Sarah Palin Suggests Things Might Have Been Better For GOP Had She Been On Top Of Ticket In ’08

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin suggested Republicans would have fared better in 2008 had she, not John McCain, been the messenger of change for the GOP. “I wasn’t at the top of the ticket, remember?”

Speaking at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi, Palin was asked why Republicans were unable to defeat Barack Obama in 2008. Palin told Aroon Purie, editor of India Today that Obama was able to cast himself as the change candidate, and that things might have gone differently had she been the GOP’s presidential candidate. Palin did not suggest that she should have been the nominee.

As for 2012, Palin again said she had not decided on a run. “I don’t think there needs to be a rush still to get out there as a declared candidate,” she said.

Palin also slammed journalists for failing to report on candidates’ records and accomplishments, and suggested that Republicans don’t always do a good enough job getting those messages out for themselves:

“Too often, Republicans have the fighting instinct of sheep sometimes,” she said. When it comes to correcting the record, “I will put my foot down.”

She “slammed journalists for failing to report on candidates’ records and accomplishments,”…..but when the media actually starts to dig into her record, she complains louder than anyone.

Or lied about selling Alaskas Jet, or refusing funding for the bridge to nowhere.

  • mibwilso

She needs to get a friggin’ clue. The media does not exist to give you free advertising, Sarah. Nor is their job to report only on the things you want them to report on.

Part of the media’s job is to ask questions of people who are seeking elected office.

Maybe you should leave politics to the ones who can handle the questions.

  • proudpatriotusa

Half-term, half-wit Sarah Palin’s career would be over in half an hour in a jumble of word salad gibberish were she ever to appear on “Meet the Press”, “Face the Nation” or “This Week.”

Palin also doesn’t have enough palms and Sharpies to appear in that press conference she’s never had since her 2008 nomination.

She won’t have a news conference because she’s afraid someone might ask her to point out Alaska on the map.

“Fox News: Sarah Palin is an idiot ”

I don’t. I lived in CA. There are tons of unemployed people that take Federal money, as do the people that live in CA illegally. That’s just one state. I don’t have a problem with states taking Federal monies over certain issues. I have a problem when states over-burden themselves with taxing their citizens. Much big difference between states individually taxing their people and Federal monies being given for indigenous, DoT or emergency-related physical disasters.

Yes, and some of these states (Alaska), it’s per their Constitution that certain Federal monies (oil taxes) are issued. Bigger issues to deal with other than Palin’s awesomeness. Neocon Obama and SoS Clinton looking more Presidential are much more important topics.

Perhaps you don’t understand how being a state within a group of states works. If a natural disaster strikes, the Fed gov’t should give assistance to this country. All the Fed. gov’t needs to do is have an equipped and ready military and produce the conditions for economic growth, nationally and internationally. Other than that, there’s not a lot more that the Fed. gov’t needs to do. Borders, military, natural disasters……those are the biggies.

So, what NATURAL DISASTERS hit the Dakotas, the deep South and Alaska at the same time?
Why should my state send money to yours? The reps. from the leech states claim to be for SMALL govt.
Why don’t they refuse to take all that dirty Fed. money?
When Rand Paul refuses to allow Kentucky to receive more than it gives, I’ll believe him. Hell, I’ll buy him a drink.

Natural disasters aren’t unique to California, friend. Lots of tornados hit the midwest…hurricanes hit the Southeast….and on and on. It’s pretty dispersed.

Since when did I say that natural disasters were only attributed to CA? And by natural disasters, I should’ve also included normal weather catastrophes in general.

I comment on lots of topics. No obsession. Politics is fun to follow. And with Sarah Palin it’s not just fun, but funny to observe her performance. By the way, are you still hoping for a Palin/West GOP ticket to go against Obama/Biden? Good luck. I’m looking really hard, but I can’t see Palin/West from my house. I’m going to try to remember something that I’ve read now. Later.

bears repeating….great speech by Palin; Palin represents CHANGE back to American traditional values, Obama represents Crony Chicago Politics.

Palin will wipe the floor with Obama’s big ears

Obama’s probably one of the nicest guys in the world. He’s never hurt anyone or done anything wrong.. if he had, he wouldn’t have been president. This “thug” talk… please, what does that even mean? His “thug” tactics probably amount to clever decisions on his part that ended with a Republican somewhere unhappy. He seems to raise great kids, is a great husband, speaks with candor, doesn’t make decisions without thinking about them and seems genuinely care about compromising with both sides.

