Shocking! Robert Gibbs And Fox & Friends Treat Each Other Civilly
Robert Gibbs — who is well known for the frequency with which he gets very angry about Fox News — appeared on Fox and Friends, a show well known for sometimes getting fairly angry about Robert Gibbs. The ostensible purpose of the interview, which was conducted remotely, was to discuss what, exactly, Gibbs’s boss plans to tell the nation tonight. Shockingly, they all seemed to get along!
For those unaware – the White House and Fox News had a bit of a dust-up last year, which fortunately, ended in a truce cessation of hostilities. If you were unaware of that development, and horribly pessimistic, you might think that the interview would go horribly wrong:
The conversation might begin with Obama’s SOTU address. But it would quickly move on to such diverting topics as Obama’s curious weakness for enemies of the homeland; Fox’s illegitimacy as a news-source; the certain doom to which the country was being dragged by the socialist invertebrate who had seized its highest office; and culminate with a red-faced Mr. Gibbs, heaving and steaming with a desire to say things that would, among other things, get him fired.
But in a shocking, and sadly less entertaining development, Robert Gibbs went on Fox and Friends – and proceeded to have a calm, genial, borderline flirtatious conversation. You might even have thought, silly you, that they mutually respect one another. The raillery about Obama’s ties, toward the end, is so sweet, so good-humored — so toothless, frankly — it almost makes you miss the usual bloodyminded hatefest. Alas, there will always be another day for that interview. We hope.
