Trevor Noah Roasts Kanye West’s Name Change: ‘If I Had Gone Super-MAGA … I Also Would Want to Distance Myself from Myself’

Trevor Noah roasted former “super-MAGA” fan Kanye West for changing his name to Ye.

Noah pointed to West’s name change on Tuesday’s edition of The Daily Show, telling viewers that the “iconic rapper, fashion designer, and self-appointed youth pastor made a big announcement: He is Kanye no more.”

“And I’ll be honest, I get why he changed it,” said Noah. “I mean, if I had gone super MAGA like he did last year, I also would want to distance myself from myself.”

The host went on to joke about the benefits of having a two letter name, such as the time and effort one would save when they have to plug their name into the Apple TV.

West, however, did not seem to consider the Apple TV angle, and said that he changed his name for “personal reasons,” including the fact that he “believes that ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible.”

“OK, first of all, I think it’s safe to assume that anything Kanye does is for personal reasons,” Noah said. “This man has never uttered the words, ‘Let’s go with whatever’s easier for everyone.’”

Noah went on to note that someone could just count to see what the most common word in the Bible really is, and according to the host, “‘ye’ is not remotely the most common word in the Bible.”

“I joke about Kanye all the time but this is one instance I am on his side,” Noah said, adding, “Changing his name might be the least weird thing he’s ever done. I mean, think about it. Why should someone else get to choose the thing you’re called?”
