Rand Paul: Trump’s Lead Is the Media’s Fault

PicMonkey Collage - PaulDuring an interview with CBS This Morning, Rand Paul was asked about his thoughts and approach to the primary debate tonight. When the conversation took its inevitable turn to the leading headline generator, Donald Trump, Paul attributed his lead in the polls to the help he got from copious amounts of media coverage.

“You all covered him with about a billion dollars’ worth news of media,” Paul said, jokingly that the media had only itself to blame. He elaborated that he is not actually blaming anyone, that “the news is what the news is,” but acknowledged that his discussion of policy issues like creating a flat tax is not receiving the coverage Trump’s been getting.

“I’ve really had a little trouble getting traction with getting the message out,” Paul said. “You have to admit that there’s been an extraordinary amount of attention paged to one person and I think anybody’s numbers would rise with that amount of attention.”

Paul’s comments come hours away before he will face off against Trump and eight others in the first GOP primary debate. In terms of what he hopes to accomplish tonight, Paul said he plans to mix things up.

“Our job tonight is to step up, defend and maybe demolish some other bad ideas that are out there or point out that maybe there are some empty suits without ideas.”
