Rep. Weiner’s Office Calls Police On CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer For Requesting Interview
After a very long day of direct questions and more than one indirect answer, Rep. Anthony Weiner, who initially said he wouldn’t let the burgeoning Twitter scandal now known as “Weinergate” to take its toll on him, has declared a moratorium on interview requests. While one may expect him to do so by simply releasing a press release, his office actually called the police on one intrepid CBS reporter to make its point.
CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer took the initiative to visit the New York Congressman’s office today to request an interview, stating that she felt that, while he had given time to the national media, he had not addressed New York directly. Kramer entered Rep. Weiner’s office and introduced herself, requesting an interview. According to the CBS report, “those few words created quite the stir. Doors slammed and people pretended she wasn’t there.”
After an exchange with Rep. Weiner’s press secretary, police were called in and warned Kramer that she needed to leave the premises if asked or “you can be placed under arrest,” to which she replied, “but I wasn’t refusing to leave.” While the exchange didn’t escalate, but the Congressman’s refusal to see the reporter followed by police action (the kind of police action, many detractors will note, Rep. Weiner has declined to use in the mysterious caper that got him into this mess in the first place).
