Chris Matthews Shreds Democrats for ‘Snobbery and Attitude’ Driving Working-Class and Young Voters Away

Cable news veteran Chris Matthews returned to MSNBC on Wednesday and blasted Democrats for being smug elitists who have lost their appeal to working-class Americans and non-college-educated young voters.

Instead, those Americans gravitated towards President Donald Trump, Matthews said during his appearance on Katy Tur Reports.

“The people that didn’t go to college are voting for Trump. Why? Because the snobbery and attitude of Democratic politicians,” Matthews said.

He then pronounced it “as we say in Philly,” as “atty-tude,” to drive his point home with a smirk.

Host Katy Tur, a moment earlier, had asked Matthews for his take on how Dems can win over those voters.

“How does the Democratic Party, which is trying to talk to working-class people again, but are all, you know, highly-educated and live in urban places, how do they bridge that divide?” Tur asked.

Some cheeky back-and-forth ensued, with Matthews jumping in before Tur finished and asking, “Can I answer that question?”

“Yeah, of course you can,” Tur told him, before chuckling and saying, “This is my show.”

Matthews then gave his diagnosis. He admitted he did not have the “whole answer,” but he gave some kudos to Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) for removing the requirement that state officials have a four-year degree when he first took office in 2023.

“That’s the first step you can make and say, ‘We’re all running for, we’re all seeking office, here. It isn’t just for college grads.’ And I think there’s a lot to that,” Matthews said.

Trump won 56% of voters without a college degree in 2024, which was up from 51% in 2020. His slice of the youth vote jumped 10 points in 2024 to 46%, while ex-Vice President Kamala Harris (D) won 52% of voters between 18-29.
