Get Hyped for Tonight’s Blockbuster NYC Mayor Debate With This Ode to Curtis Sliwa By the ‘Naked Cowboy’

New York City mayoral candidates Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa are set to hit the debate stage on Thursday evening and what better way to prepare than watching the “Naked Cowboy’s” tribute to the race’s lagging Republican.
Mamdani, Cuomo, and Sliwa will meet at 7 p.m. EST for the first of two election debates at WNBC studios. Mamdani, a state assemblyman and Democrat, has a significant lead on his opponents. The self-described Democratic socialist is leading by double digits in most major polls. A collection from The New York Times shows his best lead going into the debate is from Zenith Research/Verasight where he leads by 26% and his worst lead is 8% from American Pulse Research & Polling.
Cuomo and Sliwa are battling it out for second, though Cuomo is consistently leading Sliwa by double digits. In a Quinnipiac University poll, Cuomo is leading Sliwa 33% to 15%. Sliwa is struggling to crack 20% in most polls. Both candidates are looking for Thursday’s debate to give them a boost to compete with Mamdani.
Anywa, back to that cowboy. Sliwa has the support of one major New Yorker, Robert John Burck aka The Naked Cowboy. Known for making his name by playing his guitar and performing in practically no clothes and a cowboy hat in Times Square, Burck is a public supporter of President Donald Trump.
Burck endorsed Sliwa back in July and performed a song praising the Guardian Angels founder and slamming Mamdani as a “left wing lunatic.”

An endorsement from the Naked Cowboy failed to push Sliwa over the top back in 2021 when Burck also endorsed him with a different song.
