Buttigieg Dismisses Trump’s ‘Alfred E. Neuman’ Comment, Mad Magazine Mocks His Response

Mayor Pete Buttigieg was asked last night for his reaction to President Donald Trump mockingly referring to him as “Alfred E. Neuman,” the famous face of Mad Magazine.

Buttigieg largely dismissed it in response:

“I’ll be honest, I had to Google that, I guess it’s a generational thing. I didn’t get the reference. It’s kind of funny, I guess, but he’s also the President of the United States. And I’m surprised he’s not spending more time trying to salvage this China deal.”

Trump coming up with nicknames for his political rivals should come as zero surprise to anyone after “Low-Energy Jeb,” “Crooked Hillary,” “Crazy Bernie,” “Sleepy Joe,” etc. (There is a lengthy Wikipedia page detailing the list of nicknames Trump has come up with over the past few years, and a February AP piece on the campaign reported “Inside the West Wing and in conversations with outside allies, Trump has been workshopping other attempts to imprint his new adversaries with lasting labels.”)

Meanwhile, Mad Magazine had some fun with Buttigieg’s response:
