A new Biden White House official apologized on Sunday for old tweets where he compared police officers to slave patrols and called for the abolishment of ICE.

Tyler Cherry, a former Interior Department communications director, was hired to a new role recently to work on the White House communications team. However, old tweets of his have caused attacking police, calling for the abolishment of ICE, and supporting anti-Israel organizations.

Politico was first to report on Cherry’s new promotion as an associate communication director at the White House. He worked previously for three years at the Interior for Secretary Deb Haaland.

Back in 2015 amid the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody, Cherry wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “Praying for #Baltimore, but praying even harder for an end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biases.”

Months later he wrote in another post, “Time to recall that the modern day police system is a direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs.”

In 2014 amid the Gaza War, Cherry slammed Israeli forces and called for the end of “the occupation of Palestine.” He noted, “Cheersing in bars to ending the occupation of Palestine — no shame and f— your glares #ISupportGaza #FreePalestine.”

However, on Sunday Cherry issued an apology noting that those tweets do not “do not support” his current political views.

“Past social media posts from when I was younger do not reflect my current views. Period. I support this Administration’s agenda – and will continue my communications work focused on our climate and environmental policies,” he wrote

The White House defended hiring Cherry in a statement to Fox News Digital with White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates noting, “We’re very proud to have Tyler on the team.”
