point.

No one knows what the Wall Street protesters want — as is
typical of mobs. They say they want Obama re-elected, but claim to hate
“Wall Street.” You know, the same Wall Street that gave its largest
campaign donation in history to Obama, who, in turn, bailed out the
banks and made Goldman Sachs the fourth branch of government.

This would be like opposing fattening, processed foods, but
cheering Michael Moore — which the protesters also did this week.

But to me, the most striking difference between the tea
partiers and the “Occupy Wall Street” crowd — besides the smell of
patchouli — is how liberal protesters must claim their every gathering
    is historic and heroic.

They chant: “The world is watching!” “This is how democracy looks!” “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for!”

At the risk of acknowledging that I am, in fact, “watching,” this is most definitely not how democracy looks.

Sally Kohn, a self-identified “community organizer,” praised
the Wall Street loiterers on CNN’s website, comparing the protest to the
Boston Tea Party, which she claimed, “helped spark the American
Revolution,” adding, “and yes, that protest ultimately turned very
    violent.”

Still waiting for you to explain the lies. Or did ya just make it up again?

Nobody really likes our corporatist system. The problem with the uneducated Wall Street Protesters is that they want to take our failed lite socialist system (keynesian economics) and make it far worse by injecting more socialism into it. They want to take something that is poisoned and give it more poison. Like a cancer victim that thinks the only way to cure himself is to drink the blood of an Aids victim. There is a reason the vast majority of the country views the WSP’s as the spoild child at Toys R US and nothing more. If they argued for real solutions and called for true capitalism, a system that will still allow you to become rich and to do so on a fair playing feild free from overbearing government regualtions and unfair government hand outs, i might have joined them. But they don’t, so I won’t. The WSP’s are nothing more than drones advocating for total government control because they simply don’t know any better.

  • insideguy

I find it all very interesting. I mean no matter what side you are on its something to behold. This movement is starting to pick up and with the Tea party leaders(Bachman, Palin) fading into the background and the movement itself stalled for the time being , this opposite movement springs up. They come from different sides of the coin but are they really that different? Some of the goals they have are similar some not. Both of them organically come from middle class movements but complain about different things. I think in the end it shows that the middle class is pissed and feel that their ability to make economic progress in this country has been curtailed. They just have different opinions about why it is happening.

Hey I hope Johnny never runs into Roseanne!

OCCUPY HOLLYWOOD & VINE! Reader Paul Schauder writes:

In this month’s Vanity Fair, Johnny Depp admits he’s overpaid. Roughly $300 MM from the Pirates series.
Coincidentally there’s a lawsuit being filed against a studio by unpaid interns for exploitation and breach of contract I think.
Anyway, maybe this is a good time to create a law stating that no-one
involved with the making of a movie can make more than 10x the lowest
    person’s salary.
And that all participants must have an equal share of profits.
Maybe we should Occupy Hollywood and Vine.

I like it. Somebody needs to come up with a “worker-friendly” labor
law reform package for the motion picture industry, and attach it to
everything. It can go along with my list of Hollywood-related revenue-enhancement measures.

You’ve got a point. Teabaggers were way better. They only held up racist signs and made not-so-vague threats about revolting against the United States because the “guvment come and taking our guns.” Of course, they were also so kind and patient when it came to actually listening to the details of the healthcare law, and they never ever disrupted town hall meetings at the behest of conservative groups only to repeat misleading demagogic talking points meant to distract and scare people. Remember those death panels the TPers were never talking about? Also, they never made death threats to anyone (http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/04/twitterraid/) and the representatives they elected in Congress never pushed the U.S. to its S&P downgrade. Remember when the S&P never, ever specifically called out the Republicans in the House in its statement on why the U.S. had been downgraded?

Lastly, one thing I truly admire about Teabaggers is that they really value education and honest debate, and they’re absolutely sure not to dismiss anyone out of hand whom they’ve been told is an intellectual Marxist, like academics (climatologists, etc) or major “lamestream” news agencies. Teabaggers would never just dismiss people whom they disagree with pointless, childish insults instead of debating the facts. They love facts!!! All they want to do is debate, not whine and cry and insult people like little spoiled babies. The Teabags are the very picture of open mindedness and intellectual curiosity, unlike this worthless hippie trash on Wall Street, no? Am I right, fellers?

