MSNBC’s Luke Russert Cuts Off Dem Rep. to Break LeBron James News

In case you didn’t already believe that MSNBC’s Luke Russert is cable news’ biggest dudebro, he may have sealed the deal while filling in for Andrea Mitchell today.
Just after 12:30pm ET on Friday, Russert brought on Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) to discuss the partisan gridlock in Washington. King began going after a Republican Congress that “insists on suing the president” and “refuses to do almost anything” but only got to answer one real question before he was ushered off the screen.
After speaking to his guest for a total of about 60 seconds, Russert cut the interview short to announce that LeBron James had made his decision to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers after four years with the Miami Heat.
“Congressman Israel, we’ll have more from you later in the show,” Russert said. “I’m sorry, though. King James is making his decision known and that bumps you out, but thank you so much for joining us.”
To be fair, the decision to abandon a political discussion to jump on the LeBron James train probably came directly from the show’s producer, not Russert himself, but he did not seem too upset about it. Russert read aloud from James’ Sports Illustrated essay, sounding far more excited to talk about basketball that he was to talk about politics, even letting out an “Oh my goodness!” at the end of the quote.
Earlier this year, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell caught some flak for interrupting a discussion with former Congresswoman Jane Harman about the NSA to bring viewers breaking news of Justin Bieber’s arraignment in court.
