Sarah Palin Advises IL “Lady Hoopsters” Prevented From Visiting AZ To “Go Rogue”

video

Sarah Palin really knows how to get the most bang for her buck out of her catchphrases. Palin’s Twitter account— apparently she’s retreated from Facebook after the backlash against her Carly Fiorina endorsement Update: and her Facebookalready hinted at her fury about this, but today Palin took to Fox News to discuss the Illinois girl’s basketball team whose school is protesting against the new Arizona illegal immigration law, and she wants the girls to “go rogue” in response.

Palin called in to America Live to talk about the subject with host Megyn Kelly, where she explained her outrage against the school by calling their objection to the law “fightin’ words” and gave some advice to the basketball team:

“I want these girls to feel empowered and go rogue if they must, figure out a way to protest a decision like this and figure out a way to get there on their own if it can be done not being sanctioned by the school, this tournament. Look at these lady hoopsters told ‘no ball in Arizona,’ because Arizona isn’t ‘aligned with the beliefs and values’ of, I guess, their school district’”

She also criticized the school for letting students travel to China despite their notorious record on human rights, and called them hypocrites for protesting Arizona for what they perceive to be the same thing.

“You know a thing or two about politics,” Kelly offers helpfully, “and basketball!” Asked whether she has any further insights on the topic based on her history as a basketball player, Palin responds with some more wisdom for the basketball team, which actually sheds a lot of light onto Palin’s political thought processes. When they grow older, Palin says, they will find that “everything they ever needed to know, they will have learned on the basketball court.”

Yes, it is always wise for an adult to counsel young boys and girls to ignore rules and violate laws. After all, her own brood offers us a prime example of well-raised, well-behaved and responsible children.

  • MichelleF

“I’m not sure whose values and what values and what beliefs they’re talking about, we were just going to Arizona to play basketball and our daughters were very disappointed to find out the trip had been canceled,” Michael Evans, a father of one of the players told Fox News…

Evans said he also failed to understand why the school allowed so many other trips, but not this one.

“The school has sent children to China, they’ve sent children to South America, they’ve sent children to the Czech Republic, but somehow Arizona is more unsafe for them than those places,” he said.

  • Olby Sucks

Which rules and laws have been violated, phony? Whoever is behind keeping these kids from going had better be fired, pronto. Playing politics with high school kids that have worked hard to accomplish something is way out of bounds. I heard Hannity will be having some of the family members on tonight, it will be interesting. Hannity also offered to pay for the trip, good for him.

  • Olby Sucks

It wouldn’t surprise me if obama the dicktator was behind this.

  • The Real Royal King

I am not sure how the Czech Republic got into that discussion. It seems far more enlightened than either China or Arizona. I can draw a distinction between the Chinese situation and the one in Arizona. Chinese human rights abuses are clearly much worse than such abuses in Arizona, even given Sheriff Joe. In fact, they are worse than human rights abuses even in Alabama. But, there are some cultural and legal norms which are very different. The trip to China could clearly inform and enlighten the young women. I’m not so sure an Arizona trip could do so. If I were a parent of one of these young women, I’m not sure what I would do.

If I were a school administrator, coach or parent of or for one of these young women who were Hispanic or Hispanic in appearance, I would be gravely, gravely concerned about her being stopped, questioned, harassed, detained or even scheduled for deportation. There could be serious safety concerns and serious liability concerns for the school. I think I would be a very poor parent if I were to let such a daughter go to Arizona.

  • The Real Royal King

Hannity also offered to pay for the trip, good for him.

Yes, an adult aiding and abetting misbehavior, violation of established rules with the force of law by a child is always a good and positive thing.

  • MichelleF

Um, what human rights violations are you referring to in AZ, King?

If I were a school administrator, coach or parent of or for one of these young women who were Hispanic or Hispanic in appearance, I would be gravely, gravely concerned about her being stopped, questioned, harassed, detained or even scheduled for deportation. There could be serious safety concerns and serious liability concerns for the school. I think I would be a very poor parent if I were to let such a daughter go to Arizona.

