John Oliver Roasts Trump for Flying to Florida, Eating Omelet After Declaring National Emergency

On Sunday, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver returned to HBO and the host wasted no time before talking about all that he missed in the last three months.

After noting everyone is now running for president in America and quipping Washington Post owner and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos told everyone to look out for a “dick pic,”  Oliver reminded all of President Donald Trump‘s awkward conversation with a little girl on Christmas Eve where he told the 7-year-old that believing in Santa at that age was “marginal.”

“Yep, that’s the president of the United States ruining Santa for a child on December 24th, which is actually perfectly on-brand. Because if there’s one thing Trump is good at, it’s fucking up children forever.”

He then turned to the talk that has dominated the news cycle in the past months — Trump’s attempt to get a border wall.

“There is zero actual emergency at the border right now,” Oliver said before noting Trump admitted as such in his own announcement when the president — in process of declaring a national emergency, said this: “I could do the wall over a longer period of time. I didn’t need to do this. But I’d rather do it much faster.”

Oliver then pointed out that it is not like Trump is acting like it an emergency either, especially since he left DC for Florida where he went to an omelet bar.

“[Trump] responded to this newly declared emergency by, just hours later, flying off to Florida for the weekend, where he’s apparently been photographed waiting at an omelet bar,” Oliver said.  “You know, the kind of thing you do when America is in crisis.”

The omelet bar was at Trump’s golf club.
