Obama’s National Security Chief Of Staff Goes ‘Nucular’

video

After years of the cringe-worthy pronunciation of nu-cu-lar during the Bush White House, it seemed like we finally had an administration who had a litmus test in staffing their National Security detail – pronounce the word “nuclear.” Not so. During an interview to discuss Iran’s weapons program with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell today, National Security Chief of Staff Denis McDonough definitely uttered the term Nucular. Gotcha! Critics eager for payback? Go!

Maybe he was watching “24″ off the DVR before his appearance?

    maybe it’s just a dialect thing…

Well, I don’t know how to break this to the progressives, but if they are to stay true to their idealogy and heart-felt beliefs this man must go. It’s been established long ago by them (progressives) that the inability to pronounce this word as “nu-cle-ar” is a clear indication of serious mental deficiencies.

Their dyed in the wool prognosis, no?

It is an utter nonsense that the U.S. is preventing Israel from attacking Iran. Israel (at least under the UN) is a sovereign country. It can attack if it wishes to; however, it will alone and ALONE it shall bear the devastating consequences of an Iranian reprisal. The U.S. will not fight the Israeli regime’s wars. Let us not forget who first introduced us to the pronunciation: n u c u l e r. It was Jimmah Carter.

It is a hard word to pronounce correctly, harder with some dialects and accents (W’s faux Texas, Kennedy’s Back Bay). I never thought W was dumb because he couldn’t pronounce it. In fact, I never thought W dumb, just lazy, incurious and carrying for too much baggage (laden with psychoses and pathologies).

I’ll say the same thing I said when they went after Bush for his pronunciation. That pronunciation is also correct.
    Pronunciation: \ˈnü-klē-ər, ˈnyü-, ÷-kyə-lər\
My father worked on the Atomic Commission. During the 40′s and 50′s this pronunciation was more prevalent than it is today. If you look at old dictionaries you will find it listed.
Just like softer – in older dictionaries – two acceptable pronunciations were listed. the t was silent in one.

So unless one is a linguist and/or studies the English language and all of its acceptable variations throughout the years – one should refrain from commenting on people’s intelligence solely on their pronunciation of words. Since so many people commented on Bush being stupid – one could say that they in turn are stupid because they did not know enough about the language to comment. I would rather say that they were not stupid – just ignorant of all the facts. I would not deem them unintelligent. Too bad those commenting don’t give this latitude to those speaking. Generalizations almost always seem to fall apart under close examination.

Unlike liberalism, conservatism values consistency. This pronunciation was no big deal with Bush; it is no big deal with this guy.

Now, if liberals WERE consistent, they’d be all over this guy.

    Anyone hear that happening?

    Didn’t think so.

It’s not hard at all! Simply say “new clear.”

  • pugsly

I don’t see a problem with how he pronounced “nuclear”. I have more of a problem that he said, “more easier.”

  • yrowens

Ah, you beat me to it. It took so long to register and I wanted to be first to note that he said “more easier.”