Well, they would only have worry about that say if they stole a car while there. You know very well, that the question of citizenship can ONLY come up if they are arrested for something else. Stop trying to destort the law.

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

The China comparisons are idiotic. No one expects China to adhere to our values and beliefs, but we do expect that of each other. So we protest it to try and change it.

As for the girls, they should have been allowed to play if they wanted. This wont hurt Arizona, it will only harm the girls.

Also, how can anyone take this idiot seriously:
“Highland Park says ok 4 student trip 2 CHINA,but not r sister state-Arizona-bc they fear AZ’s”not aligned w/r beliefs&values” And CHINA is?”

AZ is just following federal law BFD. Do you need another refresher course? BTW, a MAJORITY of americans agree with AZ, according to a poll released yesterday by PEW Get used to it!

@Big_F-ing_Deal are you saying she is an idiot for abbreviating the statement for it to fit into on Twitter post? Oh thats right, Obama says no technology for his followers! Progressive Thinking: But Republicansshudder started the AZ law. Therefore we have to hate the law, even if it mirrors Federal law.

  • The Real Royal King

Arizona has a long tradition of not enforcing labor laws, of police abuse and of racial profiling. Mind you, it’s no Alabama, but it can be very hostile. The self-promoting, loud mouth, cocky Sheriff Joe is constantly running afoul of civil rights guarantees, as you know.

Further, Michelle, I think we always have to recognize the liklihood that a law will be abused by those charged with enforcing it. Police misconduct is not usual, but neither is it atypical. I know that some of the police departments are even considering not allowing their officers to enforce the law, despite the mandates and penalties, for liability concerns. Far too much uncertainty.

That being said, I do have to admit that as a parent (with children now grown), I was more cautious than ordinary prudence might dictate. My children would not be going to Arizona on school or club trips.

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

“AZ is just following federal law BFD.”

Bullshit. The requirements are the same, the enforcements are different.

  • Jackie_Treehorn

    WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!

I thought Megyn Kelly was an “anchor” and not an “opinion journalist”. Isn’t FAUX “Fair and Balanced”?

So you want to punish people pre-emptively? Sounds like a great idea to me!

Then I feel bad for your kids, missing out on the experience. My son was selected to go to Wa DC last year and even though I disagree with Obama, I would never consider keeping him home because of that.

Don’t you libs get sick of being on the opposite side of the majority of Americans?

  • timzank

TRRK: ” I would be gravely, gravely concerned about her being stopped, questioned, harassed, detained or even scheduled for deportation”

That’s over the top even for you. Making that kind of statement proves one of two things, you are truly an imbecile or you are a liar making hysterical remarks.

Honestly, you’re kinda fun to argue with sometimes but this kind of thing just makes you sound like a flippin’ idiot.

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

    How so?

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

Well, let’s begin with the TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS.

First it was lawful contact and then they changed it to lawful contact or detention.

Which one exactly was the same as federal law?

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

First it was lawful contact and then they changed it to lawful stop or detention.

    Fixed

  • itzmec

    @trrk
what you should of said is, i think i would be a very poor parent if i were to let such a daughter go to arizona, without proper identification.

  • timzank

BFD…lawful contact meant “being stopped for something’ or suspicion of a crime being committed. They had to clarify the language because race baiters and lefty’s can’t fricking read and comprehend, they generally need a written roadmap to find their own ass.

    Little help?

  • Grammie

BFD, some citations please of the abuse of a law that does not become effective for another three months!!

  • The Real Royal King

Michelle, my children traveled as widely as any children, all through the US and Latin America, much of Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, India, China, Japan, and they went on frequent school and personal trips. There were trips I would not permit for either safety or philosophical reasons. For example, a trip to Apartheid era South African and Allende era Chile was not allowed. My objections to Arizona are both safety-related and philosophical. I feel that they are prudent and socially responsible. I would want my children to be outraged by a law such as that which was passed, and I would vest them in the boycott experience. That, too is a learning experience. I remember my son wanted to see a film when he was 12. As we got to the theatre, a picket line had been set up by the projectionists’ union. I don’t cross picket lines. My son was, of course, disappointed, but to this day he talks about that.

