CNN’s Abby Phillip Blasts Obama For Not Giving Trump Credit for Israel-Hamas Deal: ‘Acknowledge the President Who Brokered It’
CNN’s Abby Phillip called out former President Barack Obama for conspicuously failing to mention that President Donald Trump brokered a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, saying Obama should have probably given the commander-in-chief credit if he is going to bother posting about the deal at all.
Phillip shared her thoughts on CNN’s Table for Five on Saturday morning.
“Honestly, it’s not unfair to say, if President Obama is going to write a whole post about a peace deal, maybe he should acknowledge the president who brokered it,” she said.
Her comment comes two days after Obama posted on X, saying, “we should all be encouraged and relieved that an end to the conflict is within sight.” His post did not mention Trump, who had announced a day before that a deal had been reached between Israel and Hamas that will have 48 hostages held in Gaza returned on Monday. Out of the 48 hostages remaining, 20 are believed to be alive.
Philip, a moment before, pointed out that Donald Trump Jr. had criticized Obama for not giving his father any credit. The CNN anchor said she understood why Trump Jr. and “a lot of people in MAGA” would be irritated by Obama’s post.
Jamal Simmons, the former communications director for former Vice President Kamala Harris, agreed with Phillip, saying, “If Donald Trump gets a peace deal, he deserves the credit.”
But he then said the “next step” is also critical, which he argued is “some sort of self-determination for the people who live in Gaza” and “more security for the people who live in Israel.”
Their comments come a more than two years after Hamas terrorists broke into Israel and killed 1,200 people and took hundreds of hostages.
While Obama may not have been in the mood to give Trump credit, hundreds of thousands of people in Tel Aviv on Saturday shared their appreciation for the president by breaking into chants of “Thank you, Trump!” during a rally.
