Media Matters Has Chosen Its Next Media Target: [Whoever Gets Beck's 5 P.M. Slot On Fox]

Why wait for a name? The left-leaning media watchdog group Media Matters is looking at Donald Trump and his burgeoning birtherism, but with Glenn Beck‘s Fox News show slated for “transition,” Media Matters is gearing up for a new fight. Against, well, whoever gets that 5 p.m. slot on Fox. “We monitor Beck’s 5 p.m. show on Fox. Whoever is in at 5 p.m., we’re still going to monitor,” executive vp Ari Rabin-Havt, the No. 2 executive at Media Matters, told The Hollywood Reporter. “The likelihood is whoever is on at 5 p.m. is going to be a source of conservative misinformation.”

As THR reports, Media Matters operates with a tier hierarchy, dividing up media targets and staffing them accordingly:

Media Matters — which operates on a $14 million budget, up from $9 million two years ago (financial backers have included billionaire George Soros, film producer Steve Bing and TV producer Marcy Carsey) — employs 86 people, many of whom make up teams of a half-dozen people who monitor 24 TV shows daily and dozens of radio shows.

The group puts various media personalities and entities into separate “tiers” depending on the amount of “conservative misinformation” each spreads and to what degree they influence the debate.

Fox News is the biggest target and accounts for 55% of what Media Matters complains about. But the group’s Tier 1 also consists of Breitbart, Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal and WorldNetDaily.

So watch out, host-to-be-named-later, MM’s on to you. And they’ll be watching.

I love how liberal resources go to slander conservatives and libertarians in the media instead of towards promoting liberal ideas about solving the problems of the day. It says a lot about the quality of those ideas.

  • errxn

Yeah, they “monitor” the programs. Right.

  • notsofast

    LOL

Media Matters reminds me of the rooster who would crow each morning, watch the sun come up and tell the rest of the chickens “I caused the sun to rise.”

You kidding? Democrits have NEVER been able to meet opposition in a legitimate debate………….Liberal policies can’t stand the test of logic or produce any history of good results. Leftism is bankrupt of intellect.

Just look at the posts here. Conservatives write of concern for America and whether a policy will have a positive or negative effect on our nation. Democrits call names.

Such a nice group of open minded folks, aren’t they?

  • Barack Must Go

If I were ” FOX NEWS “, I’d definitly move Shep Smith to that time slot the day after Beck leaves.

  • Probably NOT wrong

    Media Matters??? Oh Shit!
David Brock? OMG! Rachel Maddow has a higher
testestorone reading than that ugly little creep.

    Which is Glenn Beck…

  • Dave Richards

    Media Matters doesn’t matter.

  • tigerprez

Media Matters “took down” Glenn Beck in the same sense that conservative watchdog groups “took down” Matt Lauer, Katie Couric, and Meredith Viera. Media Matters couldn’t create gas after a bean dinner.

That said, their delusions of grandeur make for hilarious entertainment. Jon Stewart has nothing on them.

  • slickerwick

Media Matters–fascistic thugs who hate free speech and alternate points of view. For them such concepts are doubleplusungood.

“The likelihood is whoever is on at 5 p.m. is going to be a source of conservative misinformation.”

One of the most ignorant statements ever made.

“Media Matters — which operates on a $14 million budget”

DAMN! Think of all the abortions that could have bought for the lefties.

How can any organization whose purpose is to highlight news media inaccuracies be taken seriously when they then declare “war” on a network due to ideological differences?

Because to them, any view that isn’t Progressive is AUTOMATICALLY a lie. Conservative and Libertarian views hold absolutely no Academic value to them, because they tend to be simple and obvious. They DON’T advance complex theories, and they don’t give “proper” weight to international schools of thought.

Rank-and-file Progressives want the world handed to them on a plate, and they want it right now. Conservatism says “You can’t have it given to you. Go out and earn it.”, after they’ve been told all their life that Government can give it to them, and give it to them now, and that there’s always more for them whenever they want it.

Beck has been saying for at least 18 months now that “Your standard of living is coming to an end”, and nobody wants to hear that, and of course no Progressive will ever believe that. Well, they’ll believe that the standard of the rich will come to an end, but never that theirs will. That’s not what they’ve been taught, what they’ve been PROMISED all their lives.

As far as why they need to paint every single non-Progressive (with absolutely no exceptions) as racists and bigots (even those who are minorities) , I really do not know.

hmm, I guess there is a job I would not do to feed my family…

It’s a media watchdog group, dumbass. They’re not a think tank.

Thought conservatives thought abortion was murder? Oops. Good old conservative hate. Gotta love it. Thank God conservatives are never going to win on the abortion issue. Roe V. Wade is going to be the law of the land forever.

    So get used to it.

Ok, the first step to being taken seriously is to not quote Glenn Beck. Second, conservatism does not say “You can’t have it given to you”. Conservatism says that gays and lesbians don’t deserve equal status in society, that the poor are lazy and stupid and that people who don’t agree with them are going to BURN FOR ALL ETERNITY IN A LAKE OF FIRE AND SULFUR.

Now, really. Which is worse? Progressives saying conservatives are racists? Or conservatives saying all non-Christians will burn for eternity in hell fire? And yes, that’s exactly what most conservatives believe, because most conservatives are religious conservatives.

    I.e., they’re fucking nuts.

How about triggering a ratings freefall….bring back Alan Colmes. eeewww! making myself sick.

They need not consider being taken seriously with their gullible following, they don’t have to care about that. Also, generating revenue is not too important with the bankrollers they have backing them. And, we know they are void of ethics. I just wonder why they can be so bold to announce in advance what they intend to do, handing their opposition even more reason to discount, in advance, what garbage they crank out. Ego getting ahead of them?

Gloating. Who’s going to stop them? Nobody even tries to counter them, because they’re so deathly afraid that opposing them will “play right into their hands”. That’s what led to you letting Progressives have all the power in the first place. Letting them say whatever they wanted, without ever speaking up for yourselves. You can’t really blame them for winning every last war of words when you don’t say a damned thing except the words you allow them to put into your mouths.

You know what they say: “Nobody Matters at Media Matters”.

Personally, I’ve slugged it out for a number of years, but I understand what you are saying. Every time we do get someone that speaks up they are demonized as kooks and extremists and the right side of the aisle shrinks back. Hope for the sake of my grandchildren and great-grands we get it drastically turned around. Line in the sand, no more, bullies have fallen out of favor.

What liberal think tank has been created in the last 10 years that has a 14 million dollar budget, 86 staffers, and puts out several articles a day? You can’t name one. I’ll resist acting like a 5 year old and not call you a “dumbass”.

  • joe7

They are activists. It really says something about an organization that declares it will rally against something even before they know what it is

  • writer

It’s a pre-emptive strike. No point waiting till you hear something before deciding you don’t like it.

  • Zandandido

The only people who care about MediaMatters is MSNBC pundits and progressives. They are irrelevant. All they do is attack conservatives and condemn all speech by conservatives, libertarians, Republicans, and anyone they don’t like. They need to get out of their mothers’ basements and actually get a real job. This is sad.

  • Zandandido

And I thought saying “targeting” was evil and hateful rhetoric.

  • Paleoconservatarian

“The likelihood is whoever is on at 5 p.m. is going to be a source of conservative misinformation.

I read that as “we are a source of progressive friendly character assassination and lies.”

Any news organization or media critique site that sources them when they’re not actively a part of some ongoing controversy is doing a major disservice to their own credibility. This means you, Mediaite.