By the way, a bit unrleated: the City of Phoenix believes it may lose up to US $90 Million per year on convention business. I tend to think it will be less than half of that, but still, a serious, serious, self-inflicted wound. I am betting that the gutless legislators are all hoping this law is declared unConstitutional quickly. If not, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it quietly repealed.

  • The Real Royal King

    timzank says:

Actually in their punitive, ethnically-induced euphoria and pandering, the legislators drafted the law poorly. The change was what I think is a feeble and foolish attempt to stop it from being declared unConstitutional right out of the gate.

  • MichelleF

    King,
I should have my son talk to you. He is on an all spanish (except for him and another boy) soccer team. One of the boys started saying the AZ law was bad. My son ask him point blank if he knew what it said and the boy responded that the police could pick you up for no reason. My son proceeded to tell him that isn’t true and that you have to be arrested for something else before finding out if you are here legally. He’s only 11 and understands what the law says. Why is it that you full grown libs can’t grasp it?

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

“BFD, some citations please of the abuse of a law that does not become effective for another three months!!”

So you too cant answer my question where in the “same” federal law it says lawful contact or stop?

Instead you want citations from me for something I didn’t even allege?

Go back in your hole, granny.

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

“and that you have to be arrested for something else before finding out if you are here legally.”

Ummm… you don’t have to be “arrested”.

  • MichelleF

At first you just had to be stopped, but the libs cried racism so much that the Gov. changed it, so you morons could better understand it.

  • MichelleF

The bill also clarifies that law-enforcement officers shall inquire about the immigration status only of those they “stop, detain or arrest.” The earlier bill simply said “contact.” The change is designed to allay fears that officers would have to examine the papers of anyone they spoke to, including crime victims and witnesses.

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

“It’s you who are mis-informed. If you can’t read the bill for yourself, let me know and I’ll have my 3 year old niece read it to you.”

“So now, in response to those critics, lawmakers have removed “lawful contact” from the bill and replaced it with “lawful stop, detention or arrest.”

Now go teach your boy the truth.

  • MichelleF

My “boy” knows the truth. He’s better informed that you are. According to Obama, the police could just round you up when you were taking your kids out for ice cream. Those of us with a brain, knew that “contact” meant you were being stopped for something, but the Gov. had to change the language so you race-baiting, ignorant libs could understant it. Unfortunately, you seemed to be lacking more brain power than even the average lib, so you probably still don’t get it.

  • Big_F-ing_Deal

You said “arrested” Obviously people who are stopped for a tail light are not arrested so you are wrong.

Here is the chance now to show you are human michelle and admit you were wrong.
    It wont be hard.

Don’t change the subject to Obama being wrong. Nice dodge. lol
Just say you misspoke and you meant “stopped OR arrested”. Because there is a BIG difference between the two.

  • libra blue

The China comparison is legitimate. It doesn’t matter whether or not we “expect” someone to adhere to a set of so-called “values”. You either condone someone’s actions or you don’t. You can’t just look the other way because of what you expect or don’t expect. That is a ludicrous excuse.

When is this tournament? From what I understand the law doesn’t take effect until July. Since no one can be questioned about their citizenship unless he/she commits a crime, is the school suggesting that these students are going to commit crimes in AZ?

BTW, Superintendent George Fornero, one of those responsible for this stupid decision, is not a stranger to controversy. He was one of the school officials who tried to make “”Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes” required reading at his school even though it violated state profanity laws.

  • Olby Sucks

The libs on this board consider you racist if you’ve ever used white out on a typo. Besides never offering any answers on what to do about people entering the country illegally, the left always forgets one thing. If someone from Mexico played by the rules, waded through all the red tape, and came here legally, isn’t it a slap in the face to them when others simply skip all that and sneak across the border? The whole concept of having immigration laws becomes a mockery.

I have no idea. I guess you’re going to have to ask an Arizona legislator or an AZ police officer that question. Apparently they are going to be specially trained to figure that out.

AC, you definitely need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills and tone yourself down a bit.

I challenged the Big F**ker (3 times) to provide citations for his claim that the enforcement of the AZ law 3 months before it becomes effective was abusive.