You’re just blinded by bullshit at this point, Obama is awesome and most of America agrees and would be stoked to meet the guy, he’s done some amazing things, even if you dont’ agree with Democrats. Yeah we spend, BFD, get over it, we need to spend or we’ll fall apart like Japan did when a natural disaster hit, plus we need to SPEND to help get our shit together after this reccession, as any business owner knows when they go and grab a loan, you gotta spend money to make money. So yes, Obama has to invest your tax money in things he thinks will boost the economy in the short or long-term.

We’re better off with him than Palin, she’s the dumbest choice and even most Republicans think that now, I’ve seen poll after poll saying people don’t think she’s ready. Glenn Beck it’s “under” her, haha, yeah Sarah Palin, who’s daughter was on “Dancing with the Stars” is “above” the presidency. Or maybe he doesn’t want the dumb-as-dirt woman to be in charge of our nukes. Palin can’t even run her family, or her state, she’s an inept idiot, haha.

Purie, who introduced her to the gathering, poked fun at Palin’s “creative vocabulary” and her polarizing place in American politics in his introduction of the former governor.

Purie identified Palin as the “the sexiest brand in Republican politics” and frequently made clear that not everyone in the United States has a positive view of the former Alaska governor. “Either you love her or hate her,” he said.

Alluding to Palin’s penchant for sometimes venturing into unique terminology, Purie said “if I may be forgiven for saying so, she has a creative vocabulary.”

This is a trip!! Thanks for posting this. It is not acceptable for the mainstream media in America to criticize Sarah Palin for her poor verbal skills. Instead, they always focus on the content of what she says ignoring her poor communication. Because she is so uneducated she constantly either mispronounces or misuses words. It is refreshing to see someone so outspoken over her verbal deficits and poke fun at her in other areas too.

The reason McCain lost was two-fold. He refused to go after Obama even though there were serious questions about Obama’s legitimacy. He was afraid of being labeled “racist” by Obama’s media allies. And he would have been.

The second reason is the media itself. They made it their mission to ensure Obama’s election. They went after Palin with a vengeance while largelt leaving Obama untouched. It was media malfeasance at it’s finest. In short – they didn’t vet Obama – they endorsed and protected him.

“Johansen confirmed what many people outside the industry have been saying for the last few years. Alaska’s taxes are among the highest in the world on new investment. And, worse yet, the risk is borne by the investor but the bulk of the reward goes to the state in the form of tax revenues. That, folks, is what you call a disincentive. If the potential reward is too small here, the risk capital goes to other oil provinces.”

I’m sure she has a very reasonable explanation for this.

  • writer

Before the Trans-Alaska pipeline was finished in 1977, taxpayers in Alaska bore the second-highest tax burden in the country. By 1980, with oil tax revenue pouring in, Alaska repealed its personal income tax and started sending out checks instead. The tax burden plummeted, and now Alaskans are the least taxed.

  • Emerson_C

Governor Palin made a lengthy speech in India which joined the dots on any number of domestic and foreign policy issues, in a manner that I have never heard from Obama.

Why not evaluate these issues instead of homing in a response to a rather flippant question. Also any honest evaluation of the 2008 exit interviews will conclude that it was Palin that prevented Obama from winning by a landslide. As it was his margin of victory was not much greater than that of George Bush over the lamentable Kerry. Even having 90% of media slobbering over him like lovesick schoolgirls did not provide a landslide.

I don’t hate Sarah Palin, she is just delusional and that is really funny. John McCain is just an old man who has overstayed his usefulness to the nation. For some reason, when he ran for President he put aside his integrity and just went with the flow of the republican party to lie, cheat and steal. The idea that it is okay to demonize the enemy started with Reagan and just got worse. Presient Obama is not perfect, but he has stopped the decline of the nation, promulgated by the republican policies of TRICKLE DOWN. The rest of the change has to come from the bottom up and I think many of us have finally gotten the message. WI is just the beginning. The MURDOGs have had their day.

Why does Palin have to disagree about everything?

For instance, Sarah Palin, while governor, instituted a “healthy eating” program to encourage Alaskans to make better food choices.

But when Michelle Obama does it, Palin blasts it as some kind of big brother intrusion and mocks the First Lady when eating s’mores on her reality show.

“They made it their mission?????” Every network I saw reported on Reverend Wright, some more than others. Faux News had almost nonstop coverage of Wright. Isn’t Faux News the top rated cable network amongst the news and commentary networks?

As I recall, most if not all networks had stories concerning the controversy over Obama’s birth place and whether or not he is a “natural born citizen.” But why cover a “story” like this constantly, if it isn’t true?

Obama was properly vetted. He had been on the campaign trail for a year and a half before the November 2008 elections. He gave his speech at the 2004 DNC convention….many people had at least heard of him. It was Palin who was not properly vetted by John McCain himself.