    Fellers?

  • Lt. Cpl. Strangedick

Where were the Teabaggers then? Nowhere until Obama was elected. They certainly weren’t making headway in October, November or December 2008.

Maybe these protesters, like most Americans, were caught off guard by what happened in 2008 and then waited and watched with increasing unbelief as corrupt politicians (mostly on the right but clearly in both parties) have fought tooth and nail to protect their rich friends and benefactors from rolling back regulations and taxes to what they were in the decades when the American middle class was actually prosperous. Possibly, they’ve seen the Republicans recently try absurdly to justify raising tax rates back to what they were in the 1990s, arguing that would ruin the economy and that the money should come from social programs. Maybe they know that the Tea Party candidates elected last year are truly stupid individuals who have nothing to offer but vague promises about giving back our “freedom” from the “Muslim” “terrorist” “Marxist” Obama–when they never said a word against Bush. I think it may just be that the right’s hypocrisy (and left’s) is so obvious now that even someone who only casually follows the news can see through it.

Wherever you think they should be protesting instead, I’m sure they’ll be there soon.

Excellent point. My guess is that most of the current protestors don’t claim to have all the answers. They’re just expressing dissatisfaction with the direction the country has been going in and making sure those in power know they won’t take it sitting down. Sounds a lot like the sincere folks in the Tea Party doesn’t it?
What needs to happen IMO is the average citizens need to communicate and find some common ground to bring about some changes. Stopping the flood of corporate money into our elections is one place.
I think liberals and conservatives could agree on many points of fiscal responsibility if the communications was honest and fact based rather than political propaganda based.

I mean it’s one thing for conservatives to say that the Left is driven by mob rule and class envy….but the point is made much more effectively by these Occupy Wall Street protesters.  Every day they take to the streets, Obama’s re-election chances become more and more remote.

NO…  have you been watching what is going on in over the last few weeks? Things are only going to get worse and the president’s thinly veiled scheme to try and pass blame to the republicans in the house will not work. You’ll be disappointed to know that you won’t be able to find anything to back up your timeline. Wikipedia outlines the history, with citations, and everything started in 2009, right after Obama took office. The infamous Santelli rant that made the idea mainstream was in Feb. 2009.

    From the article:
On January 24, 2009, Trevor Leach, chairman of the Young Americans for Liberty in New York State organized a “Tea Party” to protest obesity taxes proposed by New York Governor David Paterson and call for fiscal responsibility on the part of the government. Several of the protesters wore Native American headdresses similar to the band of 18th century colonists who dumped tea in Boston Harbor to express outrage about British taxes.[37]Some of the protests were partially in response to several Federal laws: the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008,[38] the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009,[39][40] and a series of healthcare reform bills.[41]New York Times journalist Kate Zernike reported that leaders within the Tea Party credit Seattle blogger and conservative activist Keli Carender with organizing the first Tea Party in February 2009, although the term “Tea Party” was not used.[42] Other articles, written by Chris Good of The Atlantic[43] and NPR’s Martin Kaste,[44] credit Carender as “one of the first” Tea Party organizers and state that she “organized some of the earliest Tea Party-style protests”.

If these protestors spent half the time on studying, interning, job searches and networking, they might actually have a job. My nephew worked his tale off to get an engineering degree from a top university, sent out a hundred resumes, agreed to move from Chicago to Texas for a job and got many numerous high paying job offers. He comes from a middle to low income family. It is sad that now working hard and providing for your family is the bad thing to do.

The real problem is there hasn’t been any.  For all the “He’s a Marxist/Muslim/Commie/Anarchist/Antichrist” snowjob that has been pushed on the dimwits for 3 years, he’s about 99% as bought and paid for by Wall Street as Bush was.  Like Bush, he’s fast to open the Fed to bail out any corporate or banking interest, but could not risk an ounce of political capital on behalf of the middle class or working class.   His foreign policy has been so much like Bush’s he’s been repeatedly praised by former Bush officials, including Cheney.