Yes, I am on SS and Medicare. Yes, I am stuck in the system and can’t go back to change my status. Yes, I think both need major overhauls b/c they are both ponzi schemes that are racing ever closer to collapse. I supported GWB’s attempt to fundamentally change the system to a market based individually owned system.

BTW, the possibility that BHO would pull the SS rug out from under me is the least of the worries I have about him.

I don’t like your attitude b/c it seems we agree politically one whit more than I do the same attitude from the lefty creeps here.

  • libra blue

@Grammie, “AC, you definitely need to brush up on your reading comprehension skills and tone yourself down a bit.”

Anderson was totally clueless tonight during his panel discussion with Reyes and Arpaio. He really should read the AZ law and not just rely on what CNN puts up on the teleprompter. According to Cindy Adams, AC is using this new pit bull persona to try and raise his ratings, so he isn’t going to “tone down”, in fact, he will probably only get worse.

Libra, by AC I meant American Cowboy here and was responding to his specific comment to me.

However, AC on CNN could not have possibly been more clueless than Eric Holder today. Nobody could!

The Attorney General of the United States admits that a law that he has commented on publicly has not read the actual law, I wonder if POTUS has read it or did he just depend on his ignorant Ag for all his comments.

Where is the outpouring of rage? One would think that Mediaite would be all over this instead of their usual obsession with all things Palin and Beck.

I would say ask Eric Holder but that fool hasn’t even read the actual law. Why am I not surprised?

  • Teabagger

I don’t think Eric Holder is going to have the job for much longer. That guy needs to sit down, shut up, and do his job. Instead, it appears he is enjoying his time in the spot light in front of the TV cameras and reading his words in the newspapers.

    So long Holder, you numbskull.

Sorry Grammie I skipped over some stuff.

Are you two both stupid or are you intentionally spreading around lies?

You can only ask someone for I.D. if they break the law. Then if the have I.D. they go on their way. They are not allowed to stop someone for looking mexican. That is written into the law.

If you pull out a Mexican National Drivers Licence… then you got some splaining to do.

I am for target practice on the border. If you see someone sneaking across the border (any of our borders) shoot them (regardless of race). Unfortunitly that did not get written into the law.

Those that come into the country legally should be welcome with open arms.

    Liberials are morons!!!

Maybe this will help. Go look up “Alien Registration Act in 1940″ It’s standing Federal law that states a federal crime for illegals to fail to keep certain registration documents on their person. Also look up 4th Amendment to the constitution. AZ HB2162 kicks in AFTER a person’s 4th amendment rights, not before.

AZ HB2162 added the extra language for detention/arrest to make it another layer behind the 4th amendment, again not before. So federal rights (law) preceeds AZ HB2162. Since Alien registration Act (yes, a federal law) makes it illegal, HB2162 allows AZ law enforcement to turn over illiegal immigrants to ICE.

Or let’s try this. Would you agree that for decades AZ sheriff’s dept, police depts, and DPS have been turning over illegals to ICE? Same for many other states. Or would you think that for decades that not one illegal was turned over to ICE and then deported? Think it out. You’re not believing that no sheriff deputy or DPS officer for example has never ever turned over an single illegal to ICE do you? The Point?

AZ law enforcement has been turning over illegals to ICE using existing law for decades. You know that. So have many other states. How can they do this legal? Because it’s already existing Fereral law. It’s on the books. For decades. Think it out. That’s why for example a sheriff deputy or say DPS 2 weeks ago stopped a UHaul for traffic violation, found 67 illegals in the back and turned over to ICE. How did they do that before HB2162 becomes law? Because it’s already Federal law. ICE asks AZ residents daily for their documents to show citizenship. Has for decades.

AZ2162 just makes Alien Registration act and being in the country illegally binding as not only a federal crime, but now a state crime. Why? To trump sanctuary cities who mayors have ordered their police not to turn over illegals to ICE as well as elected sheriffs in AZ who refuse to call ICE. But I have a suspicion, you’re already aware of all of this. I’ll break t to you, Illegals have been turned over to ICE for decades by state law enforcement. Bithat congress if you don’t like existing immigration law.