The reason the media went after Palin is that she is at best an oddity. An oddity running for VP, whom most never heard of, deserves some scrutiny. And, Palin’s responses to interviews, notably Katie Couric’s interviews, showed just what a dumbass she is…..so why not question her? She is a very defensive person, and she makes controversial statements….so, once again, why not question her?

There are several reasons why McCain/Palin lost the 2008 election, notably, reasons surrounding Palin herself. She is very divisive. Anyone who talks about the “real America” on the campaign trail is, by that statement alone, extremely divisive. She is not one who unites people, except her most rabid followers.

It is obvious that she is very ignorant of world history and world events. Many people do not want someone like Palin to potentially have her hands on the nuclear codes. We’d almost certainly be in more wars at this time if McCain and Palin had won the 2008 election. Note that one of McCain’s top advisors was Randy Scheunemann, a neocon and former member of Project for a New American Century or PNAC…..he and others in PNAC brought us to war in Iraq…..and now Scheunemann is an advisor to Palin. Arch conservative Pat Buchanan wrote an op-ed about Scheunemann, asking the question about why Scheunemann was an advisor to McCain, and also asking why McCain/Palin want “endless wars.”

The economic crisis did not help McCain’s run for the Presidency, especially when he said he knew little about economics.

Lastly, a number of prominent conservatives and Republicans spoke out against Ms. Palin, stating she was the reason they were not going to vote for McCain. These include Colin Powell, Kathleen Parker, and Christopher Buckley, son of William F. Buckley, founder of the modern conservative movement. The Chicago Tribune endorsed Obama, the first Democrat they ever have endorsed for President since their founding in 1847. A major reason the Tribune endorsed Obama is because of Palin.

Palin is an ignorant reality TV star (who, by the way, had another substance-less person on her Alaska program, Kate Gosselin). She is only in this thing for herself and her money.

Soooo many names he was known by thru grade school, high-school, especially the Naval Academy & fellow aviators. A career freeloader on the word, “hero” – which he assuredly was/is not. What a leader he would have been, out-of-control-temper & all. Read your history. Read Naval Archives. Ahh, but you don’t do that sort of thing. The likes of Palin & McShame reveal a huge clash between “intelligence” – and its opposite. The serious tragedy is that millions of the rancid masses of America actually find value in either of these 2 raging fanatics. Proof that a firestorm of ill-breeding, uneducation, & ignorance sweeps the nation.

The problem wasn’t switching around the ticket. The problem was, McCain was on the ticket. He ran one of the most inane campaigners imaginable. Although under funded and without a recognizable platform, McCain barely lost. I credit that to conservative talk radio. Mrs.Plain is two years down the road from her rather naive shot at the ring. Her political savvy has sharpened and she may very well be in the running.

  • Tedderman

Hey, caCONservative, you’re almost right on one point for a change. “He ran one of the most inane campaigners imaginable.” I assume you mean Sarah Palin, ritght? As for barely loosing by almost 9 million votes, that’s nuuuuuts!

How has Sarah Palin shown become more politically savvy in the last two years?

Twenty four months ago she had strong support from Republicans. Two years later, she has lost much of that.

    I don’t call that “savvy.”

  • Jayson

“Too often, Republicans have the fighting instinct of sheep sometimes,” she said. When it comes to correcting the record, “I will put my foot down.”

Uh, no.. More like I will put my foot in my mouth and eff the country up so much you won’t know left from right.
Good god, doesn’t the woman thinks she’s the grandest of grand? I’m amazing how, according to Sarah P, not one other American can manage to do a thing as good as she can. Gee, how’d the country get this far without her?

Someone needs to prick this freakoids inflated ego so it’ll deflate a notch or two, or three or four. What a complete idiot the woman is. It’ll be a fine day when we’re finished hearing about Sarah P & her I’m gonna git ya, you betcha, crap, and someone thats actually sane takes her place.

That’s not really true, she and McCain were horrible candidates. Aside from that, no republican was going to win in 2008, no matter who was on the ticket. A tree stump would have beat any con in 2008.

McCain and Palin were quite poor candidates. However, your premise is wrong to suggest that any conservative candidate would have lost in 2008. A solid conservative candidate not hitched to Bush’s policies who expressed command and leadership over matters of economics could have beaten Obama in 2008.

I agree with much of what you said. Sadly, while I don’t believe it is her only motive I do believe that the allure of financial wealth was the primary motive behind her resignation as governor. I’ll bet her lecture fee in India was at least 50 K. I do believe that if she is no longer considering that she was seriously considering running for president. So, it wasn’t entirely for personal fame and fortune. I’m just glad that I’m not an Alaskan who voted for her believing in her as governor at one time. What would this country look like if political leaders resigned immediately before raking in millions in the private sector. It is really disgraceful and unpatriotic how she reneged on her vow of public service to the people of Alaska.

