‘Alexa, What is Union-Busting?’ John Oliver Hilariously Derails Jimmy Fallon Alexa Segment with Pointed Questions About Amazon Workers
John Oliver joined Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show this week, and they played a round of “Hey Robot” with an Amazon Echo.
In the recurring segment, Fallon and his celebrity guest try getting Alexa to say a certain word by asking it the right question. Previous segments have featured Will Arnett and John Mulaney.
The first word Oliver and Fallon tried to get Alexa to say was “leprechaun.” Fallon won that round, asking, “What is the mascot for Notre Dame Fighting Irish?”
The next round — “Liverpool” — went to Fallon as well, after Oliver tried asking, “What is the greatest football team in the history of the sport?”
Oliver roasted Alexa a bit and said, “Speak from your heart, Alexa. Your rotten heart.”
Fallon, doubled over with laughter, remarked, “This is clearly not a commercial for this.”
And then Oliver went ahead and derailed the segment with some rather pointed questions that highlighted the unionizing Amazon workers.
“Alexa, how bad are Amazon working conditions?” he asked. (Oliver previously covered the subject in a 2019 segment.)
As Fallon tried to move on, Oliver attempted another question: “Alexa, what is union-busting?”
