Salon’s excellent 3-part series on Glenn Beck’s Zoo Crew roots has restored a lot of focus to the impact that Glenn Beck’s instincts as an entertainer have on his political stances. Google News Spotlight, an automatic aggregator which highlights heavily linked-to and debated articles from across the blogosphere, has placed the article near the top of its feed; it’s also gotten a ton of play on Metafilter.

The Salon series has also had a hand in making a viral phenomenon out of this zany 1986 TV ad for Beck’s radio show, which involves balloons, cuckoo clocks, and a chimp named Zippy. Yes, this is actually real. Observe:

As Glenn Beck, art historian, Glenn Beck, fake karaoke singer, and Glenn Beck’s fake boiled frog (below) can attest, who needs gimmicks?

This actually reinforces something I’ve known all along: the 1980s totally rule(d)!

This 3-part series in Salon has definitely put the current incarnation of Mr. Beck into perspective: He suffers, without question, from bipolar disorder. Glenn Beck fits the classic case of a manic-depressive. I sincerely hope he is receiving treatment and I truly question the motives of any organization that puts a sufferer of this ailment on the air — as the question of “if” a breakdown will happen is the wrong question — the correct question is “when?”.

LOL……the YouTube clip above is the one Glenn Beck used on his show today to prove a point. Whoever posted the video, left out his last sentence…”and the frog is fake”. In anticipation of an outcry from bloggers today, Glenn showed a tape of yesterdays rehearsal prior to the frog segment. He even showed an email from PETA, informing him that they knew it was a fake frog, but asked him to show the rehearsal tape because of all the hate mail PETA was receiving. GEEEEEEEEEEZ…..some people.

As for the 80’s Morning Zoo clip….CRZ is right…the 80’s rule and cute little Glenn had no idea back then that he’d host a number one show and be a multimillionaire in the process. I love America!!

I see that you are one of those who WILL NOT BELIEVE what you SEE? The news, and I do mean news, that comes from FOX NEWS has everything they tell you on tape. So, as I said, you do not believe what you see with your own eyes. If you can’t tell the truth from what you get on all other, BAMBAM stations, then I really feel sorry for you drinking all that coo-aid and believing what they tell you. Of course, you never hear the REAL side of the stories, they only tell you what BAMBAM wants them to tell you. He is doing the same thing with his SO CALLEDA Health Plan. If you believe what he says, just remember he never tells the whole story about anything, EXPECIALLY ABOUT HIMSELF. Oh yes, what good has he done for the United States since he was GIVEN the office?

I thought the Salon article was amazing. A must-read for anyone who is interested in Glenn Beck as an individual.

MSNBC Jumps The Gun On Rep. Stupak’s Health Vote

    video

At 1 pm today, MSNBC was reporting that Democratic House member Bart Stupak was voting "yes" on the health care bill, via a chyron on the bottom of their screen, even as the hosts were saying he was "close to" a deal. C-Span repeated the same story. At 1:20 pm Stupak told reporters that he's still planning on voting no, but "getting there." So how did a major news org end up reporting otherwise?

Bill Maher Goes After Cheney’s Campaign: “Elect Liz…Not The Lesbian One”

    video

Bill Maher's graphics team had a fun time last night making up posters for Liz Cheney's alleged 2012 campaign for office. Maher's attack on Dick Cheney's daughter comes after her Keep America Safe ads several weeks ago which depicted the lawyers who defended suspected Al Qaeda members as terrorists themselves.