So to answer how that Change thing is working, there hasn’t been any and won’t be any as long as corporate money buys all the deregulation, legislation and politicians on both sides of the aisle.

Oh wait, somebody tried that once somewhere around 1978……..wonder how that turned out?

Because the Tea Party wants the government to follow the Constitution. OWS wants to tear it up. Simple really.

Dana Perino…..  Just another right wing extremist bimbo who is dumb enough to tie her personal fate to twisted skewed GOP ideologies that never cross paths with reality.  People like Dana and Tony Snow are the quintessential republican sheep who toe the party line of stupidity for the GOP and Fox fake news.

The definition of insanity is continually doing the same thing and expecting different results. The economics for the middle class began to turn downwards in the early 1970′s and policies of the government and corporations for the last 40 years has given us what we have today. If America has the best system it is still folly to expect it to remain an economic power and have a thriving middle class without adjusting our system to meet today’s global market. We do not have a private free market anymore, it is Corporatist economy in which our government paves the way for multinational companies to make huge profits and bail them out when they fail. These folks protesting are not low lives or socialists but  in many cases are frustrated middle class folks that have worked hard that see no future and college graduates that have borrowed thousands of dollars for their degree and have no opportunity at meaningful employment. All you have to know that the total debt for college loans is now higher than debt on credit cards. This is when people take to the street. Egypt is a prime example. An educated generation of folks that seek a middle class life and absolutely no jobs. For you to say it the best system like or leave it is shallow and lacks any thought

I wouldn’t make that connection, especially if you support the Wall Street protesters.

The French Revolution was… eherm… dicey.

Did you read that part of history were the French came to the aid of the faltering American Revolution as they hated the British as much as the American founding fathers.  The French brought their troops, guns, warships and gifts of money all free of charge to the founding fathers.  Without French help it would have been the floundering fathers.

And I don’t disagree. My objection here is the unfair trashing of one group of citizen protesters while vehemently defending another. The OWS, and the Tea Party protestors may not agree on exactly what the solutions are but they seem to agree that our elected officials aren’t even headed toward them. It’s how we push the conversation forward. By not sitting back and letting them bullshit us again and again. It’s a positive thing for working class citizens, and should be appreciated as such IMO.

The balanced budget one is the most obvious. I’m not saying I disagree, I’m just saying the Tea Party also called for fundamental change in how things are done. Just trying to keep the perspective and rhetoric somewhat accurate.

Let’s be real. Dimwits like “Texan” come to Mediaite *specifically* to show their ignorance.

I’m not entirely sure what they get out of it, but there are so many here they must getting their ya-yas off somehow.

Far be it from me to drag you out of the darkness, but the only risk of losing the election that Obama faces is if the center-left doesn’t show up at the polls next year.

Teepers are generally despised by the majority; the rest of the Republicans have been forced to support literally insane Teeper policies or risk getting primaried out of their seats, and have no coherent policies to offer; and the Republican slate of candidates is collectively as weird as suspenders on a snake.

However, if the center-left doesn’t show up, the nutbag right might prevail.

Occupy Wall Street excites the center-left. It gives a vision of a reckoning and a public shaming of the greedy shits who trashed the world’s economy. It energizes the center-left.

We really don’t care if the nutbag right doubles down on its fevered resentment. More power to ya.

  • expatpatriot

Keep up that resentment! It’ll eat your guts and cause you to die before your time. A win-win for everyone.

So people dare not disagree in this country and protest something they find wrong? Really?

My ass, the only parts of the CONstitution that tea-baggers give a damn about are the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 10th Amendments.  I have dumb ass tea-baggers on my street and they are quick to bump their gums about this and that.  One day, out of the blue, I asked one of them to tell me what the 8th Amendment, (which prohibits the federal government from imposing excessive bails, excessive fines or cruel and unusual punishments) says.  His response was that he didn’t have his pocket edition with him and he’d get back to me later. Now, what about Occupying Wall Street and tearing up the constitution?  Post your evidence or shut the fck up

I truly think this is a funny.  But on top, I really appreciate the irony of hearing from the liberal misogynist crowd.
