Wednesday Ratings: MSNBC Finishes 5th Place in Demo, Behind CNBC and HLN

MSNBC’s ratings struggles continued on Wednesday as the Peacock Network’s cable news outlet fell to fifth place in the total day and primetime key 25-54 demo ratings.

Racking up an average 59k demo viewers for the entire day, MSNBC placed behind Fox’s 230k, HLN’s 107k, CNN’s 93k, and CNBC’s 87k demo viewership. And during the primetime hours alone, MSNBC’s average of 118k demo viewers placed fifth behind Fox’s 532k, CNBC’s 226k, CNN’s 164k, and HLN’s 152k.

For the entire day’s total viewership, however, MSNBC placed second with 334k, only behind Fox’s 1.19 million viewers. Same with just the primetime hours: MSNBC’s 716k viewership finished second to Fox’s 2.45M.

However, the 25-54 demo is widely considered the most important ratings metric measuring cable news.

This is not the first time MSNBC has lost in the demo to HLN and CNBC (along with the usual suspects, Fox and CNN). On both Monday and Tuesday of this week, MSNBC finished fifth in both all-day and primetime demo viewership.