“Again, the left has plenty of criticisms. Let’s hear them out. What are their solutions for stopping people from entering the country illegally?”

Its not original, but I think it can work:
    1.GO AFTER BUSINESS EMPLOYERS
    2.strengthen our border
3.give selective amnesty to some illegals.

It pains me to do this, but here it goes:

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,122297,00.html
“Many members of Congress, chiefly Democratic members, regarded the amnesty of these illegal aliens a sine qua non of any attempt to reform our immigration laws. Reagan recognized this, and, being the optimist that he was, saw something humane and profitable in affording this relatively small group of illegal aliens legal status.”

“In exchange for legal status for the group, Reagan insisted that the magnet attracting illegal aliens to the United States be removed by extinguishing any incentive for U.S. employers to hire illegal aliens. In tandem with the amnesty, Reagan campaigned for employer sanctions for hiring illegal aliens, sanctions so stringent that many at the time regarded them as draconian.”

OK, Im all on board with the ol’ Gipper on that.

    Unfortunately,

    http://www.nmass.org/nmass/breakthechains/breakthechains.html
“Signed into law by President Reagan, employer sanctions was supposedly enacted to protect jobs for U.S. citizens by punishing employers with a fine for “knowingly” hiring undocumented workers. Contrary to its name, however, few employers are actually “sanctioned” under the law. In 2004, for example, the government issued to employers a total of only three “notices of intent to fine.” The limited number of enforcement actions against employers since 1986 is no accident; there are strong political and economic interests that favor expanding the supply of cheap labor.”

“there are strong political and economic interests that favor expanding the supply of cheap labor.”

That would be Business, to whom the republicans are a wholly owned subsidiary of. Yes and democrats too.

    http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,122297,00.html
“While Reagan’s 1986 immigration reforms (search) can at least be called rational, they were a failure. Today, there are between 8 million and 11 million illegal aliens in the United States. The majority of them crossed our southern border and has found employment — illegal employment, but employment nonetheless. This is attributed to Sen. Ted Kennedy’s eventual gutting of the enforcement mechanism for Reagan’s employer sanctions, and successive administrations refusing to give our Border Patrol the resources it needs to achieve its mission.”

I believe Reagan was being disingenuous with his proposal by trying to pander votes from his white republican base, while trying to convert hispanic voters,: ultimately trying to have his cake and eat it. After all, he was the one who said “hispanics are conservative, they just don’t know it yet.” lol,.

Considering how much Reagan sucked up to corporate interests, its not hard for me to believe that his employer sanctions were designed to fail,( apparently with the help of liberals) while giving us a distorted picture of the facts.

Its like Obama getting “tough” with healthcare insurance companies by throwing us all into the private sector, with very little actual reform.

    Koolaid comes in 2 colors.

Funny how establishment rethuglicans talk a big game about immigration reform, but all we get is this:

” can you explain to me how I’m physically supposed to tell the difference between a Mexican and a Hispanic?”

ha ha,.physically, its a little challenging.

    conceptually it goes like this

    all mexicans are hispanic
but not all hispanics are mexican.

Hispanic refers to any culture that has been transformed by Spanish illegal immigrants/imperialists. Puerto Ricans,Cubans, Dominicans,etc.,..are all hispanic,.,.but call a Cuban a Puerto Rican or Mexican….your gonna have problems.

btw…Some in Mexico, like full blooded Mayans, would not be considered hispanic, because they never mixed with the conquistadors

Boycotting Arizonia is about standing up for what you believe! If palin wants to organize and go play in the place of the team from Illinois. Who is she to advise anybody the trashy, ignorant, bobble- head.

  • wickerchino

Who uses a word like “hoopsters” anymore? It’s not the 50′s anymore rather they like it or not. These “responsible” adults, Palin and Hannity are encouraging aiding in the delinquency of minors, telling them to break the rules. That’s not “traditionalist”, they’re telling them to defy adults, to defy their teachers. That would be refreshing in a weird sense if it weren’t so very, very hypocritical.