  • Old Duffer

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin suggested Republicans would have fared better in 2008 had she, not John McCain, been the messenger of change for the GOP. “I wasn’t at the top of the ticket, remember?”

Speaking at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi, Palin was asked why Republicans were unable to defeat Barack Obama in 2008. Palin told Aroon Purie, editor of India Today that Obama was able to cast himself as the change candidate, and that things might have gone differently had she been the GOP’s presidential candidate. Palin did not suggest that she should have been the nominee.”

Palin said no such damn thing, all this BS is completely fabricated..

It is the same type crap AP tried to pull about here Q&A in India, then got called out and had tro retract.

I also agree with you, that fame and fortune have not been her only motives. She was indeed strongly considering a run for the Presidency, and while I think the chances of her doing so now are lower, I don’t think it is out of the question. She really believes that her way is the only and best way, and I think she thrives not only on fame and fortunate; she thrives on power.

It’s just really a shame that would be politicians like her have to use the rhetoric she does and are as ignorant about things as she is. I find it interesting that Bill O’Reilly seems to be perturbed with her in the last few interviews I’ve seen him do. And, one of the reasons O’Reilly has been perturbed with her is that she was not answering his questions. She was giving the same old stock answer she always gives. To that extent, she seems like a typical politician.

  • glenn113

It wouldn’t be so funny that she actually thinks people will believe that..

The broad is either just plain ignorant or is having a major brain cramp. hey palin – shut the pie hole and stop digging the hole deeper. She makes absolutely no sense – she did not answer most of the question the editor asked her and then the frosting on the cake was when she basically asked him to ask her about China which he did and then wow oh wow she got to blabber one of her canned speeches. One thing for sure there is no lack of LOVE FOR HERSELF. What a dumb, stupid ditz. So glad shes gone on to Israel so she can make a horses butt out of herself there as well.

I really don’t have a problem with her deciding to leave public office in order to make her fortune. I do have a problem with considering her to be a serious contender after she makes that decision.

I tend to think now that her ego and drive would like to be the first female president but her ego also doesn’t want to experience a humiliating defeat , perhaps in the primaries, while talking head money is still on the table.
As far as I’m concerned she has very little to say. It’s all superficial talking points aimed at an audience that is satisfied with that.

    Tedderman:

If you take into account the vast amounts of money Obimbo “the useless”, spent on the campaign, McCain’s reluctance to adequately attack Obimbo’s hidden socialism, lack of leadership qualities, poor Senate record, and his overt courting of known America haters and terrorists, winning by that narrow a margin 7.2%, is not exactly commendable. I see it more as, 9-Million voters were either duped, or the Liberal bottom-feeding, entitlement core of voters were counting on Obimbo to relieve them of more of their personal responsibility and place it on the backs of the workers. He certainly didn’t let them down did he? Yes Sir, Tedderman, Obimbo’s plan to take from those that DO, and give it to those that DON’T has certainly resonated with the parasitic core of Obimbo voters, hasn’t it, Tedderman!

    KirbbDogg2000:

Sarah Palin, and Joe the Plumber did more to help McCain, than all the McCain speech’s put together. Joe the Plumber was responsible for showing us just how insidious Obimbo’s hidden socialist agenda is. And Palin brought an air of freshness and true American beliefs, and core values that have long been missing from the political scene. Without them, the number of votes McCain lost by would have been far greater.

When was the last time you saw Sarah naively submitting to bogus questions from the “left-wingnut”, Obimbo butt-kissing news media? She quickly learned that to believe the Liberal Press would be objective in their questioning was as stupid as believing that Obimbo actually has the ability to lead this nation. Both notions are absurd! Your concerned with her falling approval numbers? Why? Have you taken a look at Obimbo’s numbers? Maybe that’s what you should be concerned about and not what a women living in Alaska is saying. Your sick obsession with this women tells us your scared to death of her. Why? What could this women do or say that in anyway could personally harm you? Could it be that the truth about your misplaced obsession with the interloper is being challenged by this little women in Alaska?

I have one and only one question. How can anyone have a positive comment to make about Sarah Palin’s qualifications to be President of the United States. All we’re getting from the rightwingers are comments to the effect that we’re all a bunch of haters for criticizing Sarah Palin. I don’t hate her. She’s injected herself into the body politic and has to bear the consequences. I’m just surprised that so many of you continue to defend her. Where is your judgment about people, history and our heritage? What will it take for you rightwingers to raise your consciousness about yourselves and the future of our great country. Didn’t you learn anything from the Bush episode?

  • timcajun

True, I am scared to death of Palin. That’s why I want her to run soooo bad!
